300 Million?

Fucking rediculous.. We need a fucking Team who can play football, not an extra 8 thousand empty seats.

It's not OUR money it's from private finance.

could well be a loan tbh. sounds like fat fred is claiming credit for this so i'm not sure if it is connected to the takeover talk...

I thought we were getting the stadium expansion in return for giving the developers the ground for the hotel and apartments? It doesn't seem to be too clear yet where the money is coming from.

As for not filling 52k so why extend to 60k, thats a bit short sighted. As to why bother extending and just do the hotel etc, it could be getting done in the expense of the hotel etc (and casino?) as part of the deal. Plus, easier to do that now when other building works going on that a totally independant project at any other time.

Ive not looked into the funding, but its seems that the hotel and conference centre will produce new streams of revenue, not sure if that will fund it short term (or that could go directly back to the club), could be the sale of the apartments (like any other building project, self funding if you can guarantee the sale/price). but more so, Id think it would be connected to any casino as that would be ran by a.n.other who likely have to pay something to the club for operating/location etc.

All in all, I think its a good step. however, I agree its poor timing of the announcement naturally making people sceptical. [/businesshead]

So this is now looking a distinct possibility???? How bloody stupid does the East Stand look???

sjp2004l.jpg

On a related note, I can't imagine too many people are going to want to buy a 'luxury apartment' which is bolted onto a football stadium. Can you imagine the noise levels on match days???? :o

What, non existant? ;)

That ground looks as ridiculous as I imagined.

Looks better than it does now, and not too dissimilar to Celtic Park but on a larger scale.

I think it looks good actually. The whole leazes argument is daft anyway cos as soon as you step out of the front door you have a giant concrete wall in front of you. Making it a bit taller isnt going to make any difference. Id be interested in what designs they could come up with if they built up that side of the ground but incorporated some kind of glass wall into it to let the sunlight through. Maybe just use the space above the east stand for some kind of futuristic video wall showing replayes etc :nufc:

Not that i think we should be extending the ground unless somehow this genuinely will cost us nothing down the line.

But if it happens you'd just hope, for once, that Fat Fred could do something decent (and intelligent) and offer the extra seats match to match very cheap (and i mean seriously cheap) to kids and families as firstly it would mean a less epmty St. James and secondly we might have a chance at building the next generation of fans (if the football doesn't totally put them off for good!)

But i don't imagine he'll do this at all!

I'd be canny pissed off if I forked out for a season ticket only to find out that there were 8,000 seats going cheap for every home game tbh.

I agree, I like it. Re: the Leazes Terrace/East Stand thing, the depth rather than the height of the stand is the main issue.

I like it too. Why people think football stadiums should be symmetrical beats me (I like SJP as it is as well).

However, the Gallowgate wont look like that as there will be the hotel and conference centre all lumped on at the back?

Oh, and the pic looks like the ground is full - must be playing Man U then!!

It was nearly full on Saturday, which I find incredible.

C. Cacky home defeat....

oh...

:o

Tbh, C. is all the more reason not to announce it when they did. Even waiting a few days wouldn't have been a bad idea. You're right though I suppose, that's what people are really pissed off about.

I had the pleasure of being in Washington yesterday and I saw the front page of the Chronicle....I just laughed.....It was like PR for beginners by Col Tom Parker.:o

would anyone be arsed about a stadium name change if it brought in a shitload of extra cash? everyone will carry on calling it st james anyway

I'd rather not change the name but I suppose it would be like now with the Leazes / Gallowgate ends.
