Real Madrid have sacked coach Fabio Capello, 11 days after he led the Spanish giants to their first league title since 2003.

The 61-year-old still had two years to run on his contract at the Bernabeu but was criticised for his tactics.

Capello also won the Primera Liga title with Real in 1996-97 during his first spell at the club. More to follow.

wenger or mourinho?

Mourinho's got youth and a temper on his side, but I reckon Wenger has a little of the Ninja about him, so I'd go for the Frenchman in the 4th round

Coleman named Real Sociedad boss

Coleman has been out of work since April when Fulham sacked him

Chris Coleman has been appointed the new manager of Spanish second division outfit Real Sociedad.

The 37-year-old Welshman will be unveiled by the Basque side in the next few days after his appointment by club president Maria De La Pena.

Coleman is thought to have been recommended to De La Pena and Sociedad by their former manager John Toshack.

Sociedad were relegated from La Liga last season for the first time in their history, finishing 19th out of 20.

De La Pena said that Coleman's contract would be "objective-based", with the "main aim" of immediately restoring the club's top-flight status.

The club's former coach Salva Iriarte will work alongside Coleman after being given the post of sporting director.

The move is subject to the new board being ratified on Saturday.

Schuster sounds like a done deal. Been touted for months. Guilleme was on SSN at lunch saying that Schuster has been acting like a Madrid manager for the last 4 months-stirring things up with Barca and commenting on players Real Madrid have been linked with.

As Isegrim says, worst kept secret.

Bobby was saying in his autobiography(as picked up by journo Graham Hunter today) that Barca beat a team 6 or 7-1 in the Camp Nou and the headline the next day was "7 Goals. No football." He was slated for not playing with enough flair. That season they lost the league by a point to Capello's Real Madrid. 10 years ago.

That amazes me... What could Coleman possibly do in Spain???

And as for Capello... I am hoping Wenger gets the job. With Henry and Wenger gone, Arsenal will be in the decline allowing for someone (anyone) else to move into that fourth spot

It looks like Toshack is still highly respected by Sociedad and his recommendation obviously carries a lot of weight. Coleman never did much with Fulham IMO.

definitely going to be Schuster at Real Madrid. He, Calderon and Mijatovic have been planning transfer targets for ages and Schuster has a pre contract agreement that if Madrid break they have to pay him €1million.

coleman didn't do a bad job at fulham, considering he had steed malbranque not play for him (their best player at the time) for half a season.

bit thick mind, wasn't it his wife who bugged his car, cos she thought he was cheating on her.
