To bid 4.5million if reports on SSN are correct. I wouldn't want to see him go to be honest but once the ££ are waved in Fat Mike's face i wouldn't feel confident.

Thoughts?

why would we sell for a miserable £ 4.5 mm ??

If he looks any good we'll be able to get £ 10 mm at Christmas

I was thinking that too but do you really think he is worth more than 4.5million? If they were to offer around 6-7million then i'd start worrying.

The club could well sell, even taking away our owners stupidity and greed it could be a sensible move. Theres a good chance that come October Carroll will be unavailable for a while, get rid now and you've removed that worry.

Whenever a player goes down there are calls for them to be sacked, if hes not our player then hes not our problem.

I can see the logic in that view, I may not agree with it but it makes sense to reduce the risk.

They would have to make getting a striker or two an absolute priority if this happens. It really should go without saying, but this is Newcastle United we're talking about.

I can't help but think this will be Ashley's logic:

Carroll = Striker = make 4.5 Million.

Kris Boyd = Striker = buy on a free.

Profit = 4.5 Million.

Sign of the times when your thinking of selling your best players to Bham and Stoke for under 5m.

Duno why theres any talk of him leaving really I can only assume its cos theres very little happening incoming transfer wise. Hes on pretty low wages compared to some and will definately be here come august imo.

Regarding his court case I think peasepud refered to him going down. I'd imagine if this was likely he would have been advised to plead guilty and get a suspended sentance or lesser term tham plead not guilty and risk being out for a larger period in the prem aswell.

Or Leon Best = Striker = already here...woohooo! no additional wages.

In fairness to FMA he's only sold players that either wanted to go or that the club didn't want.

Carroll wants to stay, he wants a new deal, I can't see him going anywhere other than whereever he ends up doing community service.

You can only sell players that want to go. I'm sure he'd have loved to have sold a few more players but they were unwilling to give up their lucrative contracts (which he gave them).

Andy Carroll in talks over new NUFC contract

Jun 3 2010

by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United are set to show their support for striker Andy Carroll by reviewing his current contract with the Magpies.

Carroll is now facing another four months of uncertainty after his court appearance yesterday ended with a not guilty plea to an assault charge.

And he woke up this morning to fresh national newspaper headlines linking him with Birmingham City and long-term admirers Stoke City.

The Geordie ace told the Chronicle on May 11 he was in it for the long haul with the team he supports and was only interested in staying in Toon with his young family.

And news that Birmingham are interested in taking him to the less- than-glamorous surroundings of the 30,000 capacity St Andrews is unlikely to scratch the surface for the Gateshead lad – despite the Blues’ respectable season under Alex McLeish last term.

Carroll’s current contract ends in 2013, but Chris Hughton is keen to build his team around the highly-rated striker and has already hinted strongly that the Toon star is a genuine contender to don the legendary No 9 shirt next season.

Carroll is also a good advert for the policy that the Mags are trying to promote after being at Newcastle since the age of 10, breaking on to the first team stage at St James’ Park and becoming one of United’s most marketable players following last season’s haul of 19 goals.

A source close to Carroll told the Chronicle: “I think it’s quite clear where Andy’s heart is, and that he doesn’t want to be anywhere else, especially with Newcastle going back to the Premier League.

“There have been discussions about his future, and for him it’s about how long he can stay at St James’ more than anything else.”

Hughton will not even entertain the idea of losing his big striker and has indicated there will be no departures this summer.

He said: “Andy is a big player for us now and in the future.

“He’s very excited about being a Premier League player with Newcastle next season.”

Meanwhile, reports in Norway claim United remain in the hunt for teenage goal machine Marcus Pedersen.

However, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton, Everton, Fulham, West Brom, Heerenveen, FC Twente, Hamburg, Auxerre and Anderlecht are also interested in the Strømsgodset star.

I'm sure there are a few that he'd have had out the door earlier, it doesn't change the fact all of the players who have left either clearly wanted out (Given, Zog, Milner, Martins, Bassong, Beye), or who the club were happy to be shot of (Geremi, Owen, Cacapa, Viduka) because they routinely underperformed.

If Carroll wants to stay (as today's Chron states) then there is no precedent under FMA to suggest he will be sold.
