He's not even arrogant. I've met him loads of times, last time I spoke to him was just before New Year last year, so polite chatted and said he recognised me as I've spoken to him loads of times. On face value he's an absolute gentleman, anyone would think we're talking about someone like Ashley Cole the way this threads going. There are no heroes in the Premiership now, Peter Beardsley was and is a true hero to people in my age group, working class lad who came good who in my view is still humble. First time I saw Peter in person was Exhibition Park was just after the WC in 86, was with me dad and we bought his book "Proud to Be A Geordie", and he patted me on the head and said he was going no where the next season, and he kept his promise, he didn't leave till the season after. Love the man me like, people who moaned about his swearing at the U18s, I played youth football from the age of 7 years of age and by 13 and 14 was common for managers to swear at you, the kids use more industrial language than the manager, and to see his name dragged through the mud by clueless people does my head in. I don't like the way he's been pro-Ashley but he's basically helping out for a couple of days when there's no one else to do the job. Nothing wrong with that. I think hes a great bloke in person, chatty, friendly and Id never forget him as a player but thats as far as the hero worship goes, nowadays hes generally regarded as a backstabbing fucker who would sell his own granny to move up the chain. As I said in the other thread, he and Hughton didnt get on because he believed he had a divine right to be his Number 2. He was given the reserves job without CH having any say in it.
