manc-mag 0
Haven't been on my computer for a while since I accidentally pressed the overwrite key in 2012, but got this awful news from Cath and (like so many others, clearly) felt compelled to come on and express my sadness. I met Jon a couple of times in real life and enjoyed many hours of his stuff online. A lovely bloke and a great poster. Typically lovely and appropriate thought with the tribute Cath-I would be very happy indeed to contribute. Condolences to his family. RIP Jon
The Mighty Hog 154
Fuck, I thought this was just a birthday thread. He was always a good laugh way back on the older boards, he started to drift away from this place but would always pop back now and again. Seemed daft as a brush but harmless with it. Such a shame. Geordie Boyo 1
Rip jon. Don't think I had the pleasure in meeting the fella, but certainly was a poster I valued on here. Life is far too short.

Craig 24
I emailed the lads at NUFC.COM - they've put a tribute to Jon on their site. Thanks to Niall and Biffa - I'm sure his family will be really touched. Edited July 22, 2014 by Craig

smudger 0
Haven't been on here for ages but found out the news about Jon through NUFC.com this morning. Knew Jon personally. Travelled to the Marseille match with him back in 2004. Really nice lad who was easy to get on with. Lost touch shortly after that bar a few messages. RIP mate.
Alex 5,956
It's difficult to know what to write but I just wanted to say how saddened and shocked I am by this news. I heard about this yesterday but I still feel empty inside when I think about it. I met Jon on a number of occasions and he was a genuinely nice lad but, just as importantly, he was someone who didn't take himself seriously and who you could have a laugh with. This was obvious to anyone who encountered him either in person or on here (not to mention on Newcastle-Online where I know he also had many friends). Goodbye, Jon. Baggio 0
Shocking news this, condolences to his family and partner. When you think about the community that has built up with Newcastle supporters online he is someone that has always been there since as far back as I can remember. There was never anything malicious about him or said in spite and it made him one of the most endearing personalities on both here and Newcastle-Online. A definite glass half full type of guy who will be missed for sure. RIP Jon. Edited July 22, 2014 by Baggio
Craig 24
Meant 100% sincerely but maybe this topic should have have had the sub-heading 'Yes, Gemmill......'

ClubSpinDoctor 0
I knew it wasn't a birthday thread as soon as it hit two pages, you're all alright for a whip round now and then but tight bastards when it comes to birthdays!
catmag 127
Meant 100% sincerely but maybe this topic should have have had the sub-heading 'Yes, Gemmill......' I thought about that when I made the thread but it didn't feel appropriate at the time. Now that most people know it feels like the right thing to do.
maggiespaws 0
Thanks to Craig passing this info to the NUFC.com guys, I've finally heard about this too. Shocked is an understatement. I think I only met him once, at pre-match drinks in the Trent. As a fellow OOT, places like Toontastic are really important to help keep up with whats going on and I always feel a bit of an affection towards fellow OOT's as it's hard sometimes to feel part of it all when you aren't living in Newcastle any more. I was never big friends with him, nor did I have any major contact with him, but he was someone who seemed a decent lad with a bit of craic. I echo the sentiments that have been mentioned thus far, especially those that (like me) have come out of the woodwork a bit just to pass comment. Terrible news for someone so young. Cath, if you've not sorted the wreath or whatever yet, I'd be happy to make a donation too. Is it worth using some of the money and offering to donate the rest to a charity of his Mam's choice? Perhaps related to alcohol or anxiety related issues?
