Obvious point but you can’t expect fast bowlers to be able to bowl consistently fast with so little rest after their efforts yesterday. The weather has been like a warm summer’s day in England too so you can only expect the weather to exacerbate the issue for the bowlers as the tour goes on if England can’t find a way to bat long. There’s only 7 of them and 5 have played here. So the pace rotation options aren’t that great. Stokes will need to need to play every match when fit too as he’s so essential from a balance point of view as well as being the skipper. He’ll only be rested (maybe) if it’s a dead rubber. So frustrating as you could see it coming a mile off and such a massive opportunity wasted here with giving away cheap wickets

yup. No surprise at all that their pace was down

They'll lose the rest too. But during this  afternoon's session Bazball was murdered by self inflicted blows. It's fucking dead now. No chance of a re boot this tour. Crawley has been out for single figures in 41% of his Test innings

Yes Ben, our wafters and swipers definitely seemed to have success. (Fuck me)

I think it was PL on here who said Bazball was like a cult although I’ve seen a few journalists say that too. Usually foreign ones taking the piss IIRC

And there's no other openers in the squad, I accept it's debateable that Gloomies fave is in fact an opener.

Well that was the most disappointing and pathetic afternoon of cricket after a reasonable morning.

The bowlers got us a decent total and then proceeded to bowl appallingly. I acknowledge they needed more rest but even if pace was down they could have used line and length.

Head was amazing so you need to get him out early. You give him chin music early not when he's in.

They should've used Root earlier as well. It may not have worked but he often gets a wicket and then you revert to pace. Even if he gets thrashed all over at least you've tried.

I I was actually quite happy it was over today. Would've been a nightmare going in for half an hour. Should get refunds. 🙂

Sat next to a mackem family yesterday. Seemed nice enough and although one was wearing his sunderland shirt I can confirm I didn't get windmilled or stabbed with a plastic sword, so the standing ovation was for Head not me getting punished.

Seriously had a good chat about the relative merits of the team and the older man (probably about my age 🙁) was worried about losing their Afcon players before the derby.

Bad day when that's your highlight. 🙂

Another couple of days and not feeling much better.

Brook is starting to really piss me off. Couldn't be bothered with the warm-up game because "he only gets up for big games" and then throws away his wicket. Pure arrogance.

And he's the vice captain! Wanker.

Immense talent, zero application, makes you wonder if he ever works at his game, Root/Stokes are notorious for working on their game but I suspect Brook just relies on his god given gifts and his attitude/demeanor sucks.

When he comes off he's frighteningly/destructively good but the Aussie bowlers will get him worked out, if they haven't already, bowl back of a length outside off or in-line short with legside boundary fielders and you're sorted, he can't resist it.

I see that Darren Lehman is complaining about English fans booing Smith.

While I am not that keen on booing players unless they are cheating in the moment, this is the man who called on all Aussies to do the same to Stuart Broad for not walking so he would go home crying to mummy.

Fat demented twat.

aggers is spot on here - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cq604ngrengo

i don't get the obsession with "identity" in modern sport and it seems to have spilled over into cricket from football.

it's all very well having a style of play but refusing to alter or adapt it when it isn't working reminds me a bit of jeremy corbyn's labour party. we will stick to out principles - even if it leads to a humiliating defeat, damn it!

Was going to post. Absolutely spot on. There was a lot of talk about them not understanding the bounce in Australia and the way to counter it.

In a way I see the sense in not playing in Canberra. The pitch will be completely different to Brisbane so they are better off in Brisbane nets.

However if they're all still getting out doing the same thing I can see wholesale changes to the whole set up after the tour.

I didn't expect them to win in Perth. It's the 4th time I've seen them play and they've lost each time but I think this was there best chance for a couple of generations. At lunch on day 2 even more so. To throw it away was unforgivable.

And yes, I might be the curse by going each time but I'm clearly not the only one and most of those got at least to day 4.

Wood doubtful for the day/night test 🙄

I thought he was definitely out (as per the bbc). Same knee as was operated on so I can’t see how they risk him.

Just heard there were concerns about his knee, but looking at beeb, aye he'll be out.

Could be the end of him sadly, have to be major questions about his chances of ever staying fit. Only bowled 11 overs in the first test (first capitulation more like) that wouldn't be considered a heavy load for two sessions never mind over two days !!!

pope, brook and stokes let us down again. duckett and smith got good balls. brainless by stokes to chase a tight run after he did all the hard work to get set.

at least root has assessed the conditions and is batting sensibly. as long as he stays around, there is still hope of posting something half decent. he goes and it reckon we'll collapse to under 250.

the really annoying thing about this batting performance is, starc aside, it's a pretty average aussie attack.
