...has been getting a fair bit of media attention lately.

I used to think he was a pecker but I've taken to watching his Trews youtube videos recently and have to say it's refreshing to hear a passionate voice on the left, finally. He's highly entertaining and funny. Although he often comes across as self indulgent and narcissistic, I have to salute his efforts to raise issues that don't get a lot of play in mainstream media.

What do you make of him?

Been tempted to start a thread on him for a few weeks. Classic Mi6 reality testing lightning rod. Tried to play the Hollywood thing by-the-book inc a celebrity marriage but I suspect he got bored there as LA is really boring unless you are A list. Fallen back into something of a grey area...There's something fishy about him mind.

Makes some good socialist points from on top of his ivory tower, rumored to have foundations of 15million big ones, "man of the people" telling teenagers not to bother voting, as if the millions who gave their lives in the 20th century for the right to have things like democracy never really existed at all....

I do like his stand up though, so I think he should stick to fucking anything that moves and making people laugh at his jokes instead of cynically trying to flog o level Marxism to those gullible enough to fall for it, who I expect are the legions of beautiful women he is fucking, am not jealous or anything me like, nope.... :glare:

I like what he's aiming for, I don't like how he gets his message across and I think some of his ideas are too unrealistic.

Quite verbose too.

I'm a quarter of the way through his new book. It's good. Makes a load of good points and is funny.

Re the point above about people dying for democracy, he addresses that in the book by saying what they died for was freedom and not the utterly fucked up system that we have in place today, and if the likes of Emily Davison was alive today she wouldn't be telling people to vote, she'd be telling them to riot. Which it's hard to argue with.

I like him. He makes a lot of good points and has been involved in some good activism recently.

I think he's stuck in purgatory a bit right now though. It's clear he wants to do something revolutionary (well, duh, title of the book and all that) but it's not clear that he's figured out either what he wants to do or how he wants to achieve it. But I like his intentions.

A fair point, the sufferergettes weren't to know that the freedom and democracy they and the lads from the Somme won by sacrificing their generation would be sold to Wall Street and Canary Wharf by their children in the 80s...

People should vote though, it's irresponsible to say otherwise iyam. Democracy will get an independent Scotland sooner rather than later and nobody had to die for it.

I used Lydon cause him and Brand are the same trope the Matrix churns out every cycle. Nice to see the before and after. No doubt Brand will be doing cook books in a few years.

The funniest thing about Brand is that he realises that he has enough traction to turn his non-revolution into a career choice.

Lydon anti-christ.

Brand-Christ complex.

Drugs. Check.

Both working class.

Both self-taught.

Both failed to break America.

Both Magpie talented but not good at one thing.

Although I suspect Lydon's standup would be more sardonic.

Media lovies.

Manufactured anger.

etc........
