Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

It’s not the lino’s fault because it’s the rules that play should be allowed to continue but it’s fucking ridiculous when someone is so clearly offside in the build up. You felt it was only a matter of time before a player got a serious injury in a situation like that

I don't blame the rule, just as much chance of a freak injury like that in any phase of play, players clatter posts fairly often, amazing there's not more bad ones tbh.

Just one of those things sadly.

Yeah I don’t blame the lino, she was simple applying the rules.

Fucking stupid rule though. Don’t see hrs benefit aside from winding people up.

The benefit is fewer attacks are stopped incorrectly. Even with the rule in place, you still see linesman occasionally raise their flag incorrectly or raise their flag at the end of the passage of play and be wrong.

There was an offside given against Coventry in the second half against the tramps last night that was onside by about 7 yards.  When you look at decisions like that it's understandable why this rule is in place.  As Toonpack says players are at least as likely to get injured from any other phase of play.  I guess it just looks bad when you see there was actually no need for the player to be there.

It isn’t ribs. He’s obviously perforated or torn something when he’s collided with the goal. Possibly bowel/spleen/liver and may have had internal bleeding since. It’s normal to keep someone under anaesthetic in critical care after emergency abdominal surgery and it tends to be for the first 24hrs and then they’ll wake him. It’ll be a long recovery though. Wishing him the best.

Ruptured intestine. They’re also saying he’s being kept asleep after the first stage of surgery. They normally do this when the abdomen can’t be closed due to swelling etc and therefore patient is kept asleep as they wouldn’t be able to tolerate the pain when conscious. This is really, really nasty 🙁

I had a raptured intestine ten years ago with peritonitis, xL (lethality rate) is more than 1 in 5. Went to hospital thinking it’s just an inflammation of the appendix. Needed to have a life saving operation and made a lot of use of the ability to control the pain killing infusion myself. An induced coma sounds a good idea tbh.

Aye, if we’re apportioning blame here then the post needs to take a long hard look at itself.

Craig’s next idea to protect footballers:

I've struggled to follow this a bit but.. is the argument here that the offside ruling is to blame because a player ran into a goalpost, on the basis that had the whistle gone, that never would have happened? Surely the same thing would have happened if he was onside as well, meaning that the offside call is fairly irrelevant. What am I missing?

Maybe you’re confused on who was offside? The offside player was Elanga in the build up not the one who hurt himself going for a cross.

Through ball from Forests own half for Elanga who was offside by about 3 yards. Elanga runs the ball down field and crosses. Forest lad knackers himself on the goalpost. Then the flag goes up for Elanga being offside which was obvious from the get go.

It was an obvious offside but the current rules are the rules so the lino isn't to blame. More importantly to me, a direct rival is now a bit weaker and therefore increases our chances of CL qualification.
