Looks like Lineker is getting sacked by the BBC. He now won't do the World Cup next year. He accidentally shared a message about Gaza with a rat on it. He deleted it pretty quickly, but I think the BBC has probably been desperate for another slip up so they can do the bidding of the right wing press who fucking hate him.

"Mutual consent" is the patter but if you listen to his podcast he was definitely well up for the world cup.

i mean, the thing he shared was pretty offensive by all accounts, using the rat trope for jews. i like lineker. he's seems like a good boke. he's highly critical of Israel - and that's fine - i also don't think he is an antisemite but you'd expect him to be more conscientious about what he shares after the last social media storm he was involved in.

I went into this situation fully expecting to be opposed to the outcome that has been landed on, but having viewed the video, that rat emoji is really prominent. So there's no way he didn't see it - and while I don't believe for a second that he shared it knowing the implications of it (I didn't know that a rat is symbolically attached to antisemitic tropes either), I do think that the prominence of said emoji would have at least given me pause before I shared it. The counter argument is that he could have looked at it and assumed the rat was aimed at the Israeli government or whatever, and fine, that's a fair argument - but in the end if this was some other far right dog whistle from some other personality, we'd be calling for blood.

From the BBC's point of view it makes total sense to take the position they have because the guy is basically out of the door anyway. So for all I should be one of the people wound up about this, I'm not. He should be way more careful in what he's sharing, and additionally, the BBC gains nothing from going to bat for him here.

I haven’t seen the video but wasn’t it just a small rat logo on the screen? It’s easy to miss but when you’ve got his profile you need to carefully vet everything you share.

I agree with that, he's done something daft in this instance, and the BBC must be delighted to have him out of the way now.

But well done to him for speaking out on this issue generally; a 100 people a day have been murdered every single day for over a year and a half and most of his fellow celebrities havent let out as much as a squeak. (pun not intended)

Honestly the Premier League need to fuck off. The stuff they're letting Chelsea and others get away with and basically zeroing in on a team that doesn't have enough friends among the other 19 to vote their way out of a problem.

As said in the other thread, football gets away with murder especially the heavily weighted modern rules in place and selective punishments, they can fuck right off tbh. (And as also stated, the media will become the three monkeys as it benefits them to keep the status quo).

It was up alongside the accompanying text, basically front and centre. I expected it to be like, buried in the video or something but there's no way you could read the text and not see it.

I think he just thought nothing of it tbh.

Did they vote against the proposed PSR and APT changes? Turkeys and Christmas.
