I couldn't give a shit about England but Burn's too old to get a debut cap, pleased for him but it doesn't make sense, Jordan Henderson is a joke.

It'll personally be amazing for him to get a cap. All that hard work he has put in after starting from the bottom would have paid off.

The sun etc will be digging out the old German puns if it doesn't go swimmingly early on especially with the Burn and Henderson call ups, (don't know the rest).

Not sure there is much point in calling up a 33 year old with no international experience but I would love for BDB to get a cap.

Joselu got a call up for Spain, scored goals and helped them win the Euros.

I don't think there are many English centre backs playing at his level at the minute and since Tuchel loves three at the back he's probably comfortably the best option to cover LCB IMO. It makes a lot of sense to me, despite me thinking it's come about three years later than it should have done.

Our problem is we've overlooked players like Burn for decades and picked average youngsters from the 'big' clubs. This sort of shit is what the more successful nations have been doing for years - pick on form and adapt the system, don't pick players to fit a rigid system even if they are in shite form.

Rashford is a fucking mental one though. He's been a sub for Villa for the most part and don't get me started on Henderson

Is he Blyth’s first international player?

No snark at all there- I’m genuinely curious.

I’m genuinely pleased for him- seems like a thoroughly decent lad and I’m sure he’ll be popular with the squad.

David Fairhurst - another left footer. Won the cup with us and got a single cap:

The sponsor isn’t the phone company.

Tuchel asked the new caps for a quote from their family re. their call up.…

It's been bugging me for ages what Dan Burn's smile-grimace makes me think of, but I've finally worked it out - it's the end of this 'glory days of the internet' classic:

You're welcome. :good:

Love the bloke: club legend, England international, our best defender for the past couple of years.

But please, please, please: stop playing him at left back!

Lewis Hall has to come in while Tino is out. Botman and Thiaw could be our new first choice CB pairing. They’re certainly the future. Neither deserve to be dropped. It would also be incredibly harsh to drop Burn but rotate them instead - we have to stop shoehorning Burn in at left back.

Is Hall being eased back in to avoid a Botman type situation?

Oh and will we be happy with the ageing Trippa playing two games a week for the foreseeable?...

That's what Eddie had said when he wasn't in the squad for the Arse "we're managing his minutes", I would think that's all it is and is likely lead by Bunce's team.

Read a thing Waugh wrote week or so ago about the monitoring they do, even in training the laptops are out, down to "he's done enough sprints" or "he needs to do more sprints".

I hope that’s all it is. I’ve got a feeling he wants burn in the side, even if it means playing him out of position. I guess we’ll find out

If we can keep not shipping goals as we have been, in the main, and the attack continues to develop as it appears to be doing, he can play BDB as much as he likes for me.

That said, I don't buy this "he likes so and so in the team/favourites" talk, he'll pick what he believes is the best team to get a result match by match IMO. I do think Burn must be due a rest though.

On the Burn point, imagine he'll play at centre half this weekend with Thiaw or Schar. Both Botman and Thiaw have played 4 games in 10 days & Sunday would be 5 in 15. Burn had a rest against Bradford, T&B two didn’t.

The players and management will know if either are jaded to be fair but I'd be surprised if there wasn't changes at CB again.

Trips and Hall at full back in my opinion. Former isn't playing international football anymore, so his rest can come during then. Also only played a game and a half in the last 4.

he’s obviously a brilliant centre back but other teams target him at left back. It also puts pressure on the left winger to get back to help him defend. Gordon spent almost the entire match doing so against Arsenal. Burn at left back weakens our entire left side. He’s not a full back. Hall is a much better option. If he’s fit he has to start.

That being the important bit.

The other night USG had two fairly tall strikers too, made a bit of sense playing a tall fullback since they are known to be quite direct.

If Hall isn’t fit to start, fine. There really isn’t another option. I felt for him playing left back against Saka.

I would have preferred three at at the back in that case. He’s a good left sided centre back in a three. We played well against them with that set up last season
