It’s maybe fair to say he didn’t do enough to establish a body of work one way or another. But that in itself makes him seem like a bit of a fraud when he keeps taking a position that is in essence about the long term and doesn’t stay for long enough to be judged based on the tangible outcomes of his performance.

Yeah the whole point of this sort of job is to create long term football policy and procedures so that you don’t end up being like Man Utd with no long term vision ie sacking every useless bastard they appoint after 18 months and having to pay off all their staff but being lumbered with the eye wateringly expensive useless bastards that they’ve signed….

The idea of a sporting director or a DoF is that its meant to be a long term, continuity focussed job where you stay in position for a long time.

 

Instead he fucked us off after 18 months and then lasted 5 months at man u.

Its impossible to say that he did a good job at either because he wasn't around long enough to have done one, but by virtue of that I reckon its fair to say he did a bad job or a main facet of his position.

Fucked over Brighton and us and then got sacked by Jim Rat King. I assume his reputation has been torched by his own behaviour, but if I were the FA I would view him as a short term appointment

He’s got a very questionable record at the FA iirc. Wasn’t he embroiled in some scandal there previously? That’s along with Allardyce being his recommendation for the England job

The FA job will be much more low key for him. No one had heard of him when he last did the same role and it'll be the same again. With England the entire responsibility for the senior teams' performances belong to the managers so he can sit quietly being a rat in the background.

He was very involved in the carry on with that Mark Sampson, alleged wrongun manager of the womens team a few years back.  Can't be arsed to google the details but I'm going to say that Ashworth is a wrongun too

Nah, iirc he made a point of saying that transfers weren't his sole remit and he was at the 'centre of the wheel' connecting all departments.
