Gemmill 53716
Not impossible that this impacts our ability to retain some of our better players too btw. Agents that want a payday will be in their ears. Those contract talks with Isak will have to be handled by the (also departing) CEO now and wtf does he really care if discussions get difficult.

The thing we absolutely cannot do here, painful as it may be, is rush into another appointment. This has to be done properly, with some sort of structure in place to support the transfer activity across the window. But honestly there is no scenario now in which we have as good a window as we could have if not for this. It's feeling more and more like Howe is keeping the entire thing together here. I would suggest that it was not going in the direction Howe wanted and therefor could have been disasterous if he didnt go. 1

I think my point is not so much that Mitchell staying would have been better, more that the fact this entire fiasco happened now instead of months ago. Asleep at the wheel Mitchell may have been, but so was Eales, and frankly probably also the Saudis. Any decent executive board would have resolved this ages ago, not let it explode on day 1 of the summer period. So I'm comparing it against the hypothetical scenario in which they all did their jobs properly, not against him staying.
Monkeys Fist 46956
I’m assuming this months notice he’s working will consist of him handing the office keys to Nickson on day 1, then fucking off and doing a bit of gardening? Can’t imagine for a minute he’ll be involved in any dealings from here onwards.

Guardian writers review of the season across a bunch of categories. Literally the ONLY mentions we get are from Louise Taylor. Not even honourable mentions for Howe as best managers in lists that include Glasner, Nuno, and Pereira. Not a single one of our players gets mentioned. Their absolute commitment to writing us out of anything because we've got Saudi owners would be impressive if it wasn't so horribly petty.

The Saudi thing could be a part of it but I honestly just think they don't really care about us. Our fanbase doesn't seem to be as active with their sports sections as the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, etc. I'd not be surprised if their decisions are weighted against that. Rayvin 6670
Mind you, having read it, I think a significant milestone in our progress will be when Louise Taylor isn't giving her patronising lipservice to us I think I hate that more than if she just didn't bother.
Craig 7833
Just looking at the final table, a frustrating aspect is the number of games lost - 12 in total. It's only 3 losses less than we lost in the 'great escape' season. When we qualified for the CL 2 years ago, we only lost 5 that season. 7 extra points would have had us finishing 3rd, a point off 2nd place. NJS 4776
The five home losses to midtable teams plus the missed away wins at Everton and Palace haunt me. Even half of those turned around would have had us 2nd or 3rd. All of them and we'd have pushed the scouse cunts.

My main grief is how we lost most of the games, either because of stupidity or lack of effort. There were only very few games we lost just because the other team was better.
NJS 4776
I can forgive Bournemouth as they fucking destroyed us but the others were very winnable within the games.
Isegrim 10817
I am not too fussed about Mitchell tbh. I am pretty sure with Howe, Nickson and other people confident about what they are doing we can still manage to attract and sign players. The most important thing was qualifying for the CL. Without knowing anything about the reasons it looks like a person leaving his job just after a year without any achievements during a otherwise successful season probably just wasn’t the right one. Gemmill 53716
I'm happy we've finished where we are. We squeaked in to the CL on GD, and it should be clear to everyone involved in the hierarchy that we can't afford to try and do it that way every year. Obviously if we'd missed out, then those defeats come back to haunt you, but we've basically done the equivalent of landing exactly on the pass mark for our exam.

aimaad22 5093
Whether our summar plans have been affected or not is one thing, it's concerning that the executive situation at the club seems to be in turmoil for the second summer in a row especially now with a window as important as this one. Is anyone other than Howe actually doing their job here? It gives more credence to the idea that things are moving slower than they should at the top; stadium decision, new sponsorships etc. At this point PIF must be thinking if it's worth going for a relatively unknown DOF next given the last two big names have been utterly useless. Thanks for the Kelly deal though Paul.
