Surely Man Utd don't lose out on this for the sake of £6m. That would be an absolute embarrassment for them. Beyond which, does the lad even want to come?

More to the point, what are his wage demands?

That Ben Jacobs lad reckons that Man United have been quoted £64m by Leipzig for Sesko, which is at the limit of what they can afford, and if we came in with £70m it puts them in a tough spot, and potentially knocks them out of the race.

And how do I know this?

Because I'm working at the coalface of transfer window YouTube for ALL OF YOU, and this is a conversation that Mark fucking Goldbridge is reporting that he had with Ben Jacobs.

If we were getting Sesko, surely we would have put a bid in for him by now?

If we think Man United need to sell before they can buy, but that the player would prefer to go to Man United, then that's why we aren't making a bid. Cos he's not gonna come here until they rule themselves out, and we risk looking like cunts again if we show our hand now.

So I think we're waiting to see how that plays out. Cos the same goes for Man United. If they've got the money now and the player has said he wants to go there, why haven't they put a bid in. I suspect it's because they haven't got the money now.

If they can't get the money, then at some point they'll have to walk away. At which point we can put a bid in with some certainty of getting the player.

I should imagine we're being advised in some capacity by his agent who most likely has said he's holding out for Man Utd. So if we were to bid now, the player will likely turn us down.

As Gemmill says, we need Man Utd to show their hand before we act. I suspect they'll persuade someone to take Garnancho, Sancho or Hojlund and they'll be able to raise the funds to sign him and that will be that.

Liverpool are probably looking at this situation far closer than we are tbh.

The flip side though is that if we do bid, Sesko has a decision to make and it flushes Man Utd out. He can turn us down but then he's potentially faced with missing out on all options if it turns out they can't get it over the line. Beyond which, it doesn't sound like it fits Howe's blueprint for players.

Unless we really are completely desperate at this point, to the degree that we are happy to be second choice if it comes to it.

I think his agent will be well aware what Man Utd's intentions are. I think Sesko will be more informed than we appreciate if we were to put a bid in now.

I think the reality is that we will always be second choice when one of these "legacy clubs", as Simon Jordan calls them, comes in.

You're right that it flushes them out, but we'll just be made to wait with a bid accepted while the player hopes and prays Man United can match our bid.

I don't know why we would do that (as much as I would like this to be over by us pricing them out of the race). There's no great urgency to bid now, cos we've got Isak.

Maybe that's the club's thinking ultimately, that they'll patch it up with Isak if they can't get this done. There is absolutely no way we're going to go into next season without an established striker - so our ambivalence comes from that. I half wonder if Man Utd want Sesko because they know it blocks Liverpool getting Isak tbh, but I doubt even they still think they're competing at that table.

Judging by the fan expectations now they've got goal scoring options, they absolutely do think they're back at the sharp end. They've completely forgotten about their shortcomings in most other areas.

You're suggesting we sit on our hands until we know whether Man U can find another £6m and if they do then we walk away? Did you graduate from the Paul Mitchell School of Negotiations?

We make a bid and if the player is dragging his feet then we give him a deadline and if it passes then we move on. We can't afford to wait around to see what Man U end up doing.

That's definitely the best approach to minimise our chance of signing the player.

This just goes to show what a piss poor position of power we come from. Sitting there waiting for Man Utd to count their coins….

if we weren’t desperate I’d just walk away.

Sesko doesn’t want to come here. And he won’t.

That's not a PSR issue though, it's a relative success problem. They've won everything in the last 30 years, we've won one thing in the last 55.

It's all very well us going "yeah but no CL and they finished in the bottom half last season", but we were getting relegated on the semi-reg not that long ago.

It's gonna take AGES to flip that script.

I think this Summer has brought some stark realisation (to both club and fans) that we cant pay the big bucks and we aren't a big draw to top players. Not even CL football can entice.

Or have we just completely mis-managed the whole window ?

Liverpool have announced their squad number changes for the 25/26 season.

Only 2 existing players have changed - Conor Bradley & Trey Nyoni. Federico Chiesa remains at #14.

Maybe something and nothing but if they were confident of signing Isak I'd have thought they'd free up that number.

Im not sure Chiesa would be happy about giving his shirt upto someone that hasn't even signed yet.

Nope, but if the intention is to sign him, and lets face it they'll expect to flog a fuckload of Isak shirts if they do, why release the numbers now.

They usually get confirmed on the eve of the first game.

If he does sign, I think there is very little chance of it happening before our game with them.

Yeah, let's just wait until the end of the month. We can always get DCL in after the window has shut.

on £150k a week to sit next to Botman on the physio bench.

Waiting for the Downie update where he starts softening us up on DCL.
