Yeah the irony, eh? Some people will protest for protest's sake and you rightly point out there's likely corruption - it even was alluded to in the video about the stack in that proper impact assessments weren't conducted. FWIW I think the new stadium will get the go ahead slightly north of where it is now. I also reckon the existing site won't be handed back as parkland - that's prime 'fan zone' location - club shop, bars, eating places, ticket office, club offices, parking will all be in the that space IMO.

I really hope the existing footprint is used as park land personally, including a thoroughfare to the ground. Imagine Leazes terrace facing a victoriana style park rather than the brutality of the east stand. Westward facing too. Are there any properties for sale there? Would go up massively in value.

Sorry, but

Can't whack it man.  Admittedly it's only good in the same way that the Anchor on Wallsend High Street can be good, but on a matchday it's perfectly acceptable.  Not where I'm likely to venture when I'm out with wor lass (although I do think she secretly enjoys it) but then neither are most of the bars I would go in on a match day.

I've been to the Stack once and it was canny. Not on a match day, so there was a sensible number of people in there. Brack burger for me too which was decent. I thought it was alright.

Anyway, the REAL news I bring you all is that I've been talking to one of the park rangers from the council today who was saying that the council has brought parks back in house, having outsourced it up until recently, and all signs are that it's to do with handling the decision around the new ground on Leazes Park.

You can stick your Caulkin, Edwards, and Hope. I'm the real deal going undercover and breaking news in this region.

Fucking hell, that's that then, no new ground. Today was bad enough now this.

It's got some longevity mind, I'll give ut that. I went there with my second ever girl friend on a first date, fucking 39 years ago!

It's one thing drinking in Sgt Peppers but have you ever had the BALLS to go in there for lunch.

Cos I have. Beef stottie with gravy. I can still remember it almost 30 years later.

I like those Stack/Boxpark type places because everyone can get the food (and presumably drink) they actually want. Even if that does make it sound like the Eldon Square Food Court with pints. Not sure I'd spend a huge amount of time there myself, but it's the kind of option every city centre should have nowadays. If some of the less good pubs are suffering as a result, that's because they're the less good pubs.

Maybe they have bigger overheads though, dunno. There's only so much custom and I'd like to see it focused on permanent city centre venues, not what are almost pop ups. For the same reason, I'd love to nuke the metro centre.

When I started doing continental shifts and was sometimes off during the week and the wife, (girlfriend then) worked in town I'd get a call to meet her for her dinner hour, it was sometimes deli-france in Eldon Square, usually the lunch special in Godfather but now and again we'd venture up to Bourgognes and we'd use her luncheon vouchers she got from work, also used them in that chippy that used to be down the stairs where the old Odeon was which I can't remember the name of? Bring them back I say!! (Never could get away with Sgt peppers like).

Just looking at rightmove there out of curiosity, amazed to see this much property you can get for this price. Other side like but if I had the money Id take a punt on this area.

 https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/87079770

That's ridiculously good value, in my opinion. Which makes me curious as to why.

Put it this way, this is £5k more expensive...

There's the £250 a month service charge to consider. Also, isn't insurance on a Grade 1 building likely to be astronomic?

Aye but you're forgetting the amount of MLFs that live up Whitley Bay way. It spikes property prices being that close to such a universally loved group of people who love Sunderland so much they choose to live in North Tyneside.

Used to go to Peppers for years post-match. No idea why except maybe its proximity to the ground and the metro home. It’s an experience. Just not a very good one. I do recall (as I haven’t been in for at least a couple of decades) that they always had offers on drinks plastered all over the walls, on the bar, etc. but they were never available at the time / day you were there. Also, despite the Beatles-theme name and psychedelic pictures on the wall all they ever seemed to play was 70s Glam Rock. I can hear Tiger Feet by Mud now when I picture the fucking dive.

Fucking Bourgognes  I used to imagine some hapless French tourists being lured in hoping for some Coq au Vin washed down with a bottle of the finest Pinot Noir only to be confronted with pensioners and their shopping bags having a couple of pints before getting the bus home

What's Old Orleans these days? Or is that building no longer there cos of the redevelopment of the bus station?

It's still there I think. Called something different and not as good. The chippy I was thinking about was bimbis. It ended up next to Haymarket metro/old  Orleans but was next to the old Odeon, down the stairs, used to be a tea room back in the day.

I remember being in there with a few of my work mates and there was a few, how say*, oriental people in as well as some, how say**, people who looked they were from the African continent, both lots cheering on Man U or Chelsea who were playing each other. I'm not sure they'd have got through that day/match unscathed tbh? (First I'd ever seen anything like it at the time in the toon).

* And ** What do you want me to say?!

Old Orleans is The Junction isn’t it? I haven’t been in. In fact the only times I’ve been in town for a drink in about the last two or three years I’ve only been to Rosie’s before going to Spot White for a few games of pool. That’s the extent of it

I know there are potentially millions of human interactions everyday but this shows how relatively small a match day universe can be - we frequented Bourgognes pre-match for years in the 90s and were also post match Sgt Peppers and indeed Lennons regulars - let's face it everyone on here has stood next to everyone else at a bar sometime in history.

Went in those a few times, but Idols under the Swallow Hotel was my regular haunt. Classy as fuck
