Mate of mine was in Weardale Mountain Rescue Team at the time, they were asked to assist with searching in Kielder Forest for debris and remains. His teammate found a trainer with its “contents”still in it. Said it was the most depressing thing he’s ever done- lots of luggage and clothing recovered.

I watched that the other night. I was 11 at the time and remember it vividly. What I wasn't aware of at the time was the flight path was over the village where my grandparents lived. Had it exploded just 5 minutes earlier it'd have been dropping there rather then Lockerbie.
