Is still specifically about Bridgets comments? I read them in the Guardian and can't say I found anything to disagree on?

The EU is/was open borders as part of a Union bound by a common framework of values, beliefs, law, trade and shared competencies. It is a wonderful institution. And yes, the idea was to boost poorer nations like Poland, enriching us all ultimately as the market increased in size and value. And it worked, with Poland shortly surpassing us on GDP per capita. But this has to be done cautiously and incrementally. The next step after the balkans would l guess be Turkey. But that won't happen in anyone's lifetime on here. Because they do not have shared values, are not fully democratic, have very dubious human rights, and do not meet the required economic conditions. After that would be Russia, aye, right. We're never going to have any meaningful union with an African or Asian country, just isn't going to happen, for dozens of reasons. And anyway, taking their "healthy young workers" isn't doing those countries any favours. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting your country, whether by itself or part of Union, to be self sufficient in terms of its work requirements. The aim should be to invest in Africa so it can flourish, not rob it of its human wealth and all the attendant problems this causes. I realise as well of course that this is never happening either.

Honestly some of you need to take a breath and perhaps read back on how you've conducted yourselves especially over the last 5 pages or so. Chill the fuck out, man! Joao Pedro might well end up at Chelsea (not confirmed as yet). If he doesn't end up here it'll be for one of a number of reasons: We were never in for him. We weren't prepare to pay the fee / wages for him He wasn't interested in coming here. Was probably the first one and his agent using our name to bump up the price. In Eddie we trust - if he was the right fit, he'd be coming here.

I'm wondering at what point Labour are expecting things to improve for them in terms of popular support - this cannot possibly be the strategy they're going to stick to running into the next GE. All these policies and statements which seem designed to alienate young, progressive voters, how on earth is this going to benefit them? I could buy it if they were picking up votes somewhere to the right but there's no evidence that they are. It feels like the whole thing is designed to suffocate the Tories but how does that help once Reform merge/ally/flat out replace them.

I wouldn't dare, No way could I go through life worrying about being smacked in the face with a plastic sword.

Media whore, tbh.

Also we've spent centuries exploiting Africa and the sub continent. Bit harsh to turn them away now
-
We had open borders with Europe and that helped raise the living standards in the less well of states. Surely that's the best evidence available that open borders is a good thing An influx of healthy young workers who send money home then return when they've made some money is what happens in the majority of cases. Not to conflate economic refugees with asylum seekers whom I assume you wouldn't turn away

Perhaps the low ball offers were based on the hope of PSR bargains.

So, my great uncle (who I've talked about on here before) who was missing/KIA in 1915 will be laid to rest, with full military honours etc. In September on the 110th anniversary of the battle/his death. I will be there. Just been on the phone with BBC Scotland who are looking at covering the discovery, identification and ceremony as a documentary and they want to film with me and the artefacts (letters) we have. Yikes Toonpack on TV 😂

Honestly, watch it. He does a test dive and it's like pop................... pop...........pop..pop.pop.pop.popppppp. This is after the test model only reached half it's intended depth before being crushed like one of Homer's Duff cans. Stupid twat had built these sonic sensors which he just ignored. But you could physically hear the hull breaking. Really tense viewing even knowing g the end.

We live as nation states though. If you're arguing open borders then nah, I don't agree. We had the best arrangement with the EU with FoM. But the EU and UK needs to have external borders with the rest of the world and not allow unfettered economic migration from the developing world. It's not good for those countries either, us cream skimming their most educated people. Surely the best thing to do would be to pull up living standards in India and Africa? That will also decrease their own birth rate which is needed because of climate change etc.

The best way to beat reform is to have some policies designed to help the worse off rather than benefit the corperations and protect the rich The world's population is expanding repaidly, its a mistake to think in narrow nationalist terms
-
I read a good longread about it a while back so don't feel the need to necessarily watch the documentary, but if it contains more pearls like him treating a submarine hull like it's a wok, I might be tempted...
-
Yeah, another rich, middle aged, white, narcissistic psychopath. Great film though. Didn't get what he deserved as he wouldn't even know it had happened. Feel sorry for the kid robbed of his life who, iirc, didn't even want to do it. Also, fucking leave the Titanic alone now you morbid grave diggers.

Has anyone watched the documentary about the Titan submersible that went bye-bye with 5 people on board? It's on Netflix. Fuck me, the bloke running the show. What a cunt. Hired people with the know-how to actually do what he was wanting to do and then sacked them one by one as they raised red flags about his plans. Then tried to bankrupt and ruin the life of a whistleblower that tried to put a stop to it all. There's bits where he's going deeper and deeper and you can hear the carbon fibre hull making these terrifying popping noises, which people on the doc are explaining is the carbon fibre strands snapping - in other words, the hull is failing. Daft lad calls it "seasoning the hull". He deserved what he got, it's just a shame he took others with him. A proper narcissistic psycho.
-
I'm fairly agnostic to whether it's a good thing or not tbh, but clearly a lot of people don't think it is which is leading to Reform etc. And I'm unsure how sustainable it is, surely a population should be approximately self replacing? Surely it's wrong young adults can't experience the joys (and misery) of parenthood due to barriers imposed so we just have immigration to fill the gaps? Of course the impact of AI remains to be seen. Fuck knows what the future holds tbh.

I'll be at an ADULTS ONLY hotel in Kos next month. 📢 BRING ON THE FANNYYYYYYY!

Correct. On a serious note though, I don't know why anyone would have kids here these days. The country is dropping to bits, the climate is upside down, most people are complete fucking wankers, and it's all getting worse every year.
-
This would be a good thing in my opinion There also plenty of Eurooeans who could be "imported" My kids are both in their 30's. I'd be astonished if either of them became parents
-
If that is genuinely the reason this doesn't happen then we deserve the hellscape we're heading towards.

aren't you aware that this is the '70s thread?
