When all's said and done, that side would have been playing last night whether we'd sold Carroll or not. Emphasises the fact that, aside from the fact that we could ill afford to lose Carroll, equally if not more so we couldn't afford to not bring anyone more in.

Having just seen Pardew's press conference for the first time, I'm actually beginning to think that Carroll may well have been the catalyst himself. The bit about wanting the new contract now or wanting the opportunity to speak to Liverpool being met with "you need to put that in writing Andy" does seem plausible. I still have massive questions with regards the quick timescale between bid rejection, transfer request submitted & bid being accepted but having watched the interview I'm coming to the conclusion that either Pardew is a fucking tremendous liar or he's saying it as it is. That said, the club still aren't squeaky clean in all of this - allowing him to use the owner's helicopter to get to his destination? WTF!
