Harris: Quick sale or wait for Magpies Published: 23/11/2008 Newcastle are unlikely to be sold until February if a deal is not done inside the next three weeks. Keith Harris, the man charged with the task of finding a buyer by current owner Mike Ashley, has confirmed his suspicion that the current economic climate and impending transfer window mean a sale may not go through until well into the new year. Harris, chairman of investment bank Seymour Pierce, told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek show: "What I have said in the past is, if you put yourself in the position of a prospective owner of Newcastle or any other football club, you want to be there and have had a chance to work with the manager to decide on what should happen to the playing staff, both coming out and going in." He added: "If that isn't the case, you probably want to wait and see how the activity was in January, so you would defer it until February. "We are nudging now towards mid-November and unless it is going to happen in the next couple of weeks, maybe three weeks, it is probably likely to be deferred until after the close of the window, when also people have got some hopes that the financial chaos will have settled down a little. "It's my gut feeling, but it is no more than gut. I have got nothing tangible to base it on other than that instinct. "I don't think there is anything negative in that, it is force of circumstances." Ashley engaged Harris' services in September amid a popular revolt over manager Kevin Keegan's departure.

Just noticed, with all this talk of JFK, today is the 45th anniversary of the assassination.

I've done this by editing the database but you'd need to start a new game using the edited database for it to work, however I see on the Susie site there is a thread dedicated to competion correction: http://sortitoutsi.net/forum/index.php?sho...60&start=60

Not worth £15 in my opinion, I'll download it later tomorrow if I can avoid the result.

The movement of Kennedy's head, the infamous "back and to the left", along with the misting of blood seem to suggest the shot was from a forward angle.

My instincts have always been that the final shot came from the front, I presume the book depository was behind the vehicle ?

Can't get excited about this one for some reason, hope Hatton wins though, Malignaggi is an irritating tosser.

If he sticks to it I think that will mean it would only be him, Lennox Lewis, Rocky Marciano and Gene Tunney to retire as champion.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about any team other than Newcastle United. I occasionally see Ipswich if my sister has a spare ticket but other than that its the Toon all the way, its the only team that can spoil my day.

Kinnear keen to work with Shearer http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/f...cus/7742625.stm Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear says Alan Shearer is "more than welcome" to work at St James' Park. Shearer has been continually linked with a Newcastle return and admitted in September he would like to be manager. Kinnear, whose talks with owner Mike Ashley about his own future have been delayed, told the BBC's Football Focus: "I have the utmost respect for Shearer. "The door is always open and if he is listening to this interview he is more than welcome to learn his trade here." Kinnear added: "I would be delighted if he wanted to come here two days a week and see for himself what football is all about. "From Alan's point of view he will be looking, more for the future than right now. "Because right now is a difficult time to come in also in terms in injuries. Maybe he is biding his time." But Shearer, who scored 206 goals in 404 appearances, has been consistently linked with taking the job on a permanent basis - with Keegan, another Geordie idol, also tipped for a return. However, Kinnear said he was not worried by the speculation. "I have just got on with things," he said. "They are two idols that everybody loves up here, so I'm never going to be as popular as those two and I'm not trying to be. I am aware of the situation and can handle it." In the meantime, the current Newcastle boss is busy considering player recruitment. "We need two players in as soon as possible, and I have them in mind," he said. "One is with Roma and isn't in the team at the moment. The other has already scored against us this season." Following Kinnear's substantial clue about a Roma player, one man who has been heavily linked is John Arne Riise. The 28-year-old Norwegian former Liverpool star left Anfield for Roma over the summer but having played regularly, he may not be on Newcastle's wanted list. By contrast, French defender Philippe Mexes has made fewer appearances and was recently reported to be in talks with AC Milan, as Roma try to offload star players to service their debts. Kinnear's other clue, about a player who has scored against Newcastle this season, does little to narrow down the list of possibilities. It has been suggested that Arsenal's 20-year-old midfielder Denilson is Kinnear's target as he scored in the Gunners' 3-0 win earlier this season, but 23 players have scored against Newcastle this term. Kinnear had initially expected to be in charge at the Tyneside club for a matter of weeks but, with the news that talks with owner Ashley will no longer take place after Saturday's game against Chelsea, has settled in for a longer haul. "I have already got my shortlist ready and I will be giving it to Mike," said the 61-year-old. "I know their agents and what they would be is loan deals from January until the end of the season. I already know the player in Rome would cost us £2m to bring over here. "We need to strengthen the team and the squad and, if we can get them, they would be a big boost because both are top-class players."

Huckerby trains with Lowestoft Town 19 November 2008 Darren Huckerby will be put through his paces tomorrow when he begins his off-season training - with Lowestoft Town. The former Canaries winger is back in the UK for around four months before returning to San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS next year. He is unable to train with the current Norwich City squad, but found the gates of Crown Meadow wide open - and with some familiar faces waiting for him. His former City team-mate, defender Craig Fleming, helps coach the Ridgeons Premier Division leaders, while Dave Carolan, the former City sports scientist who now works with Colchester United, will also be putting the players through their paces. Those players include former Norwich midfielder Cedric Anselin and ex-City reserve team player Damian Hilton, who has signed for the Blues after quitting as Wroxham manager. “They're a good bunch of lads who work hard and Hucks will benefit from a run-out with them,” said Fleming. “Dave will start off with some warm-up stuff and then I'll get stuck into them - it'll be nice to come up against Hucks again.” Huckerby won't be playing competitive football during the American off-season, with Glenn Roeder having recently dismissed any idea of setting up a loan deal, similar to the one which has seen David Beckham sign for AC Milan. Training begins at 7pm, with spectators welcome.

Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling is to become the next presenter of Channel 4 quiz show Countdown. Stelling, the host of Soccer Saturday, is known for his extensive knowledge of match day football statistics. The news ends months of speculation over a replacement for Des O'Connor, who announced his departure in July. Stelling will be joined by maths graduate Rachel Riley. She replaces Carol Vorderman, who recently recorded her final edition of the show. "I am delighted to be hosting Countdown and follow in the footsteps of such great broadcasters as Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam and Des O'Connor, " said Stelling, who has been named Sports Broadcaster of the Year for the last three years. Sky said Stelling's new role would not affect his commitments to Soccer Saturday or its live football coverage. 'Cool job' Stelling and Riley will front the new series of the show when it returns to TV screens in January. Riley, who recently left Oxford University, beat 1,000 applicants to land the co-host role. "There's only one cool maths job around and I was lucky enough to get it so I'm absolutely thrilled," the 22-year-old said. Countdown was the first programme to be broadcast when Channel 4 launched in November 1982. The show was originally fronted by the late Richard Whiteley and Vorderman, who spent 26 years on the show. Des Lynam took over as host following Whiteley's death in 2005. The popular host had been suffering with pneumonia. O'Connor replaced Lynam in 2006. "I feel certain that our much-loved words and numbers game will go from strength to strength," said Helen Warner, head of Channel 4 daytime, of the new line-up.

The Guardian: Newcastle United's interim manager, Joe Kinnear, will have to wait for a meeting with the club's owner, Mike Ashley, despite repeatedly insisting he was due to discuss the progress of a proposed takeover after tomorrow's trip to Chelsea. Kinnear has consistently referred to the planned talks with Ashley as a pivotal moment for the future of the club, but it seems Newcastle's owner does not share his sense of urgency as doubts once again surfaced about finding a buyer soon. The 61-year-old coach, frustrated by the uncertainty surrounding his position, argued earlier this week he would push for a contract until the end of the season if the sale was taking longer than expected. However Kinnear had changed tack yesterday, claiming he was happy with his month-by-month deal, and admitted he had been mistaken in his belief that this weekend represented any sort of deadline regarding the takeover. "I said it would be after the Chelsea game," said Kinnear, "but the goalposts have moved since then. Every time it gets nearer to being sold a problem pops up, the credit crunch and whatever else. "They keep saying we are that much away," he added, gesturing a tiny gap between fingers, "but we have not seen any finances coming up. That is all they tell me. Until something concrete comes up it is not sold, and I will keep going on a month-by-month basis." There was better news for the club's talisman Michael Owen yesterday. The England striker, ignored by the national coach Fabio Capello in Berlin on Wednesday, could be recalled to the Newcastle starting line-up at Chelsea as Kinnear believes Owen - who came off the bench to score his sixth goal of the season in the 2-2 draw against Wigan at St James' Park last Saturday - is fit for his first start since early October after recovering from a groin problem. "I would say he's close to 100% now," said Kinnear. "Michael is frustrated because he feels he is almost there, but he's getting better and better, and sharper and sharper. He has his own private coach and he has been doing an hour's special work with him before training starts. That is the type of professional he is." The Sunderland manager, Roy Keane, has requested a personal hearing from the Football Association as he intends to deny a misconduct charge following a run-in with the referee Martin Atkinson during the 5-0 defeat by Chelsea on November 1. Keane was sent to the stands for the first time as a manager after complaining to the referee at half-time. Keane has also recalled Carlos Edwards from a loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Trinidad & Tobago midfielder is expected to go straight into the squad to face West Ham on Sunday.
