I bet they were fucked by the end of the night....
  2. He is clearly very bitter, but his assessment of Ashley in the past hasn't been inaccurate
  3. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has issued a scathing indictment of Mike Ashley's Newcastle folly by declaring Steve Bruce would not even consider moving to St James' Park until a takeover was completed. Bruce, 47, is being championed for the Newcastle manager's position by no less than Sir Bobby Robson but Whelan is adamant he would not be interested in serving Ashley despite strong local connections. "Steve won't come here and work with Mike Ashley," Whelan said. "There's no chance Steve would go near a club if it's not run the way he thinks it should be. "Steve wants to work with a chairman who understands the game and does not expect too much, too soon. He wants respect and he will show you respect. He's great to work with." Bruce's abilities were demonstrated by the way Wigan went about their work on Tyneside. Ryan Taylor put his side ahead early on before Emmerson Boyce was wrongly sent off. Newcastle's revival yielded Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins goals before Titus Bramble equalised. "If someone could bring Newcastle silverware they'd go down in history as a God," Whelan added. "I hope it's not Steve Bruce because I get on so well with him but I know I have to face the fact that sometime he'll leave. "He's so good, one of the big clubs will come for him. He's been linked with Newcastle in the past. He is from here. He loves Newcastle. There is no question about that. He's Newcastle through and through." Ashley is trying to sell Newcastle and Whelan believes there can be no turning back for his rival sports retail tycoon following the resignation of Kevin Keegan in protest at transfers conducted above his head by the club's 'Cockney Mafia'. "I spoke to him when the row started and I said 'Mike, just get your money back and step away'," Whelan added. "He'll never repair the damage between himself and the fans. Because I know Mike, I said as soon as he can find a buyer he's gone. "If Mike Ashley will sell it for the right money, he will sell it next week. Now, is he being greedy? Yes." Whelan also admitted to being dumbfounded at Owen's presence on the bench because he is the "best poacher in the world". As Bruce enjoyed a post-match cup of tea with Robson, interim Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear, whose deal expires after Saturday's trip to Chelsea, defended his decision to "carefully" ease Owen back into action following injury but he is exasperated at his inability to sort out his captain's long-term future. "Michael is priceless and I'd like to be in the position to sit down with Michael and talk about a new contract but I'm on the outside, not the inside," Kinnear said. "My rolling contract ends a week on Monday. If I'm offered another one I'd take it. If I'm here Michael's the last person I want to leave.
  4. all just a distant memory in the wank-bank.
  5. Can't remember who said it, think it was an ex Arsenal player on Talksport, and he said that Kinnear had been spending a lot of time at Arsenal prior to his appointment at Newcastle, and Wenger was in the process of offering Kinnear a job as a scout, as apparently his eye for talent is well respected in the game. His words, not mine.
  6. I had assumed Owen musn't have been fit yesterday, because otherwise to not start him would be literally insane. And then it transpires he was fit after all. It should be a sackable offence, but of course no one is mad enough to take the manager's job at present. But it's ok, just try and remember that Shola is the new John Fashanu.....
  7. Like the man said, if you had logo's, facepacks and kits etc on FM08 and haven't uninstalled yet, just drag the graphics folder from My documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008 over to the Football Manager 2009 folder in My Documents/Sports Interactive, as there isn't one by default, then go to preferences, graphics and display and turn off "skin cache" and turn on "reload skin on confirm". Also I like to edit the Competion names, using the game editor, which is in the tools folder in the Football manager 2009 folder in "program files", I change Premier Division to Barclays Premier League and Champions Cup to UEFA Champions League etc, because I'm a bit obsessional.
  8. Yeah, like it's optional. A stunning Scargillesque comb-over ?
  9. Just a shame we've not seen more of him.
  10. your thinking Kinnear would have made a well thought out tactical substitution though Even Allardyce got the hang of chucking strikers on when you're losing at home. I thought he would usually bring a defender on ?
  11. Yes? if we didn't give away stupid fucking goals Martins scoring would get us points he's a striker who is scoring... what more do you want... and he apparently put a great ball through for owen to miss from point blank range Ant the lad's touch is a fucking disgrace and he has a brain the size of a pea. It was a cross that he put in for owen when he finally came to life. Prior to that he was as bad was against fulham. He is very clearly not good enough. Shola is another striker who's scoring if we're using that line of thinking. I can't disagree, I've been a big fan of Martins in the past but he is not consistant enough, he is a scorer of great goals, rather than a great goal scorer, and right now we need the latter.
  12. BBC: 1616: RED CARD Emmerson Boyce picks up his second yellow for a foul on Shola Ameobi and is sent from the field. Replays show that the Wigan player clearly got the ball.

  14. I hate him too, but his Birmingham side were good enough to fuck us up the arse in the FA cup a couple of seasons ago.
  15. I can't abide the man, but I think there is every chance he'd have done a better job than Souness and Roeder.
  16. I just stumbled across a series of links on an erotic forum
  17. Steve Bruce heads to Newcastle admitting he regrets turning down the chance to manage his hometown club. The Wigan boss was offered the post four years ago when he was in charge at Birmingham. He rejected the opportunity of an emotional return home, having just signed a long-term deal at St Andrew's. The temptation to walk out on Birmingham was tempered by fears his previous frequent switching of jobs would hand him an unwanted reputation as a man unable to stick it out at one club. But Bruce has since lived to regret his loyalty and admits his son, Ipswich defender Alex, gave him stick for refusing to head home. He said: 'I have regretted not going. Of course I have. The opportunity was when Sir Bobby Robson left but I had just signed a new deal at Birmingham. 'It was the most difficult decision of my life. Being a Geordie, it was always the team I supported as a boy. It was a huge decision. Even the family were surprised. My son Alex even said to me: "What you doing, you daft idiot?".'
