  1. Or three posts up, even. But aye, fair play. Speaking of canvassing, I know I'm in a safe Labour area but I've literally had one canvasser (Labour, so at least that) knock on my door in nearly 14 years of living in Lewisham, and that was for the council elections five years ago. Really makes you feel wanted.
  2. We were... literally just talking about that...

Going back through this thread always cheers me up no matter how bad things are going in the real world. Look at this, man. A photo of a baked potato like we don't know what one is.
  6. Oh, and his actual name is Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax. This fucking country.
  7. "They work for you" website shows Drax has voted against measures to limit climate change, against various pieces of equality and human rights legislation, against same sex marriage, against proportional representation, against smoking bans, against a higher tax rate for those earning above £150,000, against a bankers' bonus tax, for lower corporate taxes, for lower welfare benefits, for ending educational financial support for any 16-19 year olds and for the "bedroom tax". Sounds about right.
  8. She's dared to criticise the regime, she's got no chance.
  9. It'd be the first time since '92 that I haven't stayed up (and that was only because I was on a school trip), but If the exit poll is well outside the margin of error - a 30+ Tory majority, say - then I'll most likely switch off. There's no benefit to putting yourself through it really.
  10. It was always the best available outcome.
  11. Who could possibly have guessed that a Rees-Mogg would turn out to be a Tory after all?
  12. I guess it's one of those things that takes a while to turn around, so you're seeing the delayed impact of what happened after 1997, a bit like Trump being able to take credit for the economic upturn that's down to the foundations laid by Obama. I could, of course, be talking out of my arse.

  14. I don't know about the tunes but he was definitely high on the WORD of the LORD. In all that, I'd completely forgotten about the sixth independent, a well-spoken chap who explained he was literally a "none of the above" candidate with no real positions beyond that. Terrific.
  15. They're not standing this time but John Hamilton was chairing the thing, because of course he's Extinction Rebellion now too.
  16. Went to the joint hustings for my constituency and the neighbouring constituency last night and it was a glorious shambles. More than half of the time was taken up by five independent/minor candidates, including a Christian People's Alliance woman who answered questions by reading from scripture, a lovely but bewildered Thai student who thinks London parks are important because we can use them to grow crops after Brexit, a middle-aged candidate for the anti-EU "Young People's Party" whose opening address was mainly centred on how he thinks his own party's name is rubbish, an aging LGBT anarcho-socialist who wants to turn the UK into Belarus, and a local Jamaican elder who blasted out reggae tunes on a portable sound system then used most of his allotted time to talk about knife crime, God's will, and how the event was racist because there weren't enough "dark-skinned people" in attendance. All amplified by the fact that it was organised and hosted by Extinction Rebellion, so the whole place was all banners and leaflets and petition sign-up sheets in the first place. To her credit, the sitting MP (Porno Naming Department's Vicky Foxcroft) was good when she allowed herself to go off-script instead of talking about the big red manifesto every 30 seconds, the Lib Dems were convincing enough, and one of the two Greens was very substantial and would probably get my vote if she was in my constituency (unfortunately I've got the other one, who's of the wishy-washy-animal-rights-y ilk). Anyway, for all I previously described him as a "Spurs-supporting blank page", the Lib Dem probably gets my vote for this tweet alone.
  17. Relationship status: Single, transferable
  18. Who's the top and who's the bottom?
  19. Withdrawing half of their candidates will have had an impact there, I suppose. Might turn out to have been a bit of a PR error in terms of losing the momentum you can often gain from decent poll showings.
