  1. Ahh, the joys of living in South London.
  2. You are, but it's only the third worst mistake in your post. The second is dismissing knockout formats as a valid sporting construct, and the first is thinking golf is a sport.
  3. Still waiting for an adequate explanation of this one.
  4. Scandi night chez Meenz, courtesy of the wonderful Film Four. Festen is really very good. Of course the Dogme ethos is trumped-up nonsense, and the Danish language is so ugly you can't tell who's supposed to be drunk and who isn't, but the script and performances are terrific. You, The Living is a bizarre collection of loosely interlinked skits on sadness and mortality, played out against a grey and faded Swedish urban landscape. The humour is dark, bone-dry and, for the most part, very quiet. If anything it reminded me of some of the more experimental parts of Monty Python's Meaning Of Life, which is generally not a bad thing.
  5. Not if you do it right like I do. Trollies at the self-service tills!
  6. The amount of sorting time required to ensure correct bag content distribution is the same whether the sorting takes place pre-scan or post-scan. It's quite logical. What we should really be focusing on here is people who think it's OK take trollies to the self check-out.
  7. Which is why I don't do that, as I said. Or I can scan it all through quickly and put it in the correct order when I'm packing it, which takes the same amount of time, as I said. Also, a trolley at the self-service? Ewerk is going to go fucking apeshit.
  8. He almost certainly won't have decided yet, but Hamburg usually isn't long after Wimbledon, so maybe that? (It used to be in May, which is why I was able to go and see several days of it on my university year abroad.) I do take your point about gloryhunters and toffs, but I love the game. Off work today with the deadly man-flu so I've been reading all about the wacky world of Bruno Rebeuh - as well as YouTube surfing for clips like this, which might put a few people's minds at ease when it comes to goalline technology in football. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edlWAOZTBnQ
  9. Aye, that's the thing. As much as anything it felt like a relief, like when Ivanisevic won in 2001 - someone getting their reward for years of hard slog. Obviously if you don't like the sport in the first place then that'll mean nothing to you, but if you do...
  10. The Fish keeps telling me I'd be a good dad. I'm starting to worry about what his intentions might be.
  11. I'm not. As I say, the time expenditure happens at some point of the process, so what does it matter when it happens? Other than the psychological burden when you lot start seething in the queue behind me because I've scanned everything through in super-quick time then take a minute to pack it. All of which makes me more committed to continuing to do so.
  12. The light/heavy and sturdy/squashable principles are absolutely sound, of course. Since the self-service tills don't have a conveyor belt, though, unless I've done my shopping in the reverse of the order described and my basket is already layered accordingly - with tins on top, squashing the poor tomatoes beneath - then it's just as easy to scan it all through and pack it correctly afterwards. There's a time loss at either end of the process.
  13. You'll jump straight in without knowing anything about it then too? Mind the whole thing is doubly ridiculous given he hasn't actually donated the money (this time).
  14. Well, it's close to home for him insofar as they're treating one of his best mates. I'd say that's close enough.
  15. I suppose that goes some way to explaining the occasional plummy Home Counties voice shouting "Come on, Knowvak!" from the Centre Court stands today (that and the desperate need to be different, obviously). Still, though, I don't feel like Murray is any less "mine" than 11 footballing mercenaries effectively representing themselves, even if they happen to be wearing the same national team shirt while doing so.
  16. He did donate his winnings from Queens Club to the same charity, so I guess that's where the confusion came from. Still, it's an English hospital, so I hope they rejected the money on account of him being a Jock cunt.
  17. Judy Murray? I'd go G&T-for-G&T with her all night long, she'd end up doing "Independent Women" on karaoke and drink everyone else firmly under the table. What's not to like?
  18. http://andymurrayometer.com/ About bloody time.

  20. Country is coming out of the closet, y'all!
  21. A friend of mine - very lovely but the stereotypical overdramatic American-Jewish worrier - is currently freaking out online because she landed at San Francisco on a 777 three days ago, so THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HER
