  1. Shearer offered him it as part of the deal for him to move IIRC. Owen asked for 10.
  2. @kingkev - nice one, that's what he's looking for. The names of the positions for each formation. Can one of our Fifa/PES owning stoodent layabouts not switch on their xbox/PS3 and jot them down please. Some of us are at work
  3. I get what you mean. This is where I appreciate peoples comments on the stigma attached to the shirt and the burden that would come with it. Having said that though, looking over the years, the no 9 has been worn by our main (and therefore best) CF. At the minute, we dont have an out and out best and so I can see the logic in holding it until we have one. I reckon part of the reason why Martins was given it rather than Shola (skill aside) is that Martins would not have succumbed to the pressure in the same way Shola would have, given Shola would be more understanding of the history/burden that came with it (and therefore more likely to be affected by it). Still, Martins was the better striker, so by that logic he should have got it anyway. Owen took himself out of the equation when he wanted to keep his no10.
  4. MacDonald achieved status because of Milburn. Milburn is the biggest icon, probably because he was a working class Geordie and he scored FA Cup Winners etc but the number 9 goes back further than that. I have a book called Cult Heroes and Gallagher, Veitch, Stubbins were all cult heroes of their time. You can only go by what the author says about some of these players but he paints a picture that Gallagher was almost a one man team and Veitch too was the Alan Shearer of his day, simply the best. Read somewhere Gallacher was arguably the best player in the world at his peak. I assume Len White wore the number 9 as well. He did indeed - "By the 1957-58 season White was the club's regular wearer of the number 9 shirt" Source: Clicky
  5. Keep an eye here nearer the time. Someone usually streams via uStream and it gets passed around.
  6. yeh fabios all for dropping controversial players another link and its balls, hes a CCC player who isnt very good I think that's a bit harsh on the lad tbh. It's not like he's been a first team player for several seasons and not been able to cut it (are you listening Shola?). I don't even think you can judge him on last season as no-one in the team was good enough and he didnt play regularly. He's been poor at times this season and in some cases, that's been down to not putting enough effort imo. I'm more positive now we have 2 wingers and we dont have to rely upon the inconsistent supply from Guti as I think we'll see more from our front two - Carroll and Lovenkrands now.
  7. Not bought by me, but by my Uncle for my upcoming visit to Newcastle. Tickets to the Preston game, Platinum Club - L2D I think. Taking my cousin too, so I'm really looking forward to it now
  8. I'm on the fence for this one. I can see where people are coming from in respect to it just being a number. Over the years we;ve had some quality no9's and some bloody awful ones too. However, perhaps sentimentally, I'd like to see the no9 continue it's elevated status. Local players will understand the significance moreso than many foreign players, but that's not to say that it has to be exclusive to them. I think it should be used as a reward to the best CF. SOmething to aspire too. I know Shola has had his eye on it for years, but to be honest, he's never bothered his arse to justify it. I think he just assumed he'd get it after Shearer retired because he was his understudy. If Carroll continues to put in the effort like the last game (and not behave like he has in the games before) then I think he could work his way into it. It could be something thats awarded at the beginning of a season, but something you have to work to keep the following season. After writing this, I guess I'm not quite centrally on the fence for this one, more leaning to one side

    Me mobiles fucked

what kind of phone is it Stevie? my nokia came with software and a cable so i could attach it to the computer and read and transfer everything onto the hard drive. Yeah, I'd suggest that too. If it works but the screen is buggered, then at least the data should be salvagable this way. Sounds like the phone screen is goosed though.
  10. Ssssshhhh, he's actually the real Elvis. After it all got a bit much in Vegas, he decided to move to Newcastle and lead a quiet and sedentary life. That is, until he discovered NUFC, which is anything but.
  11. Whatever you do, stay away from Acer. THey are cheaper than many (not the cheapest) and you get more bang for your buck; but at a price. I have an Acer laptop and it's been nothing but trouble. I'm trying to finish a project before I send it back to be repaired for the 3rd time in 2 years. Bag of shit.
  12. Yeah, Master Paws had it on Thursday. No ill effects, all much ado about nothing really.
  13. Get In! Nice to hear them commenting on (and recognising) how intelligent Lovenkrands play is. I'd play him up front every game - especially now we have 2 wingers.
  14. Aye, totally agree. We've lost or drawm too many games this season against teams that were there for the taking; all because we didnt seize the initiative. Having said that, tonight we are playing wiht two out and out wingers and Guthrie is in the middle of the park, where he should be; which has allowed us to be a proper attacking team. That's not to say we couldn't have played more attacking earlier in the season, but this is a more balanced team we have now I think.
  15. I've missed most of the half putting Paws Jr down (incidentally, he wanted to sleep in his toon top!), but from what I;ve heard Carroll has been a real handful this game. I said before KO he needed to step up and pull his weight - it seems he has. How has Best done? Also, Hall?
  16. I have to say I'm happy wiht the line up. I said earlier that although Nolan needed dropping, I'd take him iver smith if he's carrying an injury. He's playing Guthrie in the right place and fook me we have 2 wingers!!!!! Even more happy, 'cos of the result. Oh, and a pressie for our foreign friends linky
  17. Defence picks itself and like many; I'd love to see a midfield of Routledge, Smith, Guthrie and Jonas but cant see it happening. Guthrie will be dropped, but I can tolerate that if we at least play with two wingers. Nolan needs dropping but wont be, however, is Smith not nursing a knock? Something about his face? I read he refused to wear the plastic mask so combine that with the kicking he got early on against Leicester and that might explain his quiet game. That being the case, I'd consider dropping him over Nolan if he's not right. Upfront, this is the issue for me. Carroll needs to step up and pull his weight, I'm unconvinced about Ranger yet and Shola blows hot and cold (blows being the operative word). Best needs to start so we can see if he's any good and that being the case, is Lovenkrands the right type of player to pair up with him? I'd probably hope for .COCK's suggestion but with Shola in for Carroll. Fuck knows what we'll get though. If our midfield contains Butt & Smith again with Nolan off the main striker it's game over imo. Worst.Combination.Ever.
  18. Those earlier ones you posted looked canny Craig but those last ones (Nolan onwards) are pretty awful - anlthought be fair I'm not a fan of long sleeves. The first 2 MattM4 posted are canny too. If ours end up along those lines I'll be happy to buy a shirt this season. Well, assuming my stance on MA changes or he fucks off.
  19. On a recommendation from this thread, I bought a couple of case-mate 'barely there' covers for my two. Best £15 (each) I've spent for ages. We were staying over at lisa's mums and I left my phone in my back pocket when I was coming to bed. Got undressed on the upstairs landing so as not to wake the bairn up (everyone was asleep I must add at this point ) and put my jeans over the landing bannister. Bounced the iphone off the stairs bannister and down onto the hall floor (laminated. not carpeted) and it slid all the way to the front door. Not even a mark. I thought I'd have killed it. There is no feeling quite like dropping your iPhone, is there? Talk about panic Yeah, I actually went cold Not least because after all the shit I had with my Vodafone contract and what it took me to get away from them; the thought I'd broken my shiny new iphone only 6mths into my contract did not fill me with warm feelings.
  20. Yeah, I'd do the same mate. 3 do one for that kind of money with free internet - ideal for an iPhone. Not sure what o2's PAYG options are if you wanted to keep your number.

  22. Get the 16gb 3GS. The camera is better (although in fairness - still not great) but there are a number of other little features you get that arent on the 3G.
