1. I know what you mean, I'm surprised it took someone as long as this to pick me up on it. I just feel that if an English club had a problem with racism like some did 20 years ago they would not be allowed into the league now. For me Celtic and Rangers have a problem of that scale now. It certainly doesn't seem to get the attention it needs to get sorted, maybe people don't shout loudly enough about this divide, God forbid there were Jews or Muslims involved! 55618 Well, for the record, I can see the problems people hae with Celtic/Rangers in the premiership. I speak purely from a selfish point of view in that I would relish the opportunity of going up to Glasgow twice a year rather than London seven times a year. I just think it would spice things up at a time when the premiership has become unbelievably flat and boring. But what about my idea for an anglo-scottish league cup? Would that not make this pointless competition a bit more interesting? I made this point once on a 5-live debate, only for McMenemy of all people to poo poo it, claiming it was too far for London clubs to travel. The wanker. 55621 Is you idea to have all the competitive teams in Scotland and England play in the same cup or just the top league from each ? It sounds quite nice but if you do have all the teams in it, can you imagine a semi-professional team such as Elgin playing against a) someone like Chelsea where the score would quite easily get into double figures someone like Plymouth where there's no particular interest to travel many hundred miles to get beaten ? 55637 I guess it would mean all the leaugue teams from the English and Scottish leagues. But tbh, there's a lot of shit fixtures already, I don't see a problem. 55639 A semi-pro team in the far reaches of the North would have to spend quite a bit of money on travel, hotels and trying to get their players off work to enable them to visit another poor team in the south of England getting very little money in return. These teams know they're not going to get very far in these cups, why would they want to enter ? It might be a better idea to have qualifying sections in each country so that you'd get maybe 6 Scottish teams and 10 English teams in the pot for the round before the quarters ? 55642 Well yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Got to be an improvement on the league cup.

3. They wouldn't be mediocre for long Isegrim. Which to be fair is why most premiership clubs are very resistant to the idea of them joining. It won't happen.

5. Told you before son, Me = Acronym King, You = Lowly Peasant Good day. 55566 Technically I'm not even sure tbh is an acronym, tbh.
6. A bit harsh considering the fact you acknowledge that it is only a minority who are bigotted. How many Newcastle and Sunderland fans are bigotted towards each other? Given your previous definitions on what constitutes bigotry, I don't think the fact there is a religion element to it is really significant.
7. For the first time ever I'm in agreement with Foot Soldier, especially if they got in at the expense of two southern clubs. Both venues would be superb away trips compared to most we've got now. However, the first thing we should do is make the league cup more interesting by making it a Sottish-Anglo cup. On a one-off match basis I acually think the old firm would do OK. It's certainly make things more interesting, that's for sure.
8. If only for how hard security'll have to work to keep me away.... *sigh* 53899 I think you need help tbh. I would imagine he is repulsive to 99% of women!
9. Laurent Robert or Craig Bellamy in a few years time will be interesting.....
10. Next weeks half time hero is going to be Marcelino I hear.
11. He's an ugly hunch-backed Welsh dwarf though. 53321 Scored against the mackems, therefore legendary status is automatic. If I see him, the pints are on me. 53323 *cough* Andy O'Brien *cough* 53332 Funny the stick AOB gets. It seems to be completely forgotten that he was an important player back in the days when we were actually good.

13. I don't get it. 52617 Didn't he hang himself? 52618 Yes. Still don't get it though.
14. Canny I'm sure he probably meant he hated cockney arseholes though, so you would have been OK.
15. Good post Choc Chip. For the record, away fans seems to have a bigger proportion of racist dick heads. Either that or they keep quiet at SJP in case they lose their ST.
16. Only one crackpot on here to be fair Leazes, and several bored people who will rise to the bait, myself included unfortunately. 49588 I do mean Neil..i hope you do mate... blimey. After all you do agree with me about Souness 49622 Yes, I meant bez/not a racist/Neil or whatever he wants to call himself today.

18. I suggest he reregisters as "not a racist but an arrogant self-righteous twat" if you're allowed usernames that long. I have known a lot of truly intelligent people in my time, having spent the best part of 10 years in a high-level academic environment and mixing daily with consultants and professors to this day. Not to mention many people without a qualification to their name but who are obviously still incredibly bright. One thing I have noticed about intelligent people is they never boast about their academic achievements or their intelligence at all - they don't have to because they don't feel intellectually insecure, which bez obviously does. Now, I am aware that at times I, and others on here I could mention, can come across as a bit arrogant, superior or aloof on this forum, something that can cause me regret when I reread my posts in the cold light of day. But well done bez, you appear to have taken it to an entire higher level, what with your "I've got 16 letters after my name" and your "I wouldn't get out of bed for a teacher's salary" comments (that last one particularly makes you sound like a prick). I can only guess your motives, maybe your just a sad wum, or maybe you are nowhere near as clever as you think you are. What I do know is that in several dozen posts you haven't advanced the cause of anti-racism at all - you've just made yourself look stupid, that's all.
19. Well poverty and education are currently such that we can have a pretty much uniformly white Prime Minister, cabinet, House of commons, House of Lords, Police Force judicial system etc, etc So there is only a problem with povert and education with some whites, but with most blacks. 49198 It's difficult, I know, I'm not sure what the solutions are. Ironically, from a personal point of view, I see the the most poverty amongst white people. There are quite a large number of black/asian people I know employed as clinical or research doctors, earning a lot of money. Yet virtually all the scumbags I see on the Metro are white trash. To me this reinforces the idea that the root cause of the problem is cultural and societal (if there's such a word) rather than being about race. I can imagine it is very different in London mind. 49199 Very different in Leeds and Bradford as well. 49203 And up the West End. 49207 Fortunately I can avoid the west end. But in Newcastle, there are very few black people (as opposed to Asians), and a lot of them are involved with the University or hospitals I have found. I feel much safer sitting next to a black person on the metro than a white person dressed in the usual track suit bottoms etc. Does this make me racist? Oh, and I have no problem with immigrants or asylum seekers. They are the least of this country's problems imo.

21. exactly mate and thats my point. It isnt just about race the social reasons for the disparity need to be tackled, on both sides. Simply looking favourably on non white applicants wont do that 49191 But if the social reason is that most black people are poor, and work would make them not poor, isn't positive discrimination a good tool in tackling the social reasons for the disparity? 49195 Or you could just tackle the underlying cause, which is poverty and poor education per se, not race.
22. Well, the only people on the thread that think that the treatment of our players on the pitch depends on their race seem to be bez and Bridget. They're entitiled to their opinions, but it is interesting that everyone else disagrees. Personally, I am completely confident I'm not a racist, in the same way that I am confident enough about my sexuality that I am not "afraid" of homosexuals. I think most people think like this now, thank God. And that is surely the way forward. Maybe for once we should realise how far we have come forward without panicking about how far we have still to go.
23. Hmmm, despite 12 pages I'm yet to be convinced that Shola gets stick for any other reason than the fact he is usually shit. When he has a good game, like Sunday, he is rightfully praised.
