I love reading them. The stories are great, apparently the ladies love a man who can accidentally drop a towel. 66272 I'm trying to imagine what that's a euphemism for......
-
Is that actually reading, or just looking (probably squinting now). 66214 no, just wanking. 66224 The birds in Razzle are a bit rough imo. Prefer some of the classier Paul Raymond publcations tbh. 66238 Does anyone read porn mags anymore what with the internet? 66240 Never thought anyone actually read them per se. 66267 Ahem. They have very good articles on cars and stuff.
-
And another thing, have you noticed how ripped out pages of porn mags found randomly in the street have gone the way of white dog poo?

American Psycho was funny, it's hilarious it always gets so high up the best ever book leagues. It's not bad (well ethically I suppose it is), but come on. I reckon you're a Jackie Collins man. 66186 Catherine Cookson tbh 66193 Must be awful knowing she's not going to write any more. 66197 I was under the impression she only ever wrote one story with a slight alteration to the characters/circumstances with each new book. More of a Charles Bukowski man tbh. 66204 Yes, a computer could probably do her job. I don't read anywhere near enough tbh.

I've always thought Irish immigraton was laughably bad, I've walked through, beeped and muttered something about my watch and they've just waved me on. What on earth happened? It's the only airline I'll fly over there as RyanAir are crooks. 66189 I was on a 747 taxiing at Shannon, at the rear, when all of a sudden there was an explosion behind me. The plane slammed its brakes on, but the cabin crew froze - they were clueless. Anyway, there was fumes coming out a vent which made me dizzy, so I took the initiative, undid my seat belt and got up. I was the first to do this, and it sparked mass panic, and I was actually one of last off the last off the plane, ripping my arm on the emergency shoot on the way out. Turned out it was a door that exploded - had it done that in mid air the consequences could have been disasterous, especially for those sitting near it (always fasten your seat belts!). This was in 1992, and despite having flown over 100 times since, I am still shit scared at take off.

you'd take the risk of letting someone carrying a rucksack and screaming he has a bomb simply carry on regardless? .... I'm not sure what is more insane... 66183 I'll be honest, I haven't read the case in depth, and won't until the facts are clearly established, but how was he supposed to get a bomb through immigration? Virtually impossible now I would say, although security in the US was a total joke before 9/11.
-
You're from Ireland, aren't you? I love the way they have immigration there at Shannon airport, presumably because they turn back so many Irish people, and it saves them a 7 hour trip. Had a very bad experience on a plane there once - never flying Aer Lingus again!

I've quite fancied reading some more Iain Banks, I've only ever read 'The Wasp Factory' tbh. 66152 Ive read pretty much all of them. (I gave up on the science fiction ones fairly quickly) My personal favourite is "The Bridge" 66162 He writes as Iain M. Banks for his science fiction stuff I believe??? I've heard it's canny hard going like. Might investigate some of his other fiction. I thought 'The Wasp Factory' was great. 66163 Complicity is better than the Wasp Factory imo. Haven't read a Banks book in ages though. Ian McEwan is probably my favourite contemporary author. Moving on to another random point, has anybody read Bret Easton Ellis's new book - very mixed reviews.

Virtually everything said in the London case was found subsequently to be untrue. 66160 Unlike that case I would imagine there are literally dozens of eyewitnesses who saw exactly what happened. As an aside the Beeb are reporting today that police who shot Menenzes (sp?) at Stockwell tube station may now face charges. 66161 Well there were plenty of witnesses in London too, but all I'm saying is I'll keep an open mind. I noticed that headline on the BBC; expecting a thread from Rob to pop up any minute. 66164 Fair enough re: keeping an open mind. It's a bit different though as there was a chain of events re: the shooting of the bloke in London with no one really being witness to them all, if you see what I mean. 66167 I guess I'm just suspicious because last time I went through American immigration it felt like they might shoot me, the bastards! Not exactly a friendly welcome these days, for sure.

Going back to the London case, that lad had done absolutely nothing wrong or anything to raise suspicions other than being misfortunate enough to live in a block of flats inhabited by terrorist suspects. We'll have to see what the truth is in this case, but I certainly wouldn't rule out over zealous policing, especially in the US.

From Margaret Thatcher to pubs/hotels in the Tynemouth area, I love the way threads go so random. Anyone drink in the Maggy Bank - I imagine that must be Gemmill's local, probably seen him without realising....
-
The Park hotel, fuck me, that place has really gone to the dogs. It's owned by a greek man who is seemingly clueless. I don't want to say too much about it, for fear of libel, but put it this way, I believe food hygiene is a matter of public record now. What a waste, it now makes its money ripping off people getting married and catering for coach loads of OAPs (sorry if I've offended anyone getting or having been married there recently). The Grand, on the other hand, is superb in comparison. Copperfields at the back has the best pub food in Tynemouth.
-
Haven't been in since the revamp, but it looks like it's changed from a pub into a pretendy trendy wino. 65907 Exactly, but it isn't a decent pub or a decent bar now. The wine tastes like piss, and the food is anything but gastronomic. Strangely, Bev Simpson gave it good marks in her review in the Metro (food column), which convinced me once and for all she talks out her arse.

More of a Dolphin man I suppose. The Broadway has gone right downhill as it happens.
-
Beaconsfield, between Tynemouth and Cullercoats? I live near there, and yeah, that would probably be about right for my neighbourhood.
-
Maybe, but it's an improvement over Brazil, I'm sure you agree.
-
Do you trust Brazillian police? I bloody don't, most of them are either corrupt, crackers or both. If you get shot by a cop over there you've more likely to have caused trouble for an organised crime syndicate than for society. 65773 How unlike our own dear Capital City...................... 65776 Very unlike it. It happens here once in a blue moon, and then an investigation takes place, even if this is not always satisfactory. Murder of civilans happens in Rio every day though. I'm unsure if FootSoldier thinks this is a good idea or not however.
-
All I'm saying is I don't think you should jump to conclusions. Remember the Brazilian bloke, and all the lies that he had jumped security gates, had a backpack etc? Turned out he had done nothing wrong. Best to wait and see I think, rather than balme the wife who must be a bit upset, to say the least.
-
Your last remark is callous; even with medication he could have had difficulties. Hell, people who are pissed can act like loonys thinking its a joke etc. I don't think it's a good idea to jump to conclusions and assign blame until the whole facts are uncovered, if they ever will be. I agree that the safety of the plane should come first, but at the moment I am struggling to think of one single time the police have managed to intercept real terrorists before they have committed their acts. Hardly fills me with confidence.
