I think what's bad about the stuff from Beardsley is 1) he doesn't need the money because he's the sort of bloke who'll still have most of the money he made at Liverpool in the bank and 2) his close attachment to the club. I can't stand Ashley or Pardew for obvious reasons but they have nothing like the emotional attachment to the fans that someone like Beardsley does. There's obviously no logic to what he says either because you can either have Pardew doing a great job under very difficult circumstances, which means the owner is restricting his ability to do the job properly or you have a great owner giving the manager backing which means there's something amiss so far as how the manager is performing*. You can't have both being 'great'. Obviously. *Not saying those are the only two options, just commenting on what Beardsley said. -
I like his solo stuff and some Gong stuff too but I really love the techno/ambient stuff (which incorporates his brilliant guitar work) that he has done with his lass in System 7. Seen them a couple of times, most recently at some festival in N. Yorks about 3 years ago.

One of the best ones is where you can't smoke at a bus shelter (even a one with 3 sides open to the elements) but you can stand a foot away and it's ok

Fish is right like. You make the point about dropping butts but that's already punishable by a heavy fine and that's virtually never enforced. Probably have a alcohol ban on the parks where you take your laddie too and the same applies there too. As to the logical conclusion of things like this which you mention, i.e. only smoking in the home, I was going to make a similar point about how that's more detrimental to the health of their kids, etc. Agree about smoking in cars to the extent that people shouldn't do it but it's another one that's difficult to enforce and you shouldn't really need to legislate against that. Smoking / drinking etc. whilst pregnant / breastfeeding is worse but again I don't really think legislation would make much difference there. As with smoking in cars, the education about it as at the stage now where everybody knows the implications so it's only the absolute fucking morons who do it anyway. It smacks of popularist bollocks with little (if any) positive impact in terms of health benefits.

Not seen that but I like his blog on the beeb and the way he uses old stock footage. Will try to check those out when I have a spare hour or three.

One thing that sticks out in my mind about him is something manc-mag said when Owen was here. It was along the lines of the contempt Owen had for the club and the fans was underlined by his making absolutely no effort to say anything nice about either despite his being very media savvy. Which is why I think Owen's quite a nasty little cunt as well as being boring as fuck.

Canary Islands or Madeira maybe? Not been to the latter but the boss has a place there and it's pretty much mid-20s all the year round I think. I'd choose the resort carefully in the Canaries though as some of them are Charvsville, USA (in Tenerife and Gran Canaria anyway).

I have little doubt they're largely a bunch of cunts who deserve to die but I certainly don't buy the argument being put about by the likes of Cameron that they're a huge threat to the UK. Funny how there's money for this but not the NHS pay rise recommended by an independent body as well.

Classic moment that. Ironically it took all of the tension out of the situation as reality struck home that England weren't going to be at the World Cup (even if the goal itself had no actual impact on that).
