I guess a big part of the problem is other clubs being in the same boat. Wasn’t last January the quietest ever in terms of transfers? Since the current transfer window system began anyway I think. Previously English clubs were comfortably outspending the rest of the world. It doesn’t seem sustainable in terms of the Premier League as a ‘product’. You’d also think there will soon be enough clubs kicking up a stink to get things changed. Brighton, for example, gave built a successful model on buying well then selling on for a profit. And repeat.

I would have thought that the most convenient solution would be selling a player like Almiron to a Saudi club. No doubt the hypocrites in the media would go off it.
