I would think in this context it would be bars / food stuff that’s behind / underneath any new stand. As opposed to an alternative to match going with live streams or that sort of thing. If it’s done well then that’s a good thing for people wanting a pie/piss/pint at half time and would be better than what we have. Like you, I’d rather just go to one of the many places on walking distance before or after the match

Leazes Terrace is Grade 1 listed and Pevsner described it as, iirc, one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the country. Even Leazes Park is Grade 2 listed so there’s limitations on changing that too. I think any solution would have to leave it completely alone

First game I went to I was sat in the east stand. It’s a bit of a concrete monstrosity which you would think would be replaced at sone point. But you’re going to gain very little, if anything, in terms of extra capacity unless it became a standing area or part of it did. So it’s waaay down the list in terms of priorities

Aye. The BBC website made it out to be a 5 goal thriller but it really wasn’t. They did quite well second half but it was against a bits and pieces Fulham team who were still pretty comfortable throughout. That Clarke looks a canny player but I’ve only really seen him in this and the tie at Fulham. I like Mowbray as well but how often do you see a decent crop of youngsters do decent for a while because they’ve been given opportunities out of necessity? It’s fairly common. The fucking talk about it being their best team in 40+ years of watching them on RTG though? You’d think they’d have as good a chance as any in the playoffs like as the league seems very even outside the top two. Not that they’re a shoo in to get that far

They’ve definitely got some decent players but I thought that was a bang average match in a tepid atmosphere. It wasn’t as close as the score suggests. They conceded early and were dominated first half. It was 2-1 and 3-2 for very short periods of the game. I think where they’re really deluding themselves is the ‘model’. They’re basically being conned into thinking spending fuck all is some master plan, just because they’ve been fleeced in the past. If the young players develop as they hope they’ll likely be sold. We’ve also seen here (albeit with an owner willing to spend to avert a crisis) how you can assemble a good side through good recruitment without breaking the bank. Like the year we came fifth. But is that ‘model’ on a lower budget sustainable? I doubt it. We should definitely be looking to emulate and better their academy though
