Her husband is a pilot for United Airways - he was ill and at home. Her dad is a pilot for United Airways - He was on the runway at Logan airport in Boston waiting for takeoff to Tokyo. He was told to abandon the flight. Her brother is a pilot for United Airways - He was in Dallas on a training course. We couldn't get a phonecall through to the US for many, many days. May have been Could have been Cape Town actually as the baggage was checked straight through from Cape Town via Jo'Burg to Gatwick but I've since heard that it was most likely Jo'Burg. In my case it was only my camera and they didn't bother to dig out the battery charger. Luckily I had my laptop as hand-luggage and had uploaded thousands of photos as I'd travelled otherwise I'd have lost the lot.

Tell your youngen to never, ever, ever, EVER put small valuables such as jewellery or camera's/camcorders into checked baggage as it makes your insurance invalid if some thieving, light-fingered fucker in baggage handling decided to rob your suitcase at Johannesburg airport. Always carry them as hand luggage.
