  1. Gejon takes a bit of an unwarranted slating tbf. Everyone was a militant in the early days of the board wars as you basically picked a side and justified why you'd done so and had a good go at each other for taking the opposite path. From a personal point of view I think N-O looked daft during board wars principally (nay solely) because you had HTT going off his nut over here ever five minutes because his watered down commercial vision for the brand had gone up in smoke. However the reality will have been that we will have looked like twats to them too though, if you were one of those who shared HTT's vision. That's not an apology btw-because I didn't enjoy HTT's vision-it's just an acknowledgment we all acted in a way which doesnt apply any more because we've both settled into our own distinct and happier existences. Which brings me back to Gejon, cos although he takes a lot of flak on here for N-O (and his early modship), he can laugh at himself at the end of the day and his 'defence' of N-O is a lot more moderate and less obsessive than is made out. He's always posted here traditionally anyway.
  2. Gemmill IS the gatekeeper on here and don't pretent otherwise. Nice try. Eh? Whatchutalkinboutwillis?
  3. 36 minutes to type that Agree with most of it like, but not worried about Carroll being a flash in the pan. His effectiveness is largely down to the sheer size and power of him, something he won't lose, and he plays a relatively simple game technically. I'm convinced, if anything, he'll get even better. Not attempting to plagiarise, but I was actually going to make that very point. The fact of his size and natural strengths (big man who's actually looking increasing 'good with his feet') is what makes me think the signs are good and what makes me inclined to think he should be a top striker for years yet. Also he's not reliant on pace that will fade. The unknown quantity is whether he's going to be a professional athlete for his career or a well paid pissheed.
  4. How is Gemmill threatening to "batter" everyone with alpha male posturing btw? I must have missed that one. I know I'll just be accused of Trentpossecliquetastic but seriously, wtf? Get a grip.
  5. Well we've only got a couple days to wait to find out one way or another anyway so I'm finding it hard to get worked up about because that only really comes when you've got ages to speculate and sweat it out. If he doesn't go this window then the "Ashley will sell literally anything in sight" rhetoric will have to be put to bed once and for all at least. I know it won't, but it should. Not the same as saying he has vision and foresight but certainly a counterbalance to the more hysterical stuff that gets posted re: his transfer policy. Realistically, provided we remain below the top payers in the Prem, rumours will probably always surround our best performers every window. Unless we can manage what Tottenham have as they seem to be the only exception to this rule-they're not top payers but theyre not deemed a 'selling club' either. Probably because they manage to pay a lot in transfer fees and (comparitively) modestly in wages. For now I'm content try for an upward trajectory where we're demanding rewards from our players before we reward them though, as it's been the polar opposite of that for years and we ended up dicked over royal (inevitably) by becoming an absolute beacon of hope for millionaire mercenaries on their last legs. Fuck that for a laugh; however it was portrayed as ambitious, what they discovered on arrival (what they already knew beforehand I have no doubt) and what they brought in terms of attitude was still a far bigger insult to NUFC than looking that bit harder for the likes of Tiote and Ben Arfa and suffering the 'indignity' of only spending a couple million for them in the process. I can live with that indignity for now. On Carroll specifically it's still a bit surreal anyway because in the summer I had little hope for him even cutting it at Prem level never mind excelling. He's had a brilliant half a season but we're still in potential 'flash in the pan' territory yet, particularly given his off field existence. Talk of him being England's number 9 for a generation is premature to say the least. Obviously I hope he goes on to lead the Prem for years if he stays in a Toon top, but lets not fall into the trap of assuming that he will. The signs are good but he's a 24 hour operation in terms of management.
  6. He shouldn't stand for that and ought to make some endearingly self-deprecating response in a West Country accent.
  7. He's plainly properly emasculated sat there as the only non-footballer in a cardigan and trying to mouth it up to feel accepted. What a complete dick. To the credit of the rest of them they look totally embarrased by him and refuse to participate. Souness even motions to boot him at the end, betraying the fact he would probably like to take him outside and give him a good shoe-ing until he shut the fuck up for good.

    Cooking

Aye, it looks like you're serving up astronaut food there tbf
  9. Fuck off Keys with your gimpy head, schoolboy's body and shit faux-trendy cardigan.
  10. Theres a clear potential conflict of interest between club and manager if you're going to give your manager a percentage on sale of players as there surely must be some incentive to flog players for profit but to the detriment of the team (club). That said if the club wants to agree those very terms with it's own employee then it's entirely it's own affair.
  11. They'd just flog the remainder to some blag client for 10p if their telly money was at risk.
  12. Apart from the fact that TtMB was complete horseplop, it was a comedy which was actually about class man! So was Steptoe and Son. I think you've completely shot yourself in the foot using these examples. Also, Seinfeld didn't have his own show for the vast amount of the series, and Kramer was an unexplained enigma per se, so you haven't got a point there either. And off the top of my head, what about 'My name is Earl'? Otherwise I'm not surprised that most US characters are in line with the American dream, that's just them, isn't it? I think you've missed my point....which is Brits will watch a show about class...whatever their own class and whatever the class of those in the show. Americans won't watch poor people, whether they themselves are poor or not. Edit: My Name is Earl is a good shout to go with Everybody hates Chris. They don't become all time great shows like the 2 British examples I gave...whether you like them or not. But there are several exceptions that show you're not right about the latter point. Leazes mentioned Married with Children which is another example of a poor family. Also the Simpsons are always brassic. Your examples show that the British are less comfortable about class than Americans imo. We can laugh more easily precisley because class is entrenched in our society (or was) to a much greater degree than it is in America. If that's what you're saying, then I agree. Al Bundy was a shoe salesman with a bigger house than anyone I know. There's an episode of the Simpsons where Grimes (Grimey) dies following a rant at Homer because (while portrayed as brassic) he is clearly very well off in his 3 bedroom house, 2 cars, eating lobster, travelling to Australia, Japan, London etc. and going into space. My general point stands, many episodes of the Simpsons and MWC centred around them always being skint, desperate even, in a way that doesn't reflect my, or I suspect your, life. Anyway not having money is not directly related to class - the Americans don't have the same concept of class as we do so it's not surprising they don't reflect it in their comedies, is it? Plus Americans have a higher standard of living than us in general, that's a fact. Two cars and eating lobster is the norm for a lower middle class American. Flying into space isn't mind. Aye it's true. In 'Boyz n' the Hood', they all lived in detached houses and had ample outdoor space for barbecues.
  13. Heard a few rumours they would both treat the people behind the scenes like dirt which would tie in with the perception they love themselves. If this is true you'd wonder if someone behind the scenes had a few bits of footage lined up as payback should the chance arise. Aye, and while I had some sympathy with what Keys was saying in his interview (about having been there since the 'start' when Sky was the minor player), it was only sympathy in the sentimental sense. Like shite was he the 'pioneer' that he was trying to make out, with people 'drinking at his well'. It was always someone elses format and it was always someone elses money was at risk. You're a presenter you daft hairy bastard, if you weren't doing it someone else would be and rest assured someone else soon will be. You've picked up a decent wedge as presenter and thats your compensation, never mind all this 'pioneering' bullshit, you were there for a salary. All of their ideas came from NFL presentation, the arrows on the screen, the boot room all that bollocks, and for me often they don't work that well. Look at Andy Townsend's tactics truck, it got abused so much ITV jacked it after4 weeks. Monday Night Football as well. Btw, me Dad was telling me that it's illegal to show NFL games live in the area where the game is taking place if the match itself isn't a sell-out. Sounds massively Anti American tbh. He'll sharp sort that when he gets his Supreme Court appointment mind.

And if it had been a success, Townsend wouldn't have been the 'pioneer' that Keys was making out, he'd still just be the bent faced presenter. Unless you're actually the person responsible for bringing something genuinely new to the screen and it's your balls on the line financially, then you're not a pioneer, youre a safe little salaried presenter and you can fuck right off saying otherwise.

  16. Aye, but what side of the river are you standing on, eh? I'll thank you not to mention that. I was young and confused.
  17. Just off to ask my bank to spoof for my overdraft! That's the point though, they'd tell you to fuck off. If the above story is factually correct however Ashley actually managed to get them to do just that, effectively. Just down to clout at the end of the day I suppose, and while I think it's morally incorrect with certain suppliers, like fuck would I be arsed if an investment bank or corporate law firm lost their fees over it.
  18. I'd heard that too. I don't think he actually is btw, they just frequently make the point in the media about his IQ being high enough for entry level. Which I bet members of Mensa just love to hear every time it's trotted out.
  19. The Quayside is for tourists, hen neets and mugs. Anyone who is 10 years over the adult drinking age can surely see that? Where do you drink Stevie? Round the Central station generally, top end reasonably often. How about you? Don't go out that much nowadays, but when I do I wouldn't rule out the quayside - what's wrong with it? Quite often go to the Corwn Posada. The Forth is the only place I go to near central I think, but it's usually too busy. Sometimes I might head off to Jesmond or Ouseburn as well, or just go to Tynemouth (where I live). it's full of pretencious wanks, the ones in Newcastle are far worse than the ones in London because the majority of the ones in London have something to be pretencious about. Full of women who think they're untouchable, and very little middle ground, because it's either that or absolute common as muck stinkers. The prices of drinks generally are ridiculous too, I don't appreciate paying 40 and 50 quid a round, to be knocked from pillow to post somewhere totally wank like Offshore. I go the Quay once every 18 month max now and it's still too much, although I can tolerate the Quayside Bar on a summers neet. 'pillar' I was typing fast I was typing in Geordie.
