exactly paying over the odds when were supposedly cutting back for someone who might just get on the odd time doesn't appeal to me I'd rather pay £5 million for Warnock than roughly the same amount for a pile of shite like Riise as rumoured a couple of months back. Riise is light years ahead of Warnock. At kicking the ball really, really hard maybe. Riise was out of his depth last year and he'll be out of his depth at Roma. And great news about Collocini as well. Has there been any reported fees knocking about since we had interest reported?

I'd have Warnock. Good little player and would be competition for a place where we need some. He's English so I can see where the £5m price tag comes from.

We need to emulate Spurs and their lofty heights of 11th though. I've got to say I'm slightly worried but the news that a new signing will be here in a day has calmed me down a bit, if only because it could prove to be a real quality player that we're lacking. As said, the squad we're taking to Mallorca doesn't exactly fill me with confidence and I wouldn't mind another striker brought in because, while we should probably hang on to Smith because of the threadbare squad, outside of Owen, nobody fills me with much confidence.

Totally agree with Happy Face fwiw to the thread. The whole moral outrage because the man is vaguely famous is, well, outrageous. I'm not condoning the bloke's actions at all and I fully agree that he should come back and get his head down with his football. He's probably going to have to win a lot of people around based on both his dire performances last season and this carry-on.

He can buy players to fit his side all he likes but the fact is, they're not good enough to win you the league. It tickles me when Liverpool spend so much, only to see Arsenal romping to third with a team comprised of young players who cost a tenner and a steak bake. But, every new year is "the season for them", despite the team being stocked with more mediocrity (Voronin, Degen; I understand they cost nothing but the point still stands) and really not enough real quality to create a squad capable of winning the league. And I've heard that they're looking to sell Benayoun; heard anything about that? Because if so, I'd love to see him here because he's a quality little player with some real creative spark. I'd probably rate him better than Pennant fwiw.
