Thought it was a massive success by the standards of our recent so-called protests i.e. coffin march, feeble (and quite possibly self-serving) dissent from NUST, etc. This was a protest that actually happened, that fans supported even if they did not walk out themselves, that coincided with the fiercest dissent from home fans in years and with complimentary coverage from local and national press. The message has been sent, not by patchy groups of our fans, but by all of them (barring the contrary cunt on here who would argue up was down if the majority gave the opposite opinion.) Pretty sure Pardew got the message loud and clear. Ashley did as well - what he's going to do about it remains the question. I'd say probably nothing, which would then prompt some to question what the point of protesting is if it's unlikely to change anything. I don't know, but it's better than paying good money to see the utter garbage we've been served up this season, and the idea of our fans getting organised against him might actually cause the fat one a little distress, if he starts thinking about ST renewals. We'll wait and see.

Meanwhile, CT was crying for Pardew's head last season while others advocated patience. How could anyone think this season is an improvement or that Pardew deserves more time? We had a good run at the start of the year with our best player playing himself into a move (and the WC) and a player we don't even own bagging some good goals. Since January literally everything has gone to shit. The football has been diabolical, far worse than even last year's tripe. We would be relegated if the league started on New Year's Day. Now, much of that blame has to go to the fat one for not strengthening the squad (and no NUFC fan is slow to blame Ashley when he needs blaming) but the abominable run we've been on is not down to Fat Mike or the players, it's down to Pardew's embarrassing antics, shite tactics, arselicking attitude, and horrific team selections. There's no future for him at this club, whether we spend 5 pounds or 500 million pounds.

Talk is cheap (astonishingly cheap for the bullshit merchants we have running the club.) I can't think of any other owner in the league who'd be prepared to sanction a major spending spree and decide that Alan Pardew was the man he trusted to manage those new players. US history in this country is an exercise in self-delusion. Textbooks whitewash it to such a degree that it's ludicrous. I shudder to think how America's history is taught in the 46 states between NY and CA, but luckily we're progressive in New York, and I also have the advantage of teaching mostly immigrants (something like 96% of our school is kids from the Dominican Republic, with the other 4% black - no white kids at all in our 600-strong school) so I'm getting kids who haven't already been brainwashed into thinking Andrew Jackson was a hero or that America has always been a champion of democracy (tell that to Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Nicaragua, Haiti, etc before even getting into the modern era.) Kids here take 2 years of US in middle school (grades 7 and 8), one more in high school (grade 9), and 2 years of global history in 10 and 11 before a class on economics and government in grade 12.

As I'm a history teacher, this is kind of my thing. I love the feudal period of Europe but my real passion is the history of the Ottoman Empire. I spent my honeymoon in Istanbul (somewhere you must see before you die) and was amazed by how well preserved both the Byzantine and Ottoman structures and legacy are there. My day job is teaching U.S. history, however. Not my passion but interesting enough, I suppose.
