I agree that the converse go well with shorts like. The Fred Perry's though, I'm not convinced. For a start Fred Perry aren't a trainer maker and, secondly, they are just plain plimsoles with a Fred Perry badge stitched on. I just don't like trainers done by brands who are more clothing brands (Fred Perry, Lacoste, Hugo Boss etc). That said, I recently purchased some blue suede loafers which rather invalidates my opinion when it comes to shoes!

Those Fred Perry's are like the £2 trainers schoolkids used to wear for PE in the 80s.

Cruyff trainers are pretty nice, go well with jeans. A bit more expensive than normal trainers but not by much.

In terms of bodies in for the first team squad does anyone know how likely Vuckic and Kadar are to step-up? I must admit to knowing very little about these two but maybe some of you who are regular reserve team watchers have seen (I appreciate they both had fairly long term injuries last season) more of them. It would be good to see more of the youngsters coming through but, obviously, only if they are good enough. The likes of Ferguson never disgraced himself when he got the chance but he is still probably a year or two away from being a regular first teamer.

Have only done cowies a few times as most of my mates are boozers and I tend to stick to the drink. I think I know how this Neil Taylor thing will pan out. He'll desperately want to sign for Everton but we'll offer him £70k a week (so flippant are we currently with our wage bill) so he'll begrudgingly join us. I'd be interested to know if the people who prefer Batty are doing this on the basis of his contribution to Newcastle. As people have rightly noted, his ball retention was excellent and he was good player in his specific role. However, I think he was far more effective at Leeds and Blackburn than he was at Newcastle as I think his style of play slowed us down and made us less effective. I thought we lost some of our urgency after he joined.

I didn't think they let you on the net at your new place.... Batty was always breaking up our forward movements by knocking the ball backwards and sideways. It Tiote keeps it up next season, he wins hands down. Have to use the iPhone these days. Agreed regarding Mr T. If he continues this season's form into next, comparing Tiote to Batty will be like comparing Shearer to Cordone.

Was never a big fan of Batty and can't remember any incisive through balls. Always thought of him as a sideways passer. I think he had a negative effect on the team in that he seemed to slow us down and stop our momentum going forward. I think in the holding role he was a good player but not suitable for the team we were at the time.

Dyer was one of the most gifted players we've ever had when he was fit. His finishing wasn't great though. Wonder what value a 20 year old Scholes would be worth now. He really wasn't. He could run fast with the ball but he couldn't shoot from distance, finish from close range or pass a ball more than 10 yards. Add that to the fact he had glass legs and an alleged habit of drugs/gang bangs/WWF shows and he was probably the biggest waste of wages we have had at the club in a long time. Cemented by the fact that he has managed 15 starts in West Hams last 152 league games. Don't agree. I always thought we looked a different team with Dyer in it, he made a big difference. We played with a lot more urgency with him in the team, he also linked brilliantly with Solano. He was a waste of money as he never played anywhere near enough but I thought he was a class player, albeit an utter knob.

As someone mentioned, Orwell wrote more than one good book. 'Down and out in Paris and London' and 'Homage to Catalonia' are both brilliant. I also love 'Coming up for air' and 'Keep the aspidistra flying', he seems to have a real understanding of human nature. I think I read somewhere that he was once taught by Huxley but that he was more influenced by Zamatin 'We' (which I found hard work') than BNW. I just can't get into Huxley's stuff as easily as I can Orwell's.

I worked on 42nd street regularly for 2 years as my boss/company HQ was based there. I used to stay in the W on Lexington and walk to work. Amazing energy and so different to travelling to work in London (or Paris). Its mainly the impact of the environment on you, the enormity of the architecture, the slickness of the design, the people, the bars, the shops, the restaurants, the women, the craziness of life lived as fast as life is lived on the planet. Manhattan is for youngish people though, everyone goes out after work too, i think everyone moves to Brooklyn when they have kids. My best mate got married in Central Park, he lived there for 6 months building up contacts in the music industry. We've had some legendary weekends but the one where we both played in this club near NYU and ended up in a ketamine party in a loft in Tribeca was pretty classic. The same weekend i pulled an Italian bird who loved it in the wrongun (catholic). The possibilities there are literally endless and yanks are quite odd when it comes to meeting people, if you've had an introduction you are welcome to hang out. Agree with all that, it a pretty unique place. Worked in NYC for 2 years when I was 23/24. Lived on 50th and 9th and worked on 42nd and 7th. Each day was a massive experience, I got a buzz as soon as I left the apartment. Was single when I was over there so had a belting time. I'd say it's more a place to experience rather to go sightseeing as I can't really put my finger on what made it so great for me. I go back once or twice a year and I'm giddy every time I land. That said, 2 years was enough for me. Far prefer the pace of life and outlook of the people in European cities but, for a short trip, nothing beats it.

I agree with Holden McGroin, I'd go as far to say this about Dalglish, he did more damage to Newcastle, than Souness, Ashley and Allardyce put together. His reign was a catastrophe, and it took us years to recover from his mis-management and poor decision making. Absolutely spot on, all of that. He ruined us and then had the cheek to fuck us over for compensation. What do you make of this dippers comparison between Keegan and Dalglish In terms of what they did at Newcastle, there is simply no comparison. The change Keegan brought about was nothing short of remarkable when you consider the state we were in/had been in for many of years before he took over. For me, Kevin Keegan is the best thing to have happened to this club in my lifetime. Equally, the manner in which Dalglish dismanted all of Keegan's good work was nothing short of remarkable.

I donno if it's still there like but there was one about 10 years ago between The White Horse at Parsons Green, and Dawes Road, on Munster Road ran by Greeks absolutely superb, but you're right everywhere else is fuckin shite. Long way to go for you from Croydon to Fulham just for a decent fish and chips. Broadly agree but there are still some good ones. Masters Super Fish on Waterloo Road and Happy Days by Aldgate are both very good.
