I just hope we mark Gerrard this time. The amount of space he had when we played them earlier in the season was a joke. It was like a parting of the waves whenever he got the ball.

Went to Argentina last month. Saw River Plate v San Martin which was absolutely mental, the best atmosphere in a match I've ever been to. The atmosphere at River is supposed to be tame relative to Boca. Boca v River must be absolutely superb.

How can someone out of contract in a month be an 'immovable'? tit! Geremi, Viduka, and Owen will all be out of contract right? I think that is (rather unbelievably) a saving of around £200k per week or £10m per year.

Smee again? His best one yet.

Very true. I'll go for Bassong Beye Jonas or Enrique Regarding crap signings, I can't believe that Alan Smith hasn't been given more of a mention. Maybe he's been been off some people's radars since Where's Wally Nolan signed.

Cracking player, was always going to take a little while to settle, would have made a big difference to us.

on a lighter note. your favourite ever toon player?
Billy Whitehurst replied to tinofbeans's topic in Newcastle Forum
Paul Gascoigne. Beardsley is my second favourite. -
Jesus wept, how fucking shit are we? Not an ounce of quality on show. Also, we are so fucking slow. If we can't score against that Portsmouth team at home then I don't see where the points are going to come from. Looked like we gave up in the last half hour too. I wish I could share other people's optimism but we just don't have the quality or heart to get the results we need.

He certainly got the best out of Kevin Davies. I wouldn't class him as a footballer but he is very effective. That's what Allardyce does, takes dross and makes it effective, he's good at that but it's shite to watch. Can you honestly tell me that anyone would pay to watch Kevin Davies?

Mmm... I love the smell of sour grapes.. Fact is, you lot haven't had the decency to give ANYONE a proper go at running your club since that tawdry business with Sir Bobby Robson - despite the passion evident within your fan base, the people who run the upstairs couldn't give a flying fart for the football club, except when it occasionally threatens to do well: at which point all the oily barstewards come out to bask in the reflected glory. So it doesn't really matter what you say about our current manager, your track record (in fact your long history) is one of no success, no continuity, no strategy for change and no chance of doing any better until you choose the right management team and stick by them through the inevitable thick and thin that is football for more than the time it takes to re-seed your over-rated dosy pitch. The rottenness of NUFC is plain for all to see, from top to bottom and there is no way that even ALS himself can do anything to change that in the short term. So if I were you, I'd save my energy for getting behind your ragbag of overpaid / undertalented 'stars' and hanging onto your bollux for the next three weeks as you either fade weakly into Premiership history or roar proudly into the possibilities of another season in the top flight. Personally I would like to think your team has the conjones to survive and to become a real force again, but then again, what do I know - a Rovers fan all my life and a football referee for 23 years! Good luck this evening, you bad tempered geordie girl. I fail to see how that backs your argument up. There is a huge difference between knowing the rules of the game and actually understanding football.

Sadly, I'm inclined to agree with a lot of the stuff the two Blackburn lads have posted. We are, and have been, a shambles for years. I'm really hoping that this season is a line in the sand and that in coming seasons we will have stability, ship out the overpaid wasters and bring in a squad who want to play for the club with the right winning mentality, not just the 'feck it, I'll be paid £60k a week, no matter what' mentality. I won't hold my breath. That said, regarding Fat Sam, I think he's a total one trick pony who will do very well at any club willing to sacrifice football for a place in the Premier League. The football his sides produce shouldn't be allowed on before the watershed.

No need for a knee-jerk decision. Don't even consider making a decision until you've had at least eight pints of premium strength lager.

Presumably she means getting them relegated. They were in all sorts of bother just before he left.

Top Ten: Worst signings of the season
Billy Whitehurst replied to Douggy B's topic in Newcastle Forum
Extremely harsh on Jonas. However, the mention of Nolan was entirely justified. -
Have you thought about going travelling? Instead of the slog of trying to find work in this market you could be off experiencing other countries and culture instead of being miserable in the UK. Hopefully, by the time you get back, the job market will have picked up, you'll have had a great experience and will have done something you'll remember for the rest of your life. Good chance of me getting the boot in the next few months so that's what I'll be doing.

The jury has spoken lads! LOL

Just clicked on those links for the GG forum, some of the chat is desperate. I can see why Danny spends so much time on here. -
And another thread is reduced to a discussion about attendances. Feels like Groundhog Day.

He's a fucking carthorse man. He does make forward runs but he doesn't look like getting on the end of anything. He then takes an eternity to get back down the other end of the pitch when the move breaks down. I'm far from Danny Guthrie's biggest fan but he has got to be a better option than Nolan.
-
Very true. Pretty much sums up how we ended up with R Taylor (part-exchange), Lovenkrands (out of contract) and Nolan (going backwards at Bolton) in the last transfer window.
-
Is it though? Maybe if they are on nack all wages but with thats not our case? Keeping someone like Barton who will be on £30k+ a week surley wont have a load of interest because of his baggae. Soooo, would you keep him or accept £2m for him? I would accept £2m if I was honest. £30+k a week for a Championship player is financial suicide! Getting rid of these players is easier said than done. Not many clubs are going to match the wages that the likes of Duff, Butt, Smith and Barton get at the moment. If they don't submit a transfer request and are sold then I think we would have to pay up their contract or subsidise their wages at a different club, much in the the same way that Leeds were doing with Danny Mills up until recently. It comes down to whether we want to subsidise these players to play for another club or not. As Matt pointed out, a transfer request would solve this as I think that they would then forgo loyalty payments and what not. However, given how much desire these lads have shown this season something tells me that money is more a driving force than football.

No need for a banning, he's harmless and nothing he says is terribly offensive. Also, if you are allowing some of his rank patter to wind you up then you really need to have a word with yourself. Besides, whether it was intended as a wind-up or not, I see no problem with the Fire Sale thread he started today, far better discuss that than some of the nonsense arguments going on over in the General threads.

The rumours are that Taggart is after Hutton for right back.
-
It will come down to whether other Premier League or foreign clubs will actually want any of our players. I can see there being interest in Bassong, Martins, Jonas, Enrique, S Taylor, Beye and Colo with Viduka and Owen not having their contracts renewed. The rest are all Championship standard albeit on ridiculous Premier League wages. The thought of Butt and Nolan plodding around in the centre of our midfield in the Championship is just too depressing to contemplate.

Was also on 'Loose Women' (I, erm, switched on to it by mistake, honest!) the other day. He seemed to be a lot better.
