1. I did a few summers at the exam board in Westerhope (now lying vacant) checking that the examiners had added up the numbers correctly. Tedious stuff, the highlight being when you got an exam paper written by a psyco.. For example... "What is the sum of 6 and 4? I don't care you C**nts." My work experience was a week of filing at some pharmaceutical firm in Denton, that was absolute garbage. It's a pointless thing unless the company give you a small amount of responsibility..
2. Booked for Frankfurt... £29 return from Stansted.. I can't wait to see the dangly telly....
3. Interesting take on the England centre-midfield from Anal.... Captain ScottSep 28 2006 By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Newcastle United's man of the moment Scott Parker is in line to win a recall by England for the two European championship games with Macedonia and Croatia. The Chronicle has been informed that Steve McClaren has been so impressed with the United's skipper's performances that he saw him turn in against Liverpool and Everton that he plans to include Parker in his squad for the game with Macedonia a week on Saturday and the trip to Croatia to four days later. But the only threat to this is that Parker, who spent the close season recovering from glandular fever, is absolutely exhausted as United come to the end of a spell of seven games in 23 days. This is the reason Parker will probably only be on the bench in tonight's UEFA Cup first round proper second leg tie with Levadia Tallinn at St James' Park, giving another England international, Nicky Butt, a start. Parker arrived at St James' Park with two England caps and it has been a source of annoyance among United fans that he has not added to these. This is because, from the moment he first pulled on a black-and-white shirt on in a Premiership match against Arsenal at Highbury at the start of last season, he has been absolutely outstanding. Now with Owen Hargreaves and Neil Lennon both injured and David Beckham yesterday's man, the way is clear for Parker to return to the international stage in the next fortnight, providing he can drag his weary bones on to the plane. McClaren ran the rule over Parker in the pre-season friendly with Villarreal at St James' Park and had the Peckham-born midfielder watched against Fulham in his battle with Jimmy Bullard. To be fair, just when Bullard appeared to be getting the upper hand that day he dislocated his kneecap in a tackle with Parker and he will be out for another couple of months. But McClaren saw both United's games with Liverpool and Everton and I hear he could not have been more impressed with the United skipper who has taken over Alan Shearer's armband with such pride and passion. Parker has had Emre at his shoulder this season and I must say that the pair of them have literally run themselves into the ground in United's cause. Glenn Roeder could have rested either tonight but Emre will get a fortnight's break because his six-match international suspension is for competitive matches only and he cannot play again for Turkey until next year. Damien Duff, who missed Sunday's draw with Everton at St James' Park will have to play some part tonight or at Manchester United on Sunday or United will not exactly be happy to see him go off and play for the Republic of Ireland in their Euro qualifier with Cyprus in Nicosia a week on Saturday, and with the Czech Republic in Dublin the following Wednesday. Stephen Carr is in the Irish squad and so too is his United colleague Alan O'Brien who has been sidelined with a groin injury. The speedy left winger is not match fit and it is touch and go whether he will link up with the Irish squad on Monday. Steven Taylor is considering nothing but victory as Newcastle attempt to book their place in the UEFA Cup group stage tonight. "The first thing in our minds is to win the game, it is as simple as that," the defender said. "It does not matter how we win the game as long as we come away in the next round. "This club is massive and we need to be in this sort of competition." Newcastle missed out on Europe altogether last season, and only qualified for the UEFA Cup this time around by way of the much-maligned Intertoto Cup. However, Taylor is relishing the chance to fight for European glory on again after having to sit by and watch derby rivals Middlesbrough make it all the way to the final at the end of the 2005-06 campaign. He said: "We did well a couple of years ago and against Sporting Lisbon - maybe we were unlucky. "I thrive on opportunities to play against the best. It is great for the fans and the football club as well."
4. From what I've seen I would say he is quicker than Bellamy without the ball, but significantly slower than Bellamy with the ball. I don't think Bellamy would have got to the ball against Talinn that lead to the goal
5. Wasn't Paul Huntingdon at Plymouth on loan? Anyone know what happened?
6. Went to watch Reading v City on Monday night and he is a dreadful footballer. He defends like Boumsong except when he makes a mistake he doesn't get punished, he's leading a charmed life...
7. I would tend to agree however this sounded like Nobby had had a few drinks and once he'd got started then he just didnt stop ranting! If you'll permit me to name-drop for a moment. My Dad was talking to Steve Harmison recently (he knows him quite well through a mutual friend). He was doing some training again with NUFC recently and he said several players were coming up to him and telling him about how things at the club were a shambles. He didn't even ask them, they just told him. I also got the feeling on Saturday that, Parker apart, the team isn't exactly playing for Roeder. Either that or we're shite I'd ted to go for the last one there like You and your bears man. I think its clear all aint rosey. If we sold Zog there would be riots. I did read somewhere though that Emre might be off in the winter. Also read in a few places today that Milner wants off - but I fully expected that. It wouldn't surprise me if Emre didn't play for us come the winter... Much like last season!!!
8. Sounds like knackers to me. Can't see Nobby pouring private club business to some dude he bumped into in a boozer.
9. And he was doing so well.... When was that back in 1989 United stick together as Rossi jets outSep 12 2006 By Alan Oliver and Lee Ryder, The Evening Chronicle Glenn Roeder kept his Newcastle United squad together by taking on-loan striker Giuseppe Rossi on the plane for Thursday's UEFA Cup tie with Levadia in Estonia. Sir Alex Ferguson decided that he did not want his young striker to become cup-tied by playing in Europe while on loan at St James' Park in case he is needed by Manchester United in the Champions League in the New Year. Before flying to Tallinn, Roeder told me today: "Obviously Seppe cannot play for us in the UEFA Cup at the moment, but I thought it was important to get him involved and he will train with us across there on Wednesday and Thursday. "He went on as a substitute against Fulham with only a couple of practice matches behind him and he will feel the benefit of being away with us this week." Roeder also kept left-backs Celestine Babayaro and Olivier Bernard with his squad even though neither will play against Levadia. Babayaro is still troubled with the hamstring injury which forced him off at half-time at Villa Park a fortnight ago. And Bernard, who is short of match fitness, got 71 minutes under his belt last night as a United second string won 4-2 at Berwick Rangers. The United boss said: "With three games in seven days I am looking to juggle and rotate my squad and I feel that we have enough in the squad we have got to do this." Roeder will have to decide whether or not to play Shola Ameobi as the striker was clearly not 100% match fit against Fulham on Saturday and the United boss has to balance whether to give him another game or give his never-ending hip problem a rest. If Ameobi does not play, Roeder does have the option of handing French Under-21 international Antoine Sibierski his first start in a black-and-white shirt as he can play both up front and in midfield. Meanwhile, Lee Clark says that Olivier Bernard is making good progress as he bids to reach full match fitness. The Toon coach has been looking after the reserves since Tommy Craig stepped down last week and was in the dug-out for a 4-2 friendly win over Berwick Rangers last night. Clark said today: "Olivier did well and it was always the manager's intention to give him 70 minutes or so to help him get back to the required fitness levels. "He did pick up a knock before we took him off after 71 minutes." Goals from Andy Carroll, Matty Pattison, Phil Cave and James Troisi were enough to see off the Border side at Shieldfield Park. United's reserve game with Wigan tomorrow night at Kingston Park is off.
10. 1. Still at work cos I took 3 hours off this morning, so need to make up the hours. 2. Am going through a bit of a health kick. 3. Am seriously considering going camping/cycling tomorrow (as part of #2) 4. Have realised that Toonraider has the same t-shirt as my missus and she mistakenly thinks hers is original too. 5. Will shortly be logging onto monster.com (you should never stop looking)
11. 190611 So you don't think our major priority was replacing Alan Shearer, and even Bellamy - as he hasn't been replaced or hadn't been, as Owen is out for a season ? Are you saying we should have bought a defender and spent the whole of the season playing with Luque, Ameobi and maybe Milner up front ? I think the club HAVE prioritised, they knew we needed 2 forwards, minimum. The fact that no money is left to replace Babayaro, with someone better, is the fault of the previous manager, who's legacy will take more than 8 months to recover from. 190634 I think the no money line is a load of shit. If Roeder knew he couldn't afford the three 'pole position' players (presumably Huth/Bridge/Viduka) then he should never have told the press that he was in pole position to get them, I can't imagine for the life of me that he thought he would get them all for free. So either Roeder is spouting a load of shite, or there is absolutely no communication between manager and board. And if as I suspect that the two of them were so busy phoning Willy McKie to realise that Huth was signing for the Boro and the other two weren't available, it is entirely there own fault that they hadn't identified replacements. My own theory is that Shepherd thought he would gamble and try and get some cheap 'closing down sale' bargains and it has backfired grandly.... Even Leazes must admit that the waiting until the end of the window game is becoming a bit of a common habit.
12. He has a little dig at the Willie Mc link... Is Willy McKie who he means when he spouts another of his favourite lines... "Glenn Roeder and Freddie Shepherd have been using all of their worldwide contacts"
13. In Reading they are changing the collection so that recycling/normal rubbish rotate week to week. We got big recycling wheelie bins to make sure there was enough room. Seems like a good idea, however I have good intentions but am a bit lazy when it comes to seperating the rubbish. Sure I'll adapt though..
14. United get their man at lastAug 24 2006 By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Newcastle United have tied up the £10m signing of Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins - and are hoping to introduce him to the St James' Park crowd at tonight's UEFA Cup second qualifying round second-leg tie with FK Ventspils. This is subject to the Nigerian-born striker passing a medical on Tyneside this afternoon after he arrived in Newcastle from Italy in a private plane at lunch-time today. The United party and Martins flew in from Rome after they had travelled from Milan so that the striker could pick up a visa, and word was flashed back to Freddy Shepherd and Glenn Roeder that everything was in order. Presuming Martins does come through his medical, then the only obstacle to him being in a black-and-white shirt against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday is his international clearance. United cannot apply for this until the whole transfer is completed and after that it's in the hands of the Italians. If Martins is introduced to the crowd tonight then he will get a fantastic reception - but I hope the fans do not forget Roeder. Roeder and Shepherd have kept their nerve in waiting for what they see as the right man, and in between all the transfer negotiations the manager has still guided United to nine wins and two draws in his last 11 competitive games. This is quite an achievement bearing in mind the players he has had available. Roeder switched from his original plan to watch Sunday's opponents Aston Villa last night, sending his No 2 Kevin Bond to Villa Park to see Martin O'Neill's side beat a 10-man Reading 2-1. Instead, Roeder and Terry McDermott headed for Teesside and saw Middles-brough's tremendous comeback to beat Chelsea 2-1. But the United pair must have had mixed feelings, as the man they were watching most, Wayne Bridge, had a good enough match despite the champions letting in water at the end. Indeed, this prompted Jose Mourinho to pose the question in the after-match Press conference: "Who needs Ashley Cole when Wayne Bridge is playing so well?" So the cat and mouse game between Chelsea and Arsenal over Cole continues, and all United can do is wait for the outcome in their bid to bring Bridge to St James' Park. Meanwhile, there is a feeling in Denmark that Celtic are now favourites ahead of United to snap up Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen at a bargain £2m transfer fee. However, there is no doubt in my mind that the Danish international would prefer Tyneside to Glasgow, especially as Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is saying that Gravesen's demands would smash through Celtic's wage barrier. And I wonder, with money still tight at St James' Park, whether Roeder would be prepared to sacrifice Gravesen if he could bring in Chelsea's German central defender Robert Huth. His reporting gets more and more like Springers final thought!!!
15. I had a little think and I can't think of a single chant for this man, unless you want to rhyme broon and toon.
16. Is it just me or does it seem to take us an absolute eternity to sort out any transfer?
17. Knackers to that I'm gettng our of Reading for the weekend to avoid the bloody thing
18. First game seen at SJP was Newcastle Under 19's v Watford Under 19's in about 86 (ish). Think it was the semi-final of the Youth Cup. Gazza and Joe Allon both played. First proper game was sometime in 89 I think. All I remember was John Anderson got a given a car, I was baffled why footballers who earn a lot of money were handed free cars...
19. Almost my entire extended family are mackems. However only my dad remains the rest had the good sense to get out of there 30-40 years ago. Still have to go there and see my old man on accasions, thankfully he lives in a decent area but the whole town depresses me. Went to university there and had an Asian lecturer who lived in S'land but point blank refused to go out there after being abused. Most students won't go into town on a weekend. The place has one HUUGGE inferiority complex.
20. I think that it's nice to see the website finally seems to be run by humans rather than automotrons.
21. Had something of a movie-laden weekend. Watched: Wedding Crashers - Quite Funny, If you like Vince Vaughn, you'll like it. Manchurian Candidate - Not great, pretty complicated. Nacho Libre - Fart gags and Jack Black
22. Watch it... that was my degree at the said same village of the damned based university.. Ted Maul, it's a good course, I endured about 3 nights out there in 3 years. You can choose to specialise in TV, radio or print. The shorthand was a voluntary course when I was there. I somehow came out with a 2:1 and 70 WPM
23. I think you are right, but I'm not sure if there was ever a first choice replacement for Big Al, which is a little worrying. But I was never particularly excited about the prospect of Kuyt arriving at SJP, having seen him at the world cup i've got to say that he was pretty unimpressive. He's clearly scored a lot of goals in the Dutch league, but I'm not wholly convinved he was right for us and will make it in the prem.
