Glasgow mag and Amy Winehouse in the same day ! And it's lottery night too...... surely we couldn't be that lucky?

Ok then, he's had two short spells as first choice keeper ........... in 14 years! The point still remains! You keep a goalkeeper of Given's calibre out of the side and there's only one certainty. He'll be out the door very quickly. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Arsenal sniffing around...
-
Definitely done nowt wrong and unfortunately should still be dropped tbh. Damned right - you play the best man for the role and that is undoubtedly Given. Just because Harper has done nothing wrong doesn't mean he is entitled to keep playing until he does - that's fucking ludicrous!!! TBF even if Harper doesn't make the mistake we're suggesting he will, he still won't play to the standard of Given. I've seen Harper concede goals before that weren't his fault but that I was pretty certain Given would have stopped. This is the difference for me. It's not that Harper is some sort of comedy keeper like Paul Robinson, it's just that he can't quite pull of the saves that the very best keepers can. And since we have a keeper who can make those saves it makes complete sense to play him. You can feel sorry for Harper when he gets dropped but letting that cloud your decision is just as bad as playing players simply because they are the bigger name and gets you nowhere in football. In some respects yes but, apart from a short time under Gullit's reign, Harper has never been the first choice keeper at SJP and has had countless opportunities to move on but has chosen to remain as our backup keeper.

I'd argue that Harper isn't 'on form' he just hasn't had a howler in the time he's been playing - BIG difference IMO. None of the games he's played have I thought he's been outstanding and made me sit up and take notice. Had he'd given a 'match winning' performance, then i'd see a case for keeping him in.

Craig replied to Smooth Operator's topic in General Chat
Rob W will have done this countless times... -
Earl of Durham side is being coached by Cram? That'll be a team full of ex-Mackems then...

Bet Gemmill thought it was gonna be another "...... has croaked it" thread.

When I was in my final year at Uni, I shared a house with the bloke who provides the web space for this site. He can't stand spiders and we were sat in the lounge soon after we moved in (about this time of year) watching a film and he was lying on the carpet, half asleep. Out of the corner of his eye he spots 2 house spiders of about the size of the ones i took a photo of scurrying across the carpet towards him at speed..... Did he move? Well imagine the scene in Tom and Jerry when Tom's owner catches sight of Jerry and gets up on a stool and you wouldn't be far off!

Do you live in England???
-
No Gemmill?? Thought it'd have been a dead cert tbh
-
and you know this how ?? Because I get shedloads of them like that on the rose bushes by my living room window. In a week or so there's frigging millions of midget spiders crawling around and this one has lost all its size.

Getting back to that one Boyo posted - it's not big, it's just pregnant.

I thought he'd been in the U21s before? Given the thread I was with Laz and thinking it was for the senior squad...

Dan you really are a miserable shit, aren't you? just being realistic. do you see us getting anything there? i don't, especially now they've done away with replays - and our recent history at penalty shootouts. this competition is our best chance of silverware. we're unlucky to get such a difficult away tie in the third round. i can't see us progressing tbh. Yep I do. Our defence is solid and I think Sam will set out ot frustrate them. Combine that with the fact that Wenger will play the kids and I can see us sneaking the odd goal.

after Leicester and Birmingham, where next ? Liverpool, Bradford, Newcastle ? What are you going to do if its Newcastle, and what will happen if they want to impose muslim laws it's the logical outcome and if you can't see that then youre the thick cunt Live his life as he always has as nothing has changed has it?
-
Don't know about Chelsea's quality mind. Agreed, I think they started to go off the boil last season and are continuing to do so. The title's Liverpool's for the taking IMO and if it happens, I'll never hear the end of it

couldn't really care less tbh. I have mates from all cultures. Do I judge them by the colour of their skin or their race? Do I fuck!!!! It's people like you who maintain a 'siloed' society....

Don't agree with that - it might make it not look as 'pretty' but the effect it would have on the atmosphere would be tremendous.
-
Whilst I agree with the sentiment that the atmosphere is not the same as it was in the days of terracing, I do wonder how they'd set about doing it. Surely it'd be a 'new ground' thing only? SJP for instance has been totally transformed for seating only (i'm talking about the underlying infrastucture of the stadium) and it's not simply a case of tearing up the seats and letting people stand. With that in mind, they have to carefully consider any action they take. Although I miss terracing, I think the world has moved on and it won't come back. They can't risk having another Hillsborough which we all know wasn't a failure of the stadium but of the policing. They couldn't guarantee that they'd get the policing right in future so they changed the other factor. I don't agree. When people here the bring back terracing argument they think its all or nothing. What should happen is for grounds to be able to have small terracing sections for those people who want it. If it is small enough pockets in the right area and with the right design there is no chance of another hillsborough. That's the main problem - the 'right' design will likely not be cost effective for the return of terracing. The amount of research into how to get it right and make the chance of a repeat of what happened as low as possible (we can never say there'd be no chance of a repeat) would be immense. I'd love to see it come back, sadly I just don't see it happening.
