  1. Over their whole careers then of course Bobby will rightly be hailed as the better manager, his trophy record around europe sees to that. But quite simply would any Newcastle fan rather re-live the Robson years over the Keegan years, i can't believe anyone would as the Keegan years were the happiest i have ever seen NUFC fans, people were counting the days till the match came round and loved almost every minute of his time here. As neither won a trophy here sadly, then what else is their to guage who was best here other than which of the two times you'd prefer to go back to/see happen again. Theres little point in arguing what eaither would have done with the others resources or arriving at the time the other did because they didn't and we'll never know either way what they might have done. I think we'd all have been happy and the club so much better off had Bobby come straight after Keegan instead of Dalglish and then Gullit but sadly that didn't happen!
  2. Agree, though as usual i'll be ignoring the story as the papers write any old shit and wait and see if SIb has indeed asked for any particular number of years and if the club have 0offered anything yet. Basically i'm happy for him to get 1 year and if he wants 2 years then he can try elsewhere and see if he can find a better deal. And as you say if he had another good year he may even sneak a final year here after that.
  3. The hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiills are alive with the sound of spawny bastards crowing about their time off for the next 72 hours. (Doesn't scan as well as the original, granted) 72 hours is nowt, i'm not back to work until Tue 27th this month! I'm not going to see the sound of music however!

    Lost

She's not even close to the kid playing Damien in the later episodes of Only Fools and Horses, he needed a good kicking not a slap!
  5. Didn't even realise i'd put that in there! Bet you've used that one before. Ooh matron!

  7. Neither do I, in principal. But when frustration turns into abuse I think referees should act. Football players are grown men, not little children. You don't see Michael Vaughan screaming 'what was that you cock' when he gets a dodgy LBW decision. Not sure it's a valid comparison due to the relative speeds at which decisions are made, and the games themselves are played. If football was more leisurely and decisions were made after a few seconds, then I doubt there would be the same level of frustration. Another nonsense explanation to excuse the vile behaviour of footballers. Many fast bowlers charge in, bowl the ball at 90mph into the pads then instantly turns to the umpire and appeal. Many times the umpire will instantly say not out, despite it looking plumb. Yet despite the 'speed at which the decision is made', the bowler still manages to avoid questioning the parentege of the umpire. Agree with that. There is absolutely no excusing the behaviour of some of the complete cocks who play football when compared to other sportsman. In sports like cricket and rugby, from day one as kids they are taught to respect the officials and the officials will also do their job of stamping down on any dissent if it should arrise. In football the players from day one act like spoilt brats and carry that through their careers, but ultimately the refs could stop it within weeks if they wanted and they never do. All it needs is for all refs to start dishing yellows out every time there is any dissent, and make sure they do it to the worst offenders usually found at the big teams (one of the main reasons refs won't do it and why the problem remains) and when the suspensions start hitting home managers will suddenly start making their playes shut their gobs.
  8. Now listening to One Track Lover! Cheers Johnny!
  9. Todd Rivers and Dean Learner don't forget! Best song in this thread! It's the full version as well with the extra verses.... yes I was sad enough to rip it from the DVD. "SHE'S SMOOOOOTH LIKE ICE!" If you could send it to me marra i'd be eternally grateful Wouldn't mind a copy of it myself!

  11. You can't say that, Henry is the perfect angellic face of the premiership who never does wrong and everything he does is the bestest ever! He certainly would never dive, or taunt goalkeepers who have just let a goal in or anything like that!!!
  12. Perhaps in Britain, but over here the NBA and NFL are becoming dreadful. It's a trend across the board, IMO. It's not something that can continue to go on unchecked, and will reach a point where it will blow up in some fashion and force people to deal with it. I'm surprised, when i see NFL on tv there doesn't seem to be much of a problem and i thought it had always been good for such behaviour! Football will always be the worst though, its ingrained in the game!
  13. You could say he was fussy, but he was consistent and it was clear to both teams he wouldn't tolerate any "descent" so you only had yourself to blame for a booking after the first one. I had no problem with him, so he must have been allright! Football is about the only sport that really needs to sort this kind of shit out, but it never will. Look at the prem, the worst offenders (especially for mass dissent) are nearly always the top teams and the refs just bottle it every time and so it never changes.
  14. I think the Sib has done a great job (not sayign he's a great player!) and would deserve a 1 year extension to fill in as a squad player then leave after that with thanks. His goal scoring has been impressive, often crucial goals and goals not just scored at the end of a comfortable win. He's worked hard and tried to lead the line and has a few assists as well with flick ons and well weighted passes. I like the bloke and would be happy to see him stay a year because we will get injuries, but he should only be a squad player. Shola also deserves some praise under Roeder as he has been scoring at about 1 in 2 which is impressive, and he was moslty crocked with the hip injury through alot of that. Since we need to spend money on some fullbacks and other positions if we have a fit Owen and Martins, then you can get by with Dyer/Shola and Sib as cover and spend the money elsewhere.
  15. They certainly should have asked him beforehand, but like you i would have thought if they did he would probably have declined or said to delay it. And like you say, if he said anything after he would look ungrateful.
  16. Another job well done away from home in europe! Shame about the one defensive lapse which was annoying as it was a stupid freekick, followed by nobody marking and nobody positioned on the far post! But i though we played some nice passing football, good one-twos and interlinking and did everything that was asked of us.
  17. Thanks, that just fucked us Yes. If we get knocked out it will definitely be because of this post. Sorry. But if we win the cup it will also be because of your post, so its not all bad!
  18. I'm usually pretty confident for our away matches in the UEFA cup, we seem to do well most of the time, so i'm going for a good win, with Martin's and Le Sib amongst the goals if both start!
  19. Quoting from comedy shows is for geeks though. Quoting from Seinfeld is for geeks. Because only geeks watch it. But at least none of those geeks have surreptitiously signed up to a Newcastle forum as The Soup Nazi. That said, if i'd been watching Seinfeld at the time i signed up then i probably would have! Whereas, clearly you were watching league of gentleman at the time. I was indeed, though could have done with seeing a caption spelling Lazarou correctly at the time!
  20. Roeder is nowhere near Souness with his moronic and selfish risking of players to save his own worthless hide, which was disgracefull, but on the Shola issue i'm afraid Glenn was taking the piss. The poor lad could barely stand towards the end yet he was sill out on the ptich! I'm not knocking Shola for wanting to have a go, but the manager should have know better and as people said at the time, they either wouldn't have tried it with a Shearer/Owen or those players would have told them to piss off! On the Owen issue all they are saying is they're working him hard, and they're doing that within the confines of what he should be doing at this stage in his rehabilitation, so i ahve no problems at all with that. And more pleasing is the mentions that they have also been working on his hamstrings at the same time to try and get him right back to his very best. The work with Dyer has seemingly been excellent, because freak injuries aside (getting hit in the eye and cutting his leg open!) he seems to be getting through games without some muscle or other going at any given time!

  22. I know what you mean, and yet its staring you in the face!
  23. Sounds like Peter Jackson's character in 'Bad Taste': "I'm a Derek, and Derek's don't run!"
  24. Be going to see that as soon as i can get it arranged with people! Glad to see Simon Pegg doing so well as i always thought he was underrated/underappreciated as a comedy actor over the years. Not by proper comedy fanatics who watch all the series he's appeared in, but generally alot of people would never have heard of him or seen much of him.
