  5. Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan admits that he will find it difficult to strengthen his side before the transfer window closes on Thursday night. The Magpies are yet to score under the new Keegan regime, and any reinforcements are unlikely to be incoming until the summer. Keegan revealed that despite him not adding to his squad it has not been for the want of trying - but claims that there are no players available who are better than his current squad members. "I'll be honest with you - I've sat down and looked, and there isn't anyone out there who is going to strengthen us better than when the four players come back from the African Nations Cup," Keegan told the Newcastle Chronicle. "They'll be back with us in two-and-a-half weeks, and there's just nothing out there. "I cannot let anybody go out. I've had inquiries for three players - one loan and two to sell, but I can't do it - it would be madness. "It wouldn't be impossible to sell as I haven't got enough players." Derby County confirmed on Tuesday that a bid from Newcastle for Giles Barnes had been rejected, while Levante centre-half Alvero has been linked with a move to Tyneside. I Hope that means we won't be getting that shite of a defender Alvero.
  6. Just tell him to go the Getty Images Headquarters and knock them all out
  7. Your not wrong there, it's fucking comical right now Did they get Woodgate for £11m ?
  8. Did West Ham not beat them, Zamora scoring.
  9. DIEGO Maradona made a surprise visit to the Newcastle United dressing room after Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal. The Argentinian legend chatted with Kevin Keegan and former Toon favourite David Ginola who had also popped down for a catch-up with the Magpies boss and coach Terry McDermott. And it was United's Czech defender David Rozehnal who revealed that Maradona's appearance had gone a small way to raising spirits after their second defeat in four days at the Emirates. "We met Diego after the game and he came in the dressing room," said the 27-year-old. "It was really nice of him. It was a lift for us and was quite surreal. "To meet such a big name in football is great, and something to remember for us." And, reflecting on the game, Rozehnal added: "It was disappointing again. Arsenal are a good team, but I think we are playing well in patches. "But we haven't picked up a result again. "That is a concern and we can't rest easily until we do get that win."
  10. Shay Given has admitted he fears Newcastle will be sucked into a Premier League relegation battle. Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal ensured Newcastle, who sit 12th in the league, remain without a win or a goal after three games under new manager Kevin Keegan. Given confessed the Newcastle squad are concerned by their flagging form and the goalkeeper insists the Magpies must quickly reach the 40-point mark which is commonly associated with top flight security. Newcastle currently have 27 points and still face a trip to Liverpool and a home fixture with Manchester United, while they must also take on local rivals - and fellow strugglers - Middlesbrough and Sunderland. "We're not safe by any means," Given told the Newcastle Chronicle. "There's still a lot of hard work to do before we can think we're safe. If you look at our run-in, there are a lot of tough games. "Of course we're looking over our shoulders. We need to get some points on the board." Given has also revealed his disappointment at Newcastle's 3-0 FA Cup elimination at the hands of Gunners on Saturday, but admits his side were well beaten. "We were beaten by the better team on both occasions," Given added. "It's extremely frustrating. The cup was our last chance of winning something, but we lost that game and we've lost again. "They (Arsenal) are streets ahead of us at the minute, and you've got to hold your hands up."
  11. Stuart Pearce has joined new England manager Fabio Capello's coaching staff. Pearce will continue with his existing role as coach of the Under 21 side and will join up with the senior squad after Tuesday's clash against Republic of Ireland at Southampton. After next week's Wembley friendly against Switzerland, Pearce will also be in Capello's backroom staff for the two end-of-season friendlies as the Under 21s are not in action. Capello said: "From the start I made it clear to everyone that I wanted an English coach as part of my coaching team. "I have spoken with Trevor Brooking and Stuart Pearce about this at length and I'm very happy that Stuart is working with me. "This is very important as Stuart has a lot of experience and understanding of English football. He understands what I am looking to achieve and how I want to work. "I believe it is crucial that both of us have a close working partnership to get the best for both the England team and Under 21s. "As well as being involved in all of the planning ahead of games, he will sit next to me on the bench during the matches and have a key position around the team."
  12. Tottenham have confirmed that Alan Hutton has completed his move to White Hart Lane from Rangers on a four-year contract. The two clubs agreed a £9million fee early in the transfer window before the Scotland international initially rejected the opportunity to join the Premier League side. But after having another change of heart, Hutton has now become Juande Ramos' third signing of the transfer window after the arrivals of Jonathan Woodgate and Chris Gunter. A statement on Spurs' official website confirmed: "We are delighted to announce we have reached agreement with Glasgow Rangers for the transfer of Alan Hutton." Hutton is now set to make his Premier League debut in Saturday's clash with Manchester United at White Hart Lane. He told Rangers' official website: "I would like to thank everyone at Rangers for making my time at the club so special. "I have progressed through the youth ranks at Murray Park and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches, management staff and players I have worked with during my time at Ibrox. "The last 12 months have been fantastic for me personally and I have received great support from the fans. "That meant a lot and helped give me the confidence tot take the next step in my career. "I wish Rangers every success for the season and in the future and although I am sad to leave there is no doubt my transfer to Tottenham is good not just for me, but for the club."
  13. Aye, that was awesome Scored a few corkers against us. Great goal against Blackburn from a mile out too at Ewood I think. I loved that one he scored, against Wimbledon I think, were from the free-kick he just flicked it up and volleyed it in. Great goal and the one against Blackburn was fucking amazing
  14. Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has insisted new executive director Dennis Wise will be under his command. Wise has been brought in to assist the board on football matters, and Keegan has moved to dispel any confusion over the hierarchical structure of the club. He said: "I am all for the changes and I approve of them. They want someone on the board who understands football, and Dennis understands football very well. "It will work very well. Dennis reports to me - the chain is established." Magpies chairman Chris Mort has stressed that Wise, 41, will have no day-to-day involvement with the playing squad, but will concentrate on areas such as player recruitment and the development of the academy. And Keegan - who saw Newcastle lose 3-0 at Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday, a repeat of the sides' FA Cup result three days earlier - believes the policy can pay dividends. He said: "The club has become slightly fragmented. From my point of view, it's a positive thing - provided I get all the help I need. "I know what Dennis is going to do, and the idea in principle is good - to look for new players, to bring youngsters through and do things which our academy isn't doing so much at the moment." Keegan also revealed he was involved in the appointment after speaking to owner Mike Ashley before he returned as manager. "I knew about it. It's not a surprise to me, it might be to other people," Keegan told BBC Radio 5 live. "Two or three names were given to me when I first sat down and talked about the job with the owner. One of them was Dennis. "I know Dennis. I know he's intelligent. I know his job here is to help me. He's on my side. "How can any manager be against someone who is going to come to the club to try to bring in talent? "It's right for this football club. A lot of people outside might be shocked about it. I think in the long term it's the right decision. It's something that needs to be done." Certainly Newcastle are in dire need of a shake-up, as they hover only seven points off the Premier League relegation places. The return on Tuesday of Joey Barton, who has been bailed from prison after he was charged with assault and affray last month, could not lift Newcastle. But Keegan was eager to put a positive spin on the situation. "I think Joey will be delighted just to get out there and play football," he said. "All Joey has got to do now is let his football do the talking. "He's got a lot of energy. He's got something he can give to us that probably not many players at the club can give. "He can become a very important player for us, but he can only become important for us if he conducts himself properly both on and off the football pitch." Keegan also took time to praise struggling striker Michael Owen, who has suffered through injury and has scored only one goal for Newcastle since October. "Michael is fit now," Keegan said. "We mustn't judge him on playing in this team at the moment because we are not creating anything for him." Keegan added that he expected Owen to be named in England's squad to face Switzerland next Wednesday. "I don't think there is any doubt about that," he said.
