Film/moving picture show you most recently watched
David Kelly replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
I've seen much worse films. It wasn't terrible but I'd certainly never watch it again and it's the worst film I've seen at the cinema that I wasn't dragged to by a lass (Jack and Jill, Battleship and one of the Twilight films being the worst I've been forced to watch). The leads are both pretty enjoyable actors to watch so that helped. -

Passengers. When I saw it described as Titantic in space I was immediately put off but we had money off on nachos this week so decided to give it a go. Fortunately it's much better than that description (not hard admittedly) without being anything particularly exciting. Micheal Sheen is quite good and there's one good scene where the artificial gravity fails but other than that you're really relying on Jennifer Lawrence's bathing suit for any enjoyment. -
I've quite enjoyed this season as there seems to be real jeopardy for the first time in ages. Neegan and his group cause problems that they've never faced as a group before and clearly is going to necessitate some sort of coalition with the other communities that he is terrorising. They can only drag the torturing by him out so long though or everyone will lose interest. But they appear to understand this.

Get yourself to Wallsend then you can spend many a happy Friday and Saturday in Manhattans.

FA Cup 3rd Round - Birmingham City v Newcastle
David Kelly replied to wykikitoon's topic in Newcastle Forum
They said Anita was in midfield and Yedlin was at the back on the radio. Dunno if that changed as the game wore on. -
It's sold out apparently but I'd guess there might be a fair few people wanting to sell their tickets because of the change. I see we've still not gone back to the insulting thread titles. I was tempted to go for a defeat on that basis alone!

The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread
David Kelly replied to Anorthernsoul's topic in Newcastle Forum
Can't say I'd heard of him before today. Apparently their manager has said there's no chance he'll be leaving. It's nice to hear a manager saying that for a change although I'd wonder how certain any manager can ever be of something like that. -

Didn't we play 2 up front on Saturday? Was a bit more concerned that the midfield contained two fullbacks and two defensive midfielders. Although I think that comes from a lack of options. We clearly need more creativity in midfield. -
De La Soul (at the student union I think) is coming up sometime soon.

Cromwell. There was a talking pictures thing on yesterday with Richard Harris and then this was on straight after. It's not as good as some of the other historical drama's of around the same time (such as A Man For All Seasons) but there's good performances from Harris as Cromwell and Alec Guinness as the king. It's an interesting watch to learn a bit more about the revolution although I don't think it did that great a job of showing the peoples real grievances against the king. The Handmaiden. Another excellent film from Chan Wook Park (director of Oldboy and Lady Vengeance) about a Korean girl who gets set up as a handmaiden to a Japanese woman with aim of taking her inheritance from her. Has some great twists and seriously good sex scenes. I really must get round to watching JSA and Sympathy For Mr Vengance as the rest of his films are never anything short of interesting. -
I agree with all of that but I think Dickie has a point that Dyer at times hid. When he didn't he was so far beyond what Colback is it's like a different sport. But he was a cunt at times too.
-
Ideally but my heart doesn't exactly sink when he's paired with Shelvey. I'd rather see a motivated Tiote played ahead of him but it doesn't seem like that's an option. Wasn't Mbemba supposed to be able to play as a defensive midfielder?
-
I think it's been clear that Hayden is the go to partner for Shelvey. Colback has mainly been the backup for Hayden which is fine for me this season. He's not a premier league quality player though.
-
The problem with Colback is more that him and Hayden are a shocking partnership (especially when we have a left winger who isn't exactly flying down the flank). Colback has been adequate when paired with Shelvey because they clearly compliment each other more. Hayden is a lot better than Colback but in this division, used in his right way, Colback is fine. Unfortunately we've found out to our cost in the last few games, that we don't have adequate cover for Shelvey. Actually I think this has been evident throughout the season because generally in the games we've lost, Shelvey hasn't been able to dictate and we've needed another option that we haven't had. Which is another reason why people have wanted to see us play another striker.

I think you're still overestimating the average person there.

I think the cup run in the EFL had a positive influence on our season to date. Sacking off the FA Cup would be counter productive imo. It's fine to rest Gayle and one or two others but with three players away to the ACN, Shelvey still banned and Jesus and Gamez injured, we're down on our options so I wouldn't be thinking about resting too many or we'll be down to the reserves. -
I don't think they'd be much better off if they sold him in the window. There's no way they'd be able to persuade someone of the required quality to go there as his replacement even if they could afford it.
-
I said at the start of the season that if Mitro gets the games he'll get 20 goals easily. I still believe he could now but don't believe he'll get the opportunity. I don't think he'd score more than Gayle though. Gayle is a better finisher. I think Gayle would comfortably get over 30 if he stays fit.

I think some people spend far too much time on Twitter in exchanges with morons who like to just spout shit to wind people up. The average person on twitter is about as clued up as esembee so I don't understand why intelligent people engage with them.
-
I think you've got some weird sense of exactly what I'm thinking now Howay.
-
It seems some people go so far overboard defending Rafa if anyone brings up anything they think he's done wrong. I got dogs abuse on twitter at the beginning of the season for saying that he was wrong to play Anita right midfield (which of course he was). The man is a human being capable of making mistakes and just because the rest of us don't have his experience, it doesn't mean that we can't call him out on those mistakes. Just because I think we could have success with playing Mitro with Gayle on some occasions or that we should be changing the way we try to play when we don't have the most pivotal player in the squad available, doesn't mean that I think we have anything but the best manager available and one of the top 3 managers we've had in my lifetime, or that I think we doing anything other than heading the right direction. As much as there are some moaners who kick off at the slightest set back, I think there's more people who have a ridiculous overreaction to anyone who doesn't see everything as perfect.
-
I agree with Rayvin and Howay. I think given Short's lack of interest in the tramps these days, he's more than capable of just saying fuck it I'll not take the risk we'll get relegated and lose him for nothing in the summer when I can get £10m now. I also think Defoe would jump at the chance to head to London and would be a great short term signing for West Ham. He'd get a substantial amount of games for the next season or so and at 34 I doubt he'd be too worried about the possibility of not playing every week. Clearly if they did sell him they'd be absolutely fucked. He's their only good player and source of goals and there's no way they could replace him for that money even if Short were to give them it all to spend. You'd imagine it would have a seriously detrimental effect on the morale of the remaining players and the inbreed's who watch them.
-
I thought we paid £5m for Murphy. Personally I think he just doesn't rate Mitro. That's fair enough but we should be replacing him with who he does rate because we need another option imo.
-
Personally I would give Mitro a chance not because I think he's a world beater or he should play ahead of Gayle but because I think Gayle could possibly do even better with someone with him giving the opposition something else to think about. Perez certainly hasn't done that this season (or last for that matter). And whether he starts or not, Rafa needs to think about some of his substitutions. To me it seemed an obvious move on Monday to bring Murphy on before they scored to give us extra firepower when we were well on top but struggling to score. When he wasn't brought on and they scored he should have certainly been brought on immediately at that point. To bring him on in the 88th minute was ridiculous (just as it had been on Boxing Day with Mitro) and gave him no chance to make an impact.
