  1. I might not be able to tell you who the player is we should sign but I can say that we want someone more mobile, who can last 90 minutes, who can play off the shoulder, who can drop in deep, who can work the channels, who can bring others into play etc. Mind you, I could no doubt name players all day who could do some or all of these things better than Shola and if you can't then frankly that just shows you up even more.
  2. That was on 6 music this morning. Made me giggle I have to admit.
  3. Chelsea have been the most successful team in the country during that time would be the counter argument. Of course the virtually unlimited transfer funds have made Abramovic's approach possible. A team that can't afford to keep spunking such amounts would almost certainly see very different results.
  4. I think all managers make decisions that supporters find baffling at times. You have to try to remember that they know a lot more about what's going on with players at a certain time than we do so what sometimes seems like a bizarre decision from the outside is exactly what we would all do given all the facts. Of course this doesn't explain the decision to sign or play Obertan!
  5. I really can't remember this game last season, I know I was there so I guess I must have been pissed either before or after. What were the goals like?
  6. A lot of the stuff that gets on that showboat reel is showy but in reality a lot less skillful than that. It's not something I would excited about but you have to appreciate the level of technique that it requires.
  7. I don't know how you can call for him to be replaced while admitting that you have no idea of who is an option or even what is required to be better than what we have. It comes across like wanting change for the sake of it and it's no wonder anyone with a brain is disagreeing. I'm sure when you're in the pub you can find some other fans that have no knowledge of football who will agree with you but when you're talking to people who've played and watched football all their lives you sound ridiculous tbh.
  8. I wouldn't say his performance was unacceptable. Yes there were flaws but he was playing with a poor hand most of the time. He wasn't the reason why our squad wasn't strong enough to cope with the injuries that we've had. It's a lot easier to make poor decisions when your options are so limited. Of course it's a lot easier to make good decisions now we have more options!
  9. Did they ditch him for AVB though? I would suggest that had the whole England thing never came up Redknapp would still be there. And has AVB driven them any further forward so far? Yes they had a bad spell when the England thing first came up but generally they are in almost exactly the same position that they were under Arry. It's possible that there might be a manager out there who would be an upgrade to Pardew (who definitely has flaws) but it's probably even more likely that changing would disrupt us at this stage undoing a lot of good work that has gone on in the last few years.
  10. Neither Reading or Southampton particularly offend me (well every other team does really but them no more than any other) but I suppose they are a cunt to get to for an away game. I have a stronger dislike for Wigan because of their piss poor fans but I find Martinez quite canny so I'm torn a bit there.
  11. Aye, I can only think it was from the African stall. I was the only one in our group who had anything from there (a saltfish dumpling) and I was the only one bad. Although another mate who went the next day got the shits a bit too. Tbf once I was I didn't feel too bad at all. Played football the next morning.
  12. I was. Hoyed up something rotten on Saturday!
  13. Surely the club will know for a fact if he has broke bones in his back or not. I can't see Pardew coming out and saying it if it's just what Colo's told him!
  14. Them and Villa going down would do me nicely. Not really too arsed who else follows them (would like Stoke but that won't happen) as long as it's not us!
  15. Never been able to really get into Southpark at all. I think I even went to see the film at the pictures but nothing's ever stood out for me.
  16. I think people are being quite harsh on Anita. Before the new players signed, he had pretty much been our best player for quite a few games. He was really showing the signs that he was just about there in coming to terms with the premiership and bare in mind that he was doing this in a team that looked completely out on it's feet. He's been very unfortunate that Cabaye and Tiote have came back at the same time that Sissoko has come in and he's found himself left out in the cold. Had we been able to give him the chance to slowly bed in alongside Tiote and Cabaye (which I think was the plan in the first place) then he could well have been flying by now. When we get Ben Arfa back in the groove too and we are a real threat to teams when we attack, he could very well be a much better option in the middle than Tiote. I hope he hangs around long enough to really show us his best form because I think he's more than capable of being a good player for us.
  17. Shame. Never seen him play but from what I've heard of him and given that he'll be available for nowt in the summer he could have been a good option for us.
  18. It's never the best though having to play Shola! Especially when our only other striker is a kid who's had about five minutes game time previously.
  19. Aye your right like. But at the age the bairn was then they didn't last too long anyway There's still a lot of the other things I got from you that I haven't watched yet tbh. I started to watch Akira but fell asleep and I've not managed to get started on Das Boot or La Dolce Vita yet. Watched the first Pusher film and I really enjoyed that. I should get round to the other two but I've been off subtitles for a while now.
  20. I bought the box set of the first two off Happy Face a few years for the little un and they were on none stop. Ended up getting them all on blu ray now.
  21. Tbh it depends on where you see the club going. If we want to be in the champions league spots there's certainly an argument that Santon, Taylor, Tiote and Cisse could do with being replaced. That would take much more money than we're going to spend. The other option is look to move back into the wafa cup spots and tbh I don't really think we need to replace any of the first team for that. We just need to increase the quality of the squad.
  22. Is that out now? I saw it months ago. Pretty average thriller. One for dvd rather than the pictures.
  23. That first eleven looks very strong now and I'm sad to say that if anyone is the weak link, it would appear that it is Santon now. As Padocklad says, he's clearly a good player but he certainly has some defensive frailties. Personally I think playing on the left does him no favours on that score and I think he would do better at rightback but obviously that's unlikely now with Debuchy there. Mind you it's worth saying that behind Ben Arfa and Ba, Santon was our best player for the first three or four months of the season so I don't think he's a write off by any means. Aside from Santon, you have Taylor who is a pretty good player but we know is likely to be injured at any time and could be improved upon (if Colo were to stay, unlikely as that is, we already have two other players to play ahead of him) and Gouffran who has impressed me but is never going to be of the same quality as Ben Arfa. Beyond that you are looking at squad players or someone who can go toe to toe with Cisse.
  24. Can't really complain about the way we played yesterday. They had the better chances in the first half but we had most of the play. Second half was all us but in this league if you don't take your chances you'll be made to pay. Just knew it was going to happen when Moore came on, he's one of the worst players in the league. Absolutely awful defending from Santon though! But we've moved forward a lot as a team these last few weeks so we just have to move on.
  25. He's been an embarassment to the club virtually from the off so I'm glad the cunts gone. Sad that he's no doubt leaving with a payoff that would take most people years to earn and that it's taken so long!
