You just have to look at Ekitike, reports in Germany said that would take an offer way over the odds, meaning about 100m, for Frankfurt to sell him. I genuinely think that Newcastle thought about being able to sign him for a realistic fee or push another club into paying an increased fee. That’s something Liverpool had to do in the end. But they are able to do it while we need to make sure other clubs are not able to throw the book at us because we became "rich”.

I don’t think it’s a low ball strategy but a strategy where we are only prepared to offer what we consider a fair market value. We probably need to be bite the bullet at some point to improve though. Considering PSR it’s ridiculous that other clubs really think that we are able to pay over the odds but we need to close the gap to other clubs to get into a better position in negotiations.
