It depends of our list of targets and its order, doesn't it. If there are other players who are higher on the wishlist then missing out on other players is bound to happen. But it's nonsense to start to switch to panik mode when it's not even June... I agree with parky that you have to move quickly when the good players are available....... < sigh > will they learn ? And miss out on better players who they (Keegan) want to target first? Zarate looks a talented player but not a must buy player to me. We will know if the board still have to learn when the transfer dealing really can be described as a failure, which is still far too early (not for you obviously...). maybe. See Icegrim, I just think that - while applying standards - he's better than what we have, and looks a good prospect. So we should get him. I'm just not too concerned about the money [its not as if he's going to cost 30m quid or anything] because if someone better DOES come along, then buy him as well. Then ship someobody out of the club ie Emre for instance. It is possible that we could miss out or not get bigger targets too, then we would have nobody. Although that would be worrying and disappointing. But it's not about who you or I would like to sign, but who the manager wants. And iirc it was you (or maybe it was HTL?) who in these cases, i.e. missing out on a player, used to say that it's not possible to sign every player on the planet. And it was definitely you who used to moan about people who complained about lack of transfers and late transfers when the transfer deadline loomed, saying that it doesn't matter when but who we sign. So I think especially for you it should be a case of wait and see who Keegan brings in and if he got the necessary backing of the board for the players he wanted to bring in. If we then don't have a squad capable of competing in the league for a higher league position then you'll have every right to moan. Though the day to judge this should be September 1st, maybe already early August, but definitely not May 20th.

Even if he only had two pints (or none at all), dining at McDonalds at 5.30am in the morning after a night out is totally unaccapteble for a professional football tbh.
-
The time when the incident happened is also to note. That's what pissed me of right from the start. Leaving the assault aside this is an awful indication of his professionalism. Especially as it was at a time when we had loads of games and he just had a dispute with Fat Sam because of his state of fitness. As a normal employee he would face sacking just because of this alone. Edit: My typing is as if I had ten pints of lager, too.

Reading some of the stuff some people come up with over at N-O is ridiculous. The hype surrounding the Premierleague has made some people to lose any perspective. I am not denying that the English league is the better and more attractive one. Still, this doesn't make English clubs attractive propositions by itself. Seriously, apart from the top four teams the interest in English clubs is barely existent. I am anything but a great defender of the German league and its quality, but the way some people scoff at inferior leagues and its clubs is totally deluded.

defensive midfielder shirley? Deep lying playmaker. Falkland war veteran wasn't he?
-
He's been absolutely crap for Dortmund. Sometimes decent at going forward, but a bramblesque defensive liability. They are welcome to him.

Had today to play with a useless bunch of tw*ts. I just hate the kind of players who just play for themselves. We had three of them tonight. We would have been better of with giving each of them a seperate ball to keep them entertained. Other than that I realised how crap I actually am.

I think that probably are reading far too much into the situation. The season has just finished. Transfer dealings are just starting at the moment and we already were (unsuccessfully) involved in one attempt to sign on of the biggest prospects of football in Modric. I think it is a case of wait and see what is about to happen during the summer. If there has been no action until August then is the time to start to worry, but definitely not now. I also don't see any need of making a public statement of intention. The best statement of intention will be when we are finally successful in signing a good player. But I don't think a statement saying that there is the amount of xy million pound available necessary. It probably would only be counterproductive as then clubs from Europe know they can try to hold us to ransom. All that matters is that Keegan etc. know that enough money is available, which I think does now since the meeting in London the other week.

We don't. As Wolfgang will come along and tell us so. This. I live very close to Stuttgart, so therefore get quite a bit from the stuff surrounding the club. They are resigned to losing Gomez in the not too distant future, most likely to be next season. Though much might depend on the impression he makes during the summer. His goal tally is amazing and during the season there have been people from nearly every top club in Europe watching him and some clubs are understood to have made first enquiries. As Gomez is half-spanish his preference is Spain (he said so himself), so I think if an offer from England comes it will have to be one of the bigger clubs who can offer European football. Because what he could get at Newcastle, he already has (and more) at Stuttgart. Nothing wrong with watching and trying to sign this calibre of players, but we will certainly miss out on many of them. Though we actually might have watched more realistic targets in this game.

Don't think so. If at all the war would have maybe taken a bit longer. But Germany would still never have won it. It wouldn't have changed the Russian winter, it wouldn't have changed the outnumbering of men and material, it wouldn't have changed the lack of ressources etc. Yeah perhaps you're right, the result would have ended up the same. It's the physical feat of the dambusters raid which impressed me - the chances of it all going to plan were so slim - but still they took that chance. I totally agree, the whole concept is really fascinating regardless of the need or impact.

And what exactly does that have to do with Austria as a country or their football team? Shh, you can easily say this with your cellar being full of nazi-gold.
-
That dude who kept all those kids in his Cellar, that was austria right? Well, I though picking a team because the kit looking cool was a bit strange, but changing your opinion just because one person is a nutter is a bit extreme iyam.

It was certainly a remarkable mission, and as a kid, I loved the books and films about it. But was it really that important from a military point of view? I got the impression the propaganda value was more important. Well, one of the places that got bombed (Edertalsperre) is very close to where I come from. The predominant opinion down here is that the attacks on the dams were mislead in the believe to have a major economical effect, especially in cutting of electrial supply for the industry. The dam busters probably had much more of a psychological effect, not only on Germany, but especially as a morale boost for the allied troops. Which is probably why they are still held (rightfully) in such a high opinion.

Yup. Enrique is still young and only in his 1st Premiership season and isn't that bad anyway (Carr would be a worse one surely?). Also, not throwing him in straight from the start, but letting him adapt slowly was actually quite sensible from Fat Sam. At any other club (and from any other manager) this approach would have been hailed.

Right foot chomped?

According to Martin Jol (ok, make of it what you want) the background might be this...
-
Tom, nothing wrong with you trying to be (cautiously) optimistic about it. I wouldn't have said anything against it if you were not repeatedly trying to take the piss out of fans of other clubs who don't act too differently. Don't get wound up too easily...

And you are mocking people on RTG for being a bit deluded? Power mad. Im saying it's not impossible. Check my first post for the best indication. Yes, you'd better stopped posting after this. It's more interesting when you post about gardening to be honest. Oooh, touchy. Can't you see the irony of you dragging up quotes from other message boards where people are saying something deluded or unrealistic but then are just going for the same route?
