Aye, if that set run through one transformer (Im no sparky, but I think maybe 240 to 12v?) then there could be a fault with the transformer Fairly new wiring is unlikely to be at fault. All four spots going at the same time is just as unlikely. There has to be a common thing between them thats gone wrong. So if they all go through one switch it could be that? or if as you say a transformer then that? you dont want to be messing with electrics if you dont know 100% what you are doing. but with a multimeter you could check what voltage you were getting back out of the transformer. Or at the switch which I think will be switching the live, if turned on you could check that you are getting 240v out of the other side when the switch is on. Like I say though, best get someone in to do that if you aint confident what you're doing there. 240v nips a bit

Reflectors are cheap but very effective. You also can use anything. But basically you dont really want to use a flash right on an object as it flattens the image. When people use a flash they usually point it away from the subject and bounce the light back on so its softer. On board flash (that I use atm) is pretty crude hence Im also looking for a new one. Natural light is of course better but harder to come by internally unless by a window. Shooting inside is a pain. It is generally dull and you need longer exposure which without a tripod leads to blur. A tripod is hardly appropriate for candid shots at a birthday party etc. You can increase the ISO but I know if I go over 800 the image gets too much noise. Best thing you can do I guess is have a higher ISO but not too high, plus a large aperture to let as much light in. If that still wont cut it then its either flash or a tripod. Its always about light.

Gawd you're worse than the wife 1. Selective colouring doesnt always work, but I like the choice here. 2. Nice shot, not much is wrong with that one 3. As 2 4. Another nice one. Id maybe have zoomed in and cropped a bit to lose some of the background (arm etc) 5. Nice again, would have been interesting if you used a reflector. That would have bounced some of the natural light back on to the subjects dark face. I dont have one either, its on my to do list

Get a contractor to work for free? If its 4 lights in one fitting I'd imagine its just wired into the circuit as normal. Live in, switched and out. Does my head in every time I fit a new light fitting, sitting working out the several lives. Anyway, if all 4 are off and other lights on that floor are ol then it sounds like the fitting is dodgy. Not the wiring. If it is 4 individual spots and they are all off thats a bit more suspect. Especially if the rest of that floor is ok?
