  1. I knew you would say that, so right i am. And I just thought something else that's right so I'm right about that as well. Howay man LM
  2. Tbf, there was an awful lot of hesitation from Britain at the start of the war and also with the French. The French were too busy arguing with themselves to see if they would do anything. Poland lasted only moments as they tried to fend of the German tank and aircraft with fucking horses! Germany took several countries without a drop of blood being taken as they just rolled over in fear. All this went on without Britain being involved. Eventually we did get involved but it was too little too late and we evacuated us and the French etc as you know. Chamberlain for us was a bit of a waste of space apart from investing in defense that would benefit us later.
  3. Looks canny actually, never seen it before.
  4. Ah cheers, may well do. I've been after a good book on D-Day and Overlord in general.
  5. They did, but iirc the Yanks had shocking luck with the choppy sea meaning they had to beach from further out. They, as we did, used DD Tanks but they used theirs from too far out so they didnt even reach the beach. Cant recall what beach it was but one of them anyway had issues with waves and mines and launched too far out at sea.
  6. Ah ok, 2:4 not 2:3, I was close I don't think anyone can play down the role played by any force when you look at the casualties over the whole war. Compared to numbers in today's conflicts which while still awful, pale in comparison. Yanks claiming they won the war for us or anyone playing down the role of the US smacks of ignorance.
  7. Stalin while mental was playing hitler at his own game. When they signed a "pact" hitler signed areas of natural minerals over without thinking while Stalin knew what he was doing. On overlord, Canada had a huge part as well. Bit I know about the most is Gold Beach, which was the 50th Northumbrian division including the DLI and Northumbrian Hussars. Normandy had been split into something like 5 beaches. From memory the US took 3 and the Allies took 2. I'd need to check that though.
  8. QFT, someone takes the piss you take on the chin and give it back. That's what is good about the place. Seldom people get all bitchy about it. That's when the place gets dragged down. When banter turns in to people losing their rag and dragging it over the whole forum.
  9. Fucking hell Stevie, I can see you now. Sitting in the West Denton or Lemington club in 30yrs time sipping a pint and calling everyone a cunt who tiptoes past you. You'll have your own seat and tut at the sight of a lass drinking in the bar

    Wimbledon

Aye nee shame in losing today like. Played well at times but Federer just seemed to take his game to a whole new level while Murray seemed to tire. Fair play to him though he gave it all to the last point. Can't imagine the pressure he was under.

    Wimbledon

Anyone see this little gem from a Mackem lass on twitter? @Georgia_Ford: Is wimbledon always held in London? Sadly after much pointing, laughing and abuse in general, she left twitter.
  12. Totally agree, as I've said for a while. We could ship 5 out and get 3 in and be better for it.
  13. Reading a history of WW2. That Hitler was a bit of a twat like.

  15. As you said images and not photos
  16. I'd agree tbf. While I think some things are a cack handed disaster, it's hard to complain finishing 5th.
  17. I've worked there and still do now, also have family there. I wouldn't say the majority hated the English, but then i think their attitude to Geordies is different to that of Cockneys.
  18. Happy Fishday! (it's took me THIS long to think of that and it's still shite!)
  19. First paragraph is exactly and factually correct.
  20. Based on where we are right now, Id think maybe 7th/8th with Chelsea & Liverpool jumping back over us.
  21. This is just it. Some have supposed that any club can overspend as its football and its "different". Well they cant. Look at Leeds, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Port Vale etc. Rangers wasnt just overspending but not paying HMRC. Then is was "they wont go under". Well they have. Rangers no longer exist. They were liquidated. What you have now is a new Rangers. Of course the fans are still there. But you cant just write it off like it doesnt matter. Of course it matters, else SJH could have just let us be liquidated before taking over. But, Rangers are one of two clubs that the SPL survives on. It just goes to show that greed is more important than ethics to some up there when despite Rangers doing what they did they just want them to be slapped on the wrist and remain in the SPL. Had this been Inverness for example they would have been sent to the back of the queue. But no, they want Rangers in the SPL as they know financially they bring in money to the whole league. Rangers will not be in the SPL next season, despite many thinking it would never come to that. Question now I guess is will they be in the 1st or the 3rd. People want them in the 1st to hope they get right back into the SPL for the finances it brings everyone. Others say the 3rd where anyone else would be sent. Even though it is a newco mind, its easy to say it has nothing to do with Oldco and this is a new club with no history. But one thing that doesnt change is the "soul" of the club. That remains the same. Same attitude, same fans, same stadium. Financially a clean slate. But the implication of starting in the 3rd could be a tough one. No CL money, no European money at all in fact. Less TV money and so on. Though I suspect their gates will be the same as ever even in the 3rd.
