Great news (even if it is belated...)!

They just point out bits of backstory that people have forgotten, I think. They ought to be pointing out the time travel aspect of it though; it's not even difficult to follow but some people just can't seem to grasp that whatever happened, happened. They aren't changing the future or anything like that. They can't change the future. Exactly. The amount of people who don't realise this despite having it hammered into our heads in the first 5 episodes astounds me. Have you seen the names of the remaining episodes? I think Faraday might return to drop some science on us regarding this very topic...

It's disheartening to read that "officials" and government types are so lax with computer security. Not only for the "national security" aspect, but also just for all the offical records that can be generated from having access to goverment information. Seems like there's not a week that goes by that something isn't stolen from Los Alamos labs, some VA hosptial, or the Social Security Administration. On a related subject, any of you ever read The Art of Deception by Kevin Mitnick? Fascinating book.

As a former teacher, it seems like society holds you to a little different standard than most when you're a teacher. I was just a college instructor teaching technical industrial classes, but I saw a couple of fellow instructors really run though the mill when they fucked up in some relatively public way- one got a DUI (drunk driving) charge and was put on probation. Wasn't until the all-powerful teacher's union got involved that his problems finally went away. Dunno how it is over there, but here our public likes to hold teachers in a higher regard, at least when it comes to fucking up. Don't expect anything positive mind you. Since she's a woman though, and a decently attractive one, she'll be fine. Over here, if a female teacher fucks some middle school kid, she ends up on probation and a daytime talk show. If a male teacher fucks some middle school student, he's killed in prison. Don't misunderstand me- both are reprehensible scumbags. Just a bit of a double standard though.

My work is totally in bed with Microsoft, so we have to use it. I went from 6 to 8 a couple weeks ago because I was having trouble uploading with some of our proprietary part number apps. Didn't help a bit. All I've noticed so far is it's a lot less stable. I didn't have much trouble with 6 locking up for no reason, but 8 seems to quite a bit. Dunno if it's just my computer or just what. I hit enter before I hit the M in .com and it locked up. Seems like if I leave a browser window open for more than an hour it locks up. Having tabs is nice, but I use FireFox at the house and I like it a lot more. Might just be because I'm more used to it after using it for the past 7 years though, to be honest. Not impressed so far, but no other browsers will work with the way we have our WLAN/ net access set up.

Just for a point of contention... You have in your possession a well-written but unpublished novel that describes how a fictional character goes from office drone to professional killer. The facts referenced in the book are all correct. I consulted with law enforcement on the technical aspects. ... a two-liter bottle really does work well as a silencer for all but the largest calibers of handguns. Just don't hold it by the neck, and if you think of it, put on a glove as the bottle will get hot... Joking, of course. Maybe it's just me, but the couple of times my wife has mentioned wanting to have some guy she works with over have been met with me going, "Sure. And I'll invite over the accounts receivable manager from Georgetown who recently divorced her husband and Sametimes me on nearly a daily basis." That generally defuses the situation. I don't know, me personally, if she wants to have her girlfriends over for drinks and they bring some guys, that's fine, but I'm not going to sit in MY house around MY table and drink MY booze with some retard male co-worker of hers, just the three of us. Mainly because a) I know what's going through said retard's head, and B ) there'd be no way in hell my wife would allow me to bring home some female co-worker to have a beer and hang out (not that I have any female friends, FFS).

The lightbulb thing has always been a head-scratcher for me. I get that some individuals might derive pleasure from shoving objects into their ass. It's not my bag, but whatever- different strokes for different folks. But a lightbulb? Like at least a couple times a month. Not for very long mind you, but couple hours a month, I'd say. Last January just after New Year's we had this big ice storm here. Knocked out a ton of power lines. We lost power for about 12 hours when it was like 10 degrees F outside. Fucking sucked, but it was nothing compared to some of the smaller towns around here that lost power for like weeks. Very rare for folk to lose the power in UK. It can happen from time to time in some parts after a storm/flood/severe winter weather/plague of locusts on a biblical scale (especially on the outer islands of Scotland), but in the main things remain on. Christ, that's amazing. What really sucks is when we lose power at the manufacturing plant I work in. Completely fucks up the computers and equipment, which yeah, you guessed it, I'm in charge of taking care of.

Funny story- My wife has worked nights (she's an ICU nurse) since she graduated from college. My friends all know this and as such, don't come around during the days. Well, one of my friends had something REALLY IMPORTANT (not really, just fucked up and forgot) to tell me, so he stopped by one of the days she was sleeping. I'm on the computer in our spare bedroom fucking about when suddenly there's five loud knocks at the door. You can guess what happens next- the dog goes nuts, cats are flying off the metal 4-post bed she's sleeping on, etc. It goes from a perfectly quiet summer day to absolute chaos in the span of those five knocks. I'm looking out the window trying to see which dipshit salesman just fucked my day up, when it turns out it's my friend Jon. My wife is all, "Who is it?" I tell her it's Jon. She's like, "Why the hell is he knocking on the door?" Again, all my buddies know to call me on my cell or email me, y'know? Before I know it, I've grabbed ahold of the metal post on the bed and I'm banging it into my head going- "I (bang) don't (bang) know (bang)!" Did it hard enough it made me dizzy and I fell back. That was when we decided I finally needed to see a dotor about my "problems." I'm good now. I wasn't moelstered or any of that shite. Just a serotonin imbalance I've had since like puberty. As long as I make myself exercise and remember I can't always trust my judgement and reactions to some situations, I'm totally cool. As long as you're better.
