I think I've said before that the thing that made me despair at the time was the second attempted tube attack a month after July the seventh - I really thought it was going to get "every other day". Finished Stranger Things today - really enjoyed it. I can see the view that it should have just been one season with a semi-happy ending but I liked the bridge to the second season - topically very reminiscent of Twin Peaks.

For me the minimum wage should support the idea that anyone who works for a living can at least expect to survive and have a decent standard of living. Of course you can argue about what decent means but I think having a place to live and enough to clothe and feed themselves with a bit left over isn't too much to ask. Of course that should be the starting point for people within an organisation with suitable progress available.

If the plan is to introduce a 45% rate from 80 to 150 and then 50 above 150 then the extra is "reasonable" imo - someone on 100k would pay 1k a year more tax or 80pm. If you're on 100k and think £80 is unmissable then you haven't got your spending under control or you're just a cunt.

Its a bit of a chicken and egg thing - a lot of the shit degrees at shit "universities" exist because of the demand for everyone to have the chance to go. I think Blair's idea of easier access was partly a noble principle and partly an easy answer to youth unemployment - a better solution would have been much better advice backed up by proper investment in training and apprenticeships - theres nowt wrong with bright 16 or 18 year olds becoming electricians etc - when the mines and shipyards existed they certainly weren't careers for thickos. I think "useful" degrees should be free or at least cheap, I see traditional "indulgence" degrees like classics or theology as something people should pay for. Ideally a lot of the ridiculous one should be scrapped or continue to be charged for.
