  1. It may depend on how Man City do in January - if they go for stupid people like Torres or a bit lower but it doesn't work out and it gets to the last couple of days without "satisfaction" then they may go for him. I have a feeling Owen may sign a new contract but it aill have clauses that allow escape if someone he fancies comes in.
  2. On the credit where it's due front I also thought Guthrie had a damn good game.
  3. Other candidates aside, I work with a Fenherbace fan who reckons we dodged a bullet there. They were grateful of the CL run but domestically he was deemed a failure.
  4. "Base" I think is a legacy fom alchemy - it refers to common metals which were supposed to be changeable to gold. Base as in Acid and Base is a very american term - we'd use alkali which refers more to the likelihood to combine with acids to form salts.
  5. "Impressed with Joe Kinnear" is probably the thing he has said in 18 months which justifies everything said about him the most. More bullshit propaganda

    Bailout

I find it funny that the Republicans used "socialist" as a smear on Obama to try and win but now seem happy to bail out an industry (other than banking obviously). It won't happen but if Chrysler, GM and Ford all went tits up it wouldn't half be enterteaining to see the fallout - I'd imagine the European/Japanese car makers would be fucking laughing their tits off.

    Woolworths

Stupid list of things I used to buy at Woolies as a kid: Wembley trophy footballs. Winfield Football boots (£4.49 I think). Airfix model kits. When I've walked past in recent years, I've always got the impression of a Poundland type shop - harsh but I think it illustrates they had no clue as to how to position themselves in the 21st century.
  8. As long as they have the guts to measure the 10 yds correctly - remember when Ginola was booked for counting the steps to a wall at SJP which was 7 paces away? - I think it was Bennet or one of the other corrupt cowards.
  9. Sad but true - I overheard two people in our accounts department who know exactly what has caused this crisis, come out with the cliched "Labour have fucked up the economy and we need the tories to put it right as always" - decent people overall but simple southern twats when it comes to politics.
  10. The gold sale does appear in hindsight to be a huge fuckup - a fair cop - however much like the Iraq war its something I can't see the Tories not having done the same on any kind of principled basis.
  11. The international banking system fucked the economy not the goveenment - though they do deserve a bit of blame for lack of regulation. There may be truth in that from a top-down perspective, but from the bottom up (i.e. us plebs) the government deserves a good deal of blame for letting house prices and personal debt spiral to unsustainable levels. Possibly but I don't see house prices especially as something under government control short of a massive investment in social housing to satisfy demand (something I would like to have seen). I also think any mooted control of personal credit would have been extremely unpopular - however much warranted.

  13. "New" Labour's bolt is shot in my view - as a pretty much left wing person I've been extremely disappointed with what they've done in the last 11 years though up until 6 months ago, I think it took an idiot to claim the country wasn't better off as a whole. I'm not too bothered about the Tories getting in - firstly it will make people realise who've forgotten and who don't know them what a bunch of black-hearted evil bastards they all are and secondly I hope it will force Labour to find some kind of ideals as much as they can in the modern world.

    Judges

^ I hate to say it but getting into the car with that driver takes some blame in my view.

    Judges

Maybe they should reverse the logic - 8 years for guilty and say 12 for a not guilty - I'd have two levels - genuine doubt and taking the piss (see Doctor/terrorists for the latter).

    Judges

Theres still a perception of driving crimes as not really bad - that's the problem. I argued that imo Tony Adams was more of a moral liability for a football club than Joey Barton because repeated drink driving to the level he did it was serial attempted murder. The general acceptance of drink driving and speeding sickens me.
  17. I watched the last hour and a bit of Contact last night. First time around I thought it was pretty good - the bit where they didn't choose her because she wasn't a Theist rang true with me (and had me screaming at the 95% figure again) and I thought the actual conclusion of "its been done that way for biillions of years" was nicely wooly. However last night the bit with the camera really bugged me to the point of incandescent insanity - she even suggested relativity to explain her trip but then conveniently forgot about the recording time just so it could be used to make James Woods look like a twat - what a load of shit.
  18. Two points about the stream: It was 5 minutes behind and I saw the equaliser come up on BBC live text just before Faye missed that open goal that looked at first like it had went in so for two minutes I thought (and I have to say prayed to fuck knows what ) that the BBC had cocked up and we were still winning - then the stream caught up. Secondly did everyone like me want to punch Joe Royale for his absolute bollocks about the slope of the pitch every two minutes?
  19. I finally found the list of subs and he didn't have a midfield player there which I find incredible. Even then when Taylor came on I assumed he'd put Collocini in midfield - christ even Cacapa would have been a better idea than fucking up Beye and Jonas' game. Llambias: "Joe has done well since he came in". Yes if your plan was to appoint a clueless cunt who will takes us down.
  20. Stupidest substitution ever (first one). Still one good result from all his games for Kinnear and he gets a contract.
  21. So you still don't acknowledge the Reid thing which makes it personal rather than racist/islamist? We do still have a lot of racist fans being truthful but things have changed massively over the years and I think the majority find any racism unacceptable. I think the few who did abuse Mido probably did include those who thought it was just a chance to "get away with" their nastier views which they've had to supress but I think the rest were genuinely partaking of terrace humour which can be unpleasant at times within certain boundaries. I don't really care about that because I feel that unpleasantness is a side effect of the passion I feel is being lost from the game.
  22. I'd also add the other obvious point - there were no chants directed at Tuncay.
  23. You're barking up the wrong tree. It would be racist to suggest because he's arabic he's got a bomb. It's not racist to suggest he looks like Richard Reed. Right, very innocent explanation. So only newcastle fans picked up on that resemblance then? You don't see the rest of England singing songs about how he looks like Reed. It's much more likely that your fans are racist and he was being targeted as an Arab and as a Muslim, which is despicable. Are you Spanish? nope, but i am a muslim and am offended that your fans sang songs about a muslim having a bomb. yes i am aware that the spanish are a very racist group of people if that is what you were trying to get at by asking that question. however, it is good that the authorities took action against the people responsible, and i hope this doesn't happen again at SJP or at any other grounds in england. racism in all its forms needs to be tackled agressively throughout europe. Religion isn't a race. Is Arab a race? Song about black man looking like a monkey = racist. Song about arab with a bomb = racist. Mido is Egyptian - not all of them are Arabs or Muslims either for that matter - he whines in his statement about Islam because that's what religious people do - ignore all else and play the privilege card.
