  1. Bob Young said it was to do with those two tilly lamps outside the main entrance....."keeping the lights burning in memory of those who lost their lives working at monkwearmouth pit" etc etc.... It was Finkling who announced it on that Premier Passion show - one of the the local Southwick Charvers who'd they rounded up to provide an audience responded with "It's somebody else's name mate" within milliseconds - fair play to him like. What's also funny is that Benfica's is named after the area of the city and not strictly "light".

The country one is strange as I'd be tempted to say USA but every yank I've met has been the stereotypical very friendly decent person - I'm sure the same would apply to places like Iran or Saudi as well.

Don't have a real problem with any countries but going by Zurich, Switzerland is boring (too nice). Films: Dogma Blade Runner Life of Brian Sin City Gross Pointe Blank
  4. Not doubting his geek credentials but I presume you mean not showing up in the BIOS? - if that's the case then yes, you'd have to involve a pro but if it is in the BIOS but just not in "My Computer" then its fixable.
  5. I tried a couple of the free recovery tools before finding one that worked (ie the trial confirmed it would work if it was purchased) so it might be worth asking what your mate tried.
  6. Define "buggered". I've had HDs which showed as unformatted but were easily recovered with something like GetDataBack = costs a few quid(30ish) but saved my sanity.
  7. I had a "I don't really believe you" discussion with a doctor a few years ago and he actually suggested quite politley that I see another one in the same practice which I did and found that I preferred the second one even though he basically backed up his mate. I've seen the first one since with no issues.
  8. I'm still holding out for how quickly Keane was able to make a difference for the Mackems with only a week or two of the window left - of course they may have had enough numbers in the squad (even if shit) where 3 or 4 players made that difference. The only players I think the delay will cost us is Bassing and Beye - the former would probably have left anyway - and I don't really care about the rest.
  9. I'd rather save all my energy for when we play you guys again, taking the piss over and trying to be clever over the internet is a bit gay like. We are in the premier league for now but whose to say 3,4,5 years down the line we could be back in the CCC. Football is unpredictable and it's normally the "kids" who like to mouth off and start claiming "my dad's bigger than your dad" so to speak. I have Mackem mates I can take this stuff from but I'm sick of reading all this "formed in 1992" shit from people who never went to Roker Park. I'd argue that for every "glory hunter" claimed by Mackems to have started watching us in 95 etc, there are just as many Mackems whose only experience of football is the SOL. I also think its wrong for Mackems to sneer at the notion that our passion deserves reward when they would feel the same way about themselves.
  10. I thought this might happen which is why I held off from booking any flights for Utrecht. It's also nice to read all this "we're bigger than you now" stuff to remind me why I despise the Mackem cunts - I hope theres a few really good kickings awaiting them.
  11. Teenagers wanking twice a week? - what the fucks the matter with kids nowadays?

The first one is on FX on Friday at 10pm after NCIS - I'll watch it and then download if interesting.
  13. I've read a few things about it sort of "serving her right" as it was only cosmetic surgery which I think is harsh - unfortunately stuff like this happens in hospitals no matter what you're in for - by definition they are dangerous places. I thought this death was a shame no matter what. One thing that struck me on a personal note is how "easy" it is to be able to switch off life support compared with not being able to cross the line from a DNR decision for someone who only has a few (distressing) days left in "helping" them as happened with my Mam - I think this illustrates that its a grey area which could be improved.
  14. I've had my personal one for 13 years but I never use it any more as I have had a phone from work for 3 years which has personal usage so everyone has that number. Everyone I know has had the same number since their first mobile.
  15. Simple question - why should we believe anything the slimy fucker says?
  16. Caught a bit of SSN earlier saying that Real Madrid expect a capacity crowd tonight at the unveiling of of Ronaldo - I look forward to the articles referring to 90000 Spanish fuckwits are whatever the phrase is.
  17. The church of guitar is a broad one - nothing to say I can't listen to a breathy-voiced goddess followed directly by a bit of Sabbath.
  18. There are only two - Star and King - both great but you can also get a "best of" which includes a b-side called Thief which is quite simply the most beautiful song ever written. You should also check out Tanya Donelly's solo albums.

  21. ;) One for Brixton - I fucking hate ticket agency "tickets go on sale at 9am Friday" days.
  22. The strange thiing is I've always rationalised my not getting The Office as down to it being too true to life whereas I love Phoenix Nights which certainly has the same "problem". I'd agree that ir would be better if a new series didn't happen.
  23. I'd agree about reccomending Mazzy Star, particularly for Hope Sandoval's voice, not as country mind (though on the odd song i can perhaps see what you mean, the odd one is bluesey as well, but definitely worth a listen! They are usually categorised as "dream pop" which also covers other bands I adore like Belly. However I think Mazzy Star fall into my particular take on country although admittedly with a bluesy touch as well - a niche also occupied in my tastes by early Texas. Of course Hope also occupies a place in my pantheon of Godesses as well.
  24. I often think the "success" of Hall and Shepherd was more by luck than judgement - mainly the appointments of Keegan and Robson. I think there were cock-ups from the start like the first Keegan walkout and continuing through things like the Baggio farce and summer of Bowyer. I don't doubt Shepherd does want us to succeed and would do the business in the short term (if Shearer works out) but I don't think its due to any underlying competence. I think I'd prefer a baggageless option.
  25. Emmylou Harris - the pure bluegrass is a bit too much for me but some of her later stuff is quality. If you want to stretch the definition then two massive favourites of mine are Mazzy Star and Rilo Kiley - not strictly country but tinged with a bit.
