Group declares move for Newcastle United

Jun 9 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

A FAR Eastern group has officially declared an interest in taking over Newcastle United.

The news comes a day after Toon owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale for £100m and invited people to e-mail in with bids.

The organisation, which is based in Singapore, has already said it intends to keep Alan Shearer on as manager if the move is successful.

It has links with existing football businesses, including a current Premier League club, as well as banking, property and legal services.

A high-profile football figure has been recruited to spearhead the takeover attempt for the group, which was established in the 1980s.

I think he had all his assets froze too and he's an international criminal...

yeah but apart, from being from a different part of the world, not having any money and being an international criminal... do you think there's a chance it could be Thaksin Shiniwatra?

'United administrators were today sifting through the responses to their bizarre decision to publish an e-mail address on their website and put the Magpies up for sale online. However, the Chronicle understands that only three or four of those responses can be deemed as feasible or serious options as Toon tycoon Mike Ashley looks to quit St James’s Park ASAP – and he is desperate to get out of the club he snapped up two years ago.'

Would you believe it? :aye:

It's not going to be Thaksin Shiniwatra (sp?) is it?

Now that is something you really don't want to happen B)

Our club has always been a bit of a joke for the media to pick on and we didn't help ourselves with the likes of Swales and Lee fighting each other when we went through our worst period in recent history but Ashley has really taken on the mantle of joke chairman.

The best thing you could do is get a loyal and rich(est) <i.e. a couple of hundred million) accountant in to run your club. Without David Bernstein and John Wardle taking over us in the old Division Three we would have never have returned. It's time for accountants, not football fans or politicans to be in charge to get the house in order otherwise it could be a very messy future for you.

Don't be under any illusions, getting out of the Championship is tougher than it looks.
