What year does it start from?

If we’re talking when the likes of Zeppelin and that were on TOTP, I might give it a bash- if it’s the 80s, I might skip ahead a decade or so

They've done shows from the 60s to the 90s. You'll like the podcast so much that you won't care about when the episode is from though, I reckon. It's properly funny and interesting, with stories about all the acts.

The what else was on telly that night bit is mint as well. Like I say it's just a proper time capsule.

There’s hardly any surviving episodes from the 60s because the BBC wiped loads of them when videotape was so expensive. But in terms of eras, it jumps all over the shop anyway. And much of the brilliance of it is their going into details about how shit performances and videos were. Not to mention how cringey, awful, creepy and unrehearsed the likes of Edmonds and DLT were on there. They also go off on massive tangents about music in general plus old fashion trends, tv, films, etc. They’ll also go through the TV schedules from the day of the TOTP episodes as well as what was in the news. And even going through old copies (including the letters pages and single reviews) from contemporary music magazines like Smash Hits, Melody Maker*, NME, etc. Honestly, it’s great and really funny at times. Taylor Parkes and Neil Kulkarni (RIP) especially imo. The nostalgia is brilliant (it made me realise some of my earliest memories are late 70s TOTP) and it also reminded me of some music from my youth I’d almost forgotten I was ever into. I’ve nearly listened to the whole lot twice through now. I would say if you’re not sure initially then stick with it because I seem to remember the sound being a tad ropey initially. It’s NSFW like so be careful when playing it within earshot of someone who might not be prepared for lines like ‘the bent cunts who aren’t fucking real’.
*everyone bar the presenter worked at Melody Maker at some point as a writer.

Considering the amount of times Jimmy Saville was on TOTP that might be a good thing

Sounds quality. I hope someone does one in 20 years time for my generation.

Next year TOTP will have been off our screens for 20 years so that might prove a little tricky :cuppa:

I'll give it a listen at some point. :good:

Almost finished the first episode and was tempted to not bother at the beginning but have heard enough and smiled, nodded and chortled at a few bits to stick with it. I don't suppose it's on YouTube?

It takes a few until they really hit their stride, worth going on the journey though as they get more confident and grow into the format

It's not on YouTube but the you tube playlist is worth a dive into. Some absolute gold in there
