Here's a better idea, how about, from society at large, some sort of considered and lifelong progression toward us all becoming more rounded human beings with an understanding of our responsibilities to society, big and small, confidence in our capabilities and a belief we can achieve.

Education focused not on pointless outcomes and arbitrary knowledge but focused on nurturing and assisting individuals to become the best people they can be. Give them the confidence to be entrepreneurial, teach them the responsibility of their existence and their ability to shape the world around them and improve society as a whole. Included in this would naturally be parenting, this approach would effectively be humanity parenting itself collectively. Include basic life skills which no longer or have never been part of the curriculum. Cooking, growing your own food, banking, mortgages, how to communicate effectively, basic DIY, etc.

What we have out there in terms of our individual and collective progression is total chaos and an education system not too well designed to spit out workers, rather well advised confident human beings who have the basic skills to get on and believe their destiny is in their own hands.

Aye, but will they know how to propel a rocket in a vacuum?

They can specialise and diversify into whatever they want to. But we should not encourage false idols, or idles.

When my Mrs was in hospital after giving birth the lass opposite asked her what she thought of the name 'Giselle-Tyne.' This is the same lass who when my Mrs asked about the father answered 'na, divn't kna where he is since he deleted himself off facebook.'

It won't be long before the duo are on a seemingly perpetual loop of the Metro with the mother shouting "cumhea, cumhea, stobbit" whilst looking at her phone screen.

Had a woman who wanted to call her little girl Chlamydia once - she thought it was pretty 'and a bit like Chloe'. We had to gently point out that it probably wasn't a good idea.

Just sterilise any bloke wearing tracksuit bottoms to the job centre. It'll save a mountain of paperwork for child licenses.

That sounds like my hubby talking! Exactly!

I've always said (and on here in the past) that some people should not be allowed to have children. There is so much scum around and they are producing more and more, it makes me sick!

Yeah but we would all be upset if Sunderland completely ran out of fans.

No one to slag off.

'ere, them thar janners be 'avin too many kids. ;)

I always think there needs to be better education when it comes to bringing up a child. There seems to be pockets of people who don't truly understand the responsibility that bringing a kid into the world entails. It's really something you should only do if you're prepared to make the necessary sacrifices and be there to make sure you don't raise someone who's just going to grow up to be a waste of potential. Now that it's considered in some circles to be fashionable to have a baby it means these poor kids are having to be babysat by the grandparents because the mams get bored and leave them to it.

Definitely needs to be more family planning to prevent unplanned pregnancy too, it's a serious issue that some young people simply don't understand how necessary contraception is.

Have you had people calling their kid 'Melena' before? We have

(non medical types - melena is dark, tar-like stools resulting from partially digested bleeding from the stomach)

Jumped right in at the end here without reading the rest of the thread but I am very split on this -

1) I know a lass who was absolutely desperate to have a kid and had to really jump through hoops to adopt one. She would without doubt be a fantastic mother but the extremes she had to go through made a mockery of the fact..

..2) an old neighbour of mine who had 4 kids in the 6 years she lived there, all taken off her by social services including one that 'apparently' was taken away just as she moved in because her current boyfriend was accused of sexually abusing her. He suddenly wasn't around any more and the woman attempted suicide. To chose a paedophile over your own daughter :unsure2: but yeah she was an absolutely shit mother who only cared about having sex and didn't have any thought about the 'things' that came from it.

There are definitely people who shouldn't be allowed kids but definitely people who should.

One problem is where do you stop.

1st it's the immature and the irresponsible, then it'll be the fat or the stupid, then what, the short and the ugly?

No. 2 is the reason why No.1 had to jump through so many hoops.
